I'm a bit ashamed to say that this aspect of the narrative went completely over my head. The finale is one of the better ones in the series, but by the time I reached the final boss I was pretty burned out on the whole thing. I'm at the point where Reclusa has just awakened and there was a LOT of cutscenes at this point. I'd pause to do side quests but I finished them all, and the only two challenges left aren't unlocked until later in the story. I kinda want to grind a bit as for most of the game I had Mario and Luigi's levels synchronized but then being split up ruined their balanced EXP, so I think I need to grind using Arc's telescope to equalize them again.I'm a bit ashamed to say that this aspect of the narrative went completely over my head. Okamiden felt like a better 3D Zelda game on the DS than Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.I think there are a lot of first party games that would have been great if they didn't force you to use touch screen controls. Same issue the Wii had, really.

Not because it is good, but because it is junk food.I bought Sonic Superstars because it was on sale and I was looking for something light to play. For all the bluster I see about it being shit online, it's surprisingly solid. Buy it on sale, don't pay the full price for it or anything, but it's a solid 7/10 IMO. I guess a lot of the people complaining about the boss fights being too hard didn't grow up playing Sega Genesis games. The game literally gives you unlimited lives and a checkpoint before every boss. It is designed in the old style of "Fuck you. Get good" though. If you're like me you'll like that.

I grew up with the Genesis games and Superstars has much worse bosses. The Genesis bosses don’t have insta-kill moves that look the exact same as non-insta-kill moves. They don’t give you split-second vulnerability windows. They don’t have several seconds worth of i-frames so that, when you actually do manage to hit a boss multiple times, you only deal one hit because the game arbitrarily decides you’re not allowed to deal any more damage. They don’t have bosses that, even when they are easy, are a long boring slog to get through with a short repetitive loop of bootleg MIDI music. They don’t have kaizo moves that have zero telegraphing so the only way to avoid the attack is if you’ve already fought the boss enough times to memorize when the attack happens. The Super Sonic boss isn’t an RNG fest where you have to pray the game doesn’t decide to go half a minute straight without giving you any rings or chances to attack the boss while it sits in the background.I bought Sonic Superstars because it was on sale and I was looking for something light to play. It's not done in the exact same way, but the early Genesis games had tons of cheap bullshit. For example, when you play Sonic 2 for the first time, there's often no way to anticipate the praying mantises and exploding star fish in Metropolis Zone. Similarly in the Marble Zone in Sonic 1, there are a ton of one hit deaths out of nowhere. In the bonus stages in Sonic 2, you have little hope of anticipating where mines are going to be until you've played through the game a few times. Again in Sonic 2, you have to fight a boss before the last boss, hit the last boss well over 10 times, and you can't get hit once because there are no rings. I had these games as a child.I mean lets be real, if Sonic 1 and 2 didn't send you back to the start after a game over they'd both be beaten in about 90 minutes without really experiencing the fun of learning how to expertly control Sonic.

Everyone knew the button combo to do the level select. The purpose of that game over wasn't to fuck with you, it was to fuck with people renting games. If you owned it you had written down (or memorized) to input up, down, left, right, A, start.
