“Bad timing, babe, it was just bad timing,” is Nicks go to excuse to keep April where he wants her. It also helps keep Kayla in check in the (fucking textbook typical) case of triangulation Nick uses to play them off of eachother while keeping himself centered. What is bad timing?
To get a bit specific, Nick tells April the reason they aren’t together is bad timing. This keeps April hanging by a thread, keeps the option open, thereby creating more circumstances for Kayla to feel insecure, so she has to behave closer to Nicks wishes because the threat of Nick going off with April still appears to be on the table.
Nick kills two birds with one stone. He controls the situation to the best of his ability with a classic triangulation strategy that’s all too common in Axis II personality disorder relationships. Bad timing is Nick exerting what control he can over the two women while playing them off of eachother & turning himself into the prize.
