General Wrestling Discussion

Meanwhile in Levesque-land, CM Punk returns with Paul fucking Heyman for the War Games match at Survivor Series. Wow, it's really difficult to choose what show can I watch this month!
my only criticism of Survior Series so far is that theres only 3 matches, War Games matches are long, but they could easily add Cody/Owens in there or a Midcard title defense in there, I think 5 matches is a good spot for Minor PPVs, as for Punk I think hes a good choice, they aren't going to bring back Lesnar unless they know 100% there was no wrongdoing on his part with the Vince Shitting saga, plus it continues the Punk-Rollins build in the background

Gonna peel through this quickly.

Osprey vs Fletcher was a great match, as expected, it's just such a shame that Fletcher suffers from what most bogan aussies have, and that's a nasally voice. Takeshita and Ricochet just didn't kick out of third gear, and that main event was fucking shit. I will give credit on there being a few fires in the heavyweight scene at the end, with Hangman, Cage and White sniffing around. It was all going somewhat well until the end where Darby decided to do a real like GTA and smash in to a car. Other than that, Full Gear was meh. Mira looked fucking hot tonight as well, holy shit!

Whoever that AJ person is, he speaks highly about the experience working with AEW, which is nice. Mone talks about wanting another belt (fuck please don't...). Tony acting like a homeboy with Private Party was a fucking laugh, considering they both are faggots in real like, and do not have that thug personality. Private Party get asked a legit question about how hot wrestling is and now having children looking up to them as something to achieve within the wrestling enviroment, they plug a Brooklyn event they went to with school children. I've seen the clip, and I get how much this means to them. All wrestlers currently are nurturing the next generation of potenital superstars, and it can happen from all walks of life, so nice question. Quen said he looked up to Lashley and Benjamin when he was growing up, and now he feels like he understands how important that event was to him. The most boring wrestler in pro wrestling with his TNT belt decides to talk at this point. Question about stalled push, and worried that he wasn't gonna be popular, talks about how he pulled that around based on his confidence.

Don Callis family appears. I notice Renee has nice tits, then the bogan voice hits. Living in Australia, I hear that voice and think of people on the dole, asking for a smoko. Don selling at how great The Family is, by stating that Omega is weak in mind and body. Fucking great manager, don't understand why WWE haven't reached back out and taken him in. Everyone is asking Fletcher questions, and Don does the right thing by forcing Takeshita to answer a question. Takeshita speaks a mix of Jap and english, but states the Don Callis family has arrived. Callis thanks Takeshita for talking in english for the retards. FRIENDS ARE FOR MARKS - Don Callis

Hurt Syndicate are here. Bobbo loved the chant of "We hurt people". MVP states the first question was a stupid question to ask (Question was what keeps you motivated). Bobbo states he's won titles in TNA, WWE and then silence as he looks at Khan. Guess he will win belts shortly. MVP takes over and heels out on the whole presser, what a fucking superstar! Someone from the wrestling observer asks a question, and the response from MVP, "Nah, we don't entertain any questions from that nerd. Next question", I fucking popped, Benjamin laughed, and then Khan needed to validate the guy and ruined the spot...... Was a question about if Bobbo wanted to go back to MMA now he is out of WWE... what a fucking waste. MVP is owning this part of the presser. Kate from Fightful asked a question about coming in to a company with so many black champions, and what it meant to challenge a former black champion in Swerve. Bobbo imedietly says he doesn't like that "Black champion" term, it's just champion. THS want to normalise the term, and eliminate the "Black Champion" word. Great to hear from ACTUAL FUCKING PRO WRESTLING SUPERSTARS.

And we have Tony... Renee's tits are on show again, huge pop. AEW will be launching a new PPV platform and focusing on HBO Max. Looking to do more wrestling events around conventions and whatnot... This screams mid 90's WCW. WWEID question comes up, seeing if it will affect AEW. Talks about back in the day bringing in indi wrestlers during the pandemic to keep them working, focusing on Garcia as a success story. Gonna keep an eye on it and see if it will cause issues down the road, but he's taking it as it goes. Question about Costco and reaching out to the Casual Fans, talks about his story on how he got in to wrestling. Tony says G.I Joe and Slaughter got him in to wrestling, and the A-Team when Hulk Hogan was on. Tony is a G.I Joe nerd. Talks about how important Jon Moxley is to the company, Renee is loving that. Starks and Omega question, seeing what their status is and when can we expect them back in AEW. Pumps up Omega, didn't give a shine to Starks though... Talks about how November Rain ratings performed very well, going minute by minute, credits AJ and some other guy for doing a lot of foot work to draw attention to the event as well... Maybe Tony should take that on board... Update on Adam Copeland, there is no update at this stage. (This cunt just needs to answer a question). Tony proceeds to waffle on about shit I lost interest in.

As stated in the spoiler, MVP calling that guy from The Wrestling Observer a nerd was a fucking amazing call. Get fucked, Dave Meltzer.

Reactions: beautiful person

it seems they are trying to do a modern-day Sting/Hogan with Darby and Moxley, they tried a similar thing with The Elite months earlier, they keep restarting shit with new factions, it wouldn't be nearly as dumb if they could just commit to having consistent booking, AEW is slowly becoming 2018/2019 Vince Dementia Booking with Smark appeal on top of it, fucking tragic

Full Gear was fairly good but putting Ospreay v. Fletcher slap bang in the middle of the show was a huge mistake because they sort of lost the crowd for all the matches after it.

The surprise of the night was Mercedes actually deciding to show up for work against Stat. Very enjoyable match.

The main event was about the worst thing. Cassidy gets the shit kicked out of him for 20 minutes and loses before an over-booked shitshow of run-ins happens that would have late stage WCW Vince Russo rolling his eyes.

A US title match between Nakamura and Knight could be added in. And you would think with Trips wanting to showcase the women more, he would pencil in a four-way tag match with the Raw teams for a potential title shot. He could even make it an elimination match to keep with the old Survivor Series concept.

Oh I want to see him try to justify this shit. Especially with the awful year that the Bucks had, I have the theory that Dave inducted them just to mitigate a little the shitshow of a year that these duo of retards had.

Dave usually handwaves it away as "Ummm uhhh umm uhhh yeah ya know? It's up to the voters", he did the same thing when the WON voters rejected the idea of removing Benoit from the HOF, just shows the terrible quality of voters that actually subscribe to his shitty newsletter.

West Texas Rednecks was absolutely amazing. Best part of 1999 WCW
Disagree. Utter waste of Henning and quite frankly, the sort of low rent thing that you'd expect from ECW at their most goofy. At least Three Count were jobbers.

The only reason it's remember is that they made a music video for their song that got spammed on WCW Saturday Night and it was so God awful that it somehow became a meme by Henning stans desperate for him to return to any sort of relevancy...

Stone Cold would have came out, hit 'em with a Stone Cold Stunner, leave in less than 40 seconds and bury this whole angle in one night
THE OLD STONE COLD™️ would give 'em the Lance Storm treatment by coming out with a pillow, laying down on the stage and loudly snoring into the mic.
Brock was 100% right to bury this shitter

I love that Dean was so salty over working with Brock, just for Heyman to essentially say "well Dean's an dumb asshole and got treated like one. Of course he's mad" in his own way, during an Inside The Ropes Q&A :story:

I know I'm being trolled here (not by you, by Meltzer) but I fucking don't understand how people can say that shit with a straight face.

I don't 'get' the Young Bucks. All I see is 'indie-riffic' stuff being played """ironically""" and a bunch of in-jokes/smarky shit.

If you enjoy them, cool. I don't give a fuck. I just don't understand what the argument is for them being in the running as the 'greatest' tagteam.

Rock 'n Roll Express? They basically created the mold which tag team wrestling still relies on.

Road Warriors? Power wrestling, memorable look which has been copied ad nauseum.

The Rockers? Basically what the Bucks are a Xerox of, but they actually brought in a lot of innovation and high-flying to audiences.

The Miracle Violence Connection, simply for having the most kickass name and two guys who could legitimately kill you.

Dudleys/Hardys/E&C? They more or less popularized spectacle/backyard wrestling.

There's the MCMG, Steiners, Hollywood Blondes, British Bulldogs, New Day, Briscoes, or Undertaker and Big Show for different reasons and who actually contributed more as a tag team than the Bucks.
The new age outlaws were literally the most over team of all time and never get mentioned :*(

The new age outlaws were absolutely over but I feel like they never really had memorable moments on their own there's "invading" nitro (shawn and hunter were clearly the more important part of that) and then what else? Throwing mankind and terry funk in a dumpster?

Speaking of Outlaws, could Billy Gunn have done better in his solo run in 99 if he wasn't feuding with The Rock?
The fact that he couldn't recover at all i think sealed his ceiling as a performer jericho went out on his first night with the rock and although he eventually went down the card he managed to keep being super over regardless whereas Billy Gunn just didn't seem to ever connect with the fans

It would ruin my Billy Gunn metaphor if I included them.

But yeah, you could make a case for them as well. I personally did not care for them and just viewed them as a catchphrase (which they were riding off of the coattails of w/ HHH/HBK's 'Suck it') but yeah, they were super popular.

That might be a fun little exercise to do on here. Top 20 tag teams of all time that aren't the Young Bucks.

This is in no particular order, just a list of 25 tag teams better than the Bucks. Criteria: they have to have a unique identity (ie, weren't just 2 schmucks thrown together cos creative had nothing for them to do), had to have teamed for a decent stretch of time (no Rock & Sock or Taker/Big Show, sadly) and/or had to have some form of accomplishments (innovation, titles, mainstream appeal, etc.)

1) Road Warriors / Legion of Doom
2) Rockers
3) Demolition
4) Edge & Christian
5) Tony Atlas & Rocky Johnson
6) Freebirds
7) Rock 'n Roll Express
8) World's Greatest Tag Team
9) Beer Money
10) Dudley Boys
11) Hardy Boys
12) British Bulldogs
13) Hollywood Blondes
14) Motor City Machine Guns
15) The Fabulous Kangaroos
16) Brainbusters
17) New Day
18) The Steiners
19) Los Guerreros
20) The Briscoes
21) Midnight Express
22) Wild Samoans
23) Mega Powers (I dunno if we wanna factor in 80s style booking, but they were together for 2ish years)
24) Outsiders
25) The Shield

Honorable Mentions: Hart Foundation, Eliminators, RVD/Sabu, New Age Outlaws, Harlem Heat, and the Funks.

I also would've liked to have included Michaels/Austin as it is the best of the 'partners who hate each other' gimmick but it didn't fit my criteria.

That was mostly off the top of my head, with only the Kangaroos being ones I had to look up (as they're largely seen as the 'first' to popularise tag team wrestling.)

My impression of them was that they were primarily over due to their intro. Not that they were bad in the ring or anything, but the crowds seemed to really pop for their intro.

It's something I could see late stage dementia Vince doing, though.
the sad thing is, Vince at least has that excuse, Tiny just sees retarded Zoomers using TikTok and think AEW will somehow have crossover appeal with them, they are doing all the wrong things to promote their show, I would reckon most of TikTok doesn't give a fuck about Wrestling, YouTube sure most people catch highlights of RAW and SmackDown on there and WWE is successful in that space, WWE appeals to the median auidence because thats where the money is. your 25-45 year old male is far more likely to care about Wrestling then your average TikTok Cosplay Slut
