Honestly, even if some Democratic Senators were absent, there was very likely a gentleman’s agreement in place so that they could be absent. They do this all the time so that Senators can go home for R&R, and it’s close to Thanksgiving. Sometimes even a minority Senator will vote against their party in place of an absent majority Senator just to get something through because the votes are all there, just some people can’t be present for some reason.

The Russians originally sent through a fraction of the troops during the initial incursion (much less than the Ukrainian standing army ... which was the biggest in Europe).
They have now built up their force (and degraded the Ukrainian defense) to the point where they are mount an effective invasion force.
Basically they are outnumbering the Ukranians on virtually every metric (especially used throw weight at the front lines)

This is, and has always been, a proxy war between the Russians and the US.
With the impending change in management means the US, will slowly back down.
Bidens handlers are throwing a spanner in the works as a last hurrah.

These people keep making the same fundamental mistake ever since the 19th century, with the Whigs in Britain and Marx each formulating their own version. They believe they have oracular knowledge, that man can know how the arc of history bends before the scenes have played out.

They are not simply making a low-certainty prediction, or placing a bet. They claim with moral and pseudoscientific certainty that they know how the future will be.

Now, it's the same game any "psychic" or cold-reading charlatan uses. Once in a while, a piece of prediction comes true, and the left gloats that it predicted this glorious future and that the rest of their predictions will come soon. But you're supposed to ignore all the predictions that never come to pass.

Every British Whig of the 19th century and on, every Marxist, every climate hysteric, every social democrat, every LGBT activist, every social justice warrior, every critical race theory proponent, has delusional beliefs that they can predict the future, that their position is not only morally correct but also the inevitable conclusion of human endeavor.

It cannot be overstated how crazy it makes a person to have this level of delusional belief. These are true believers in prophecy, but with God removed entirely from the process. They believe that their own human brains have created irrefutable prophecy.

In any other part of human life, we would consider such a delusion to be quite damning of a person's prospects for a social life or career. But we accept it entirely when it is attached to a leftist political movement. Since it's now been very nearly two centuries of this particular mind rot, people hardly notice it for what it is, or realize quite how batty they'd find this kind of prophetic belief in any other context.

At this point, unironically, the funniest outcome is Trump either dies in office or just when he gets out.
