If you want a serious answer from me: Florida does not have multiple categories of murder. They have first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and manslaughter. What Zimmerman did could fit into the definition of manslaughter, even with Florida's "stand your ground" laws. Those "stand your ground" laws are not an automatic defense and do not automatically dismiss manslaughter charges. The prosecution could have charged him with manslaughter and had a much easier case to win than second-degree murder.

Other posters in Florida with more legal experience than me can correct me on this if I'm wrong.

Personally, I think Zimmerman was a fucking idiot for leaving his house to go confront a stranger. Martin was a fucking idiot for attacking a stranger. When you put two fucking idiots in a violent situation, the result is usually bad. Neither of them ever learned the cardinal rule of violence: the best defense is avoiding the situation entirely.

All that said, the prosecution of Zimmerman was political. He was prosecuted by actors within the state government (and the federal government - the DoJ spent money on that case to support Martin's family) who wanted to make an example of him.

Does that make sense? Or are you not entertained?

Delaying the case like that is unconstitutional and should be blown apart by SCOTUS, you have a right to speedy sentencing too.

New York law is pretty specific about sentencing being without undue delay, and while some delay to rule on motions to dismiss are defensible, four fucking years is not going to be justifiable. Merchan just needs to rip off the bandage, it won't be any less painful if he decides to draw it out.

And prosecutors can argue that self-defense claims are unjustified, you dumbass. That's my point, which you seem intellectually incapable of understanding.

Its hard to argue against it in the circumstances of that incident, and you seem very poorly informed. For example, Zimmerman didn't leave his house to chase Trayon; Zimmerman was on his way home when he called in to the police, and got out of his truck to read the street signs to give his location, and was attacked on the way back to his truck. Further, as you've been told, the affirmative defense of self-defense applies to Manslaughter and a host of other charges.

You don't seem to have a grasp of the facts at hand, the specific Florida statutes, or common law.

You seem kind of retarded. A minor hurricane causes billions in damages and people are still dealing with it months later. They're major events and have lasting negative effects on the national and local economies.

And unlike a hurricane, a nuclear bomb doesn't give you a week of warning to move out of the way. Even a minor tactical strike would kill 100K people instantly, followed by weeks of search and rescue digging survivors out of rubble. Fallout is overstated, at least from modern nukes, but would be a factor and the media would drum up a huge panic over it anyway. Infrastructure damage is significant, and the modern US simply doesn't have the experience to rebuild on that scale fast enough to avoid major supply shortages and housing issues for displaced survivors, who would number in the millions.

Even in a best case scenario, we'd have a full blown depression start the moment the bomb hits, lasting God only knows how long. Nuclear weapons delete a lot of capital from the system all at once, at least pandemics spread the death across months of time and without the permanent infrastructure damage.

The real threat is starving to death, dying of thirst, or freezing without power. Have a gun nearby cause if you're stuck in a place that's blown out, even in a limited terrorist attack I'd say use it before you succumb from those (or the radiation). Thing is, you won't have anyone to tell you if it was just a local small hit or a world wide disaster. Like in The Day After, Jason Robards asks 'is everywhere like this? Paris, Moscow?'

ETA and we sure know FEMA won't help in that case. They're 'risk adverse' as they put it.

I have some crank powered radios and stuff like that, some radiation detection equipment. But I don't really expect those to do much good. The 'best' outcome would be a dirty nuke that sets that stuff off and you have a chance to stay inside or get away.

Then again, we don't know. It kind of sucks there's no more civil defense. After MAD became truly inevitable by the mid 70s they just gave up.
