Balataro nomination for GOTY surprised me, it’s a fine little indie game that achieves what it sets out for, but… seriously? I imagine a lot of people will be seeing balataro for the first time because of this, lol. Also SOTE is my personal pick for GOTY not only because I enjoyed it but because the wailing and gnashing of teeth that will happen if it wins will be simply delectable to observe. Regarding the rest of the GOTY list, I’d be fine with any of them winning besides Astrobot as I don’t want to see yet another game coasting to victory through the pro Sony bias - Nintendo has had dozens upon dozens of titles released in the same genre of greater quality and innovation such that if Astrobot were released on the switch I doubt it would have received one one-hundredth of the critical and commercial reception that it did.

Also for the e-celeb vote I want pekora to win to irritate the “having a heckin' normal one” posturerers/millenial oldtroons (a small demographic distinction give the huge overlap). With that said, Caseoh would be fine given that he’s the only other one I’ve actually ever heard of.

How much money is Sony throwing at this event to make people pretend that the PSN shitshow never happened? They took the game away from everyone in regions that don't have PSN.

Space Marine 2 for Action (will lose to Wukong) and MP (will lose to Tekken or HD2). Why wasn't it nominated for the strongest part of the game, the Art Direction? And why was the Titus VA snubbed for a nomination for Best Performance while that stale as fuck performance in Star Wars Outlaws nominated?

Really appreciate Pal World being the Hogwarts Legacy of this year, where Geoff desperately pretends it doesn't exist. I guess he's afraid that Nintendo will execute him live on stage like what happened to that Japanese Communist Chairman in 1960.

Rebirth is definitely a contender. I dunno how I feel about having DLC as game of the year, but I guess with all the slim pickings for it, eh. It can't be helped. The list doesn't look like a COMPLETE shitshow though. GTA VI will probably get most anticipated given that it's the only one we have any kind of real information about and the basic outline of it is out there. Everything else, eh. I'm more curious to see what's going to be revealed than paying attention to the awards themselves, tbh.

No Half-Life 2. No Palworld. Even Vampire Survivors got DLC this year.

I only know CaseOh in this. Everyone else is a "literally who????". I doubt most people even know the others!

If they were honest, it would be Asmongold, Grummz, Kabrutis, or Stuttering Craig. Reguardless of your opinions on them, they've had a much bigger impact on gaming as whole this year than any of these nobodies.

Because all the others, like the BAFTAs and various game journo GOTYs went down the tubes a decade ago chasing feminism and DEI.

If they really stuck with this mindset, we'd instead have Zenless Zone Zero on the GOTY.

Not even a sign of Space Marine II, the OTHER game that people actually remember this year other than Wukong. They didn't even nominate Pizza Tower last year, so why fucking Balatro this year?

Imo, an award show should be a measure of quality. Not just a AAA popularity contest (as per Stuttering Criag's idea) or just shilling for game journos friends and AAA slop.

So, what we'd expect to see is a mix between high quality indies and popular games. I don't have strong feelings about Space Marine 2, EDF6, or Stella Blade, or other indies like Palworld, Exit 8, Pacific Drive, UFO50, or Star Trucker. There's some obvious favouritism and snubbing going on here. I'm surprised Dragon Age Veilguard and Suicide Squad didn't sweep the awards with how blatant this shit is.

This is why I keep bringing up Palworld. That game was massive, generally well liked, and maintains a healthy player base, but not even a nomination. Instead there's lots of games that are less popular and generally disliked.

The devs had to put out on apology a few months ago for fucking up the balance so much too. It'll probably win though as the hype around it was insane at the start of the year.

It's some kind of strategy card game. I didn't even know it was on mobile. I thought it was a Steam game.

It's a roguelite deck building game based around video poker. If you have no interest in either of those things it's a hard sell, but if you do, it's probably the most masterfully done game of it's kind.
