A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

No experience with this myself, but I did recently meet a chap not so long ago that used to collect firearms and visit shooting ranges on the regular. He was quite negative and demotivated about the whole experience. UK gun laws have essentially made it a practical and logistical headache that he can't really be bothered with at an advanced age.

Eh. Install a safe, get a letter from your doctor to say you're not a mentalist, 2 character witnesses and a "good reason" why you want firearms (membership of a club or pest control) and away you go with a firearms license, I believe it's just 1 character witness and no good reason for a shotgun certificate.

There are things I would change about our gun laws; it would be nice to be able to swap out a rifle for another one of the same action/calibre without waiting for paperwork, I'd really like pistols back and if that necessitated increased security requirements so be it, hopefully silencers will be going over the counter next year. In terms of making it a headache, I quite like that the average scrote can't buy a shotgun at JD Sports and in my experience gun clubs are good at filtering out 'the wrong sort'. In general when someone unsuitable gains access to legally held firearms in this country it's because the police have fucked up.

I've made some good mates through shooting, met some interesting people and been some interesting places, and it's nice to take part in a sport you can do laid out in the sun.

I have a regrettable habit of impulse buying cheap (and usually nasty) shotguns, because once you have a shotgun certificate you can buy as many as will fit in your safe, I have to stay away from gun shops unless I'm specifically buying something. All my rifles could be used for hunting in a pinch but the .22lr is the only one that isn't a) a bit shit or b) damn heavy.

I held a SGC for a while and it good fun to go shooting with the club, would definitely recommend if you have the funds for it. I packed it in only because I had to move around the country for work and it was a pain to move all that stuff plus get the new force to reissue the cert. Still have a few air rifles tho for some backyard plinking. The country I'll be escaping to next year has a very second amendment view of firearm ownership so I'll likely pick it back up once I've been there a few years.

ETA: Oh, and I think if the Gov't really tries to start WW3 that's a valid reason to head down to that shithole London and finish what Guy Fawkes started.

Well we've passed two-million now. And it's over 5% in multiple consituencies. I welcome Kier Starmer, the farmer harmer, attempting to declare this is fake bots. Nobody will believe him. As a constituency with a Labour MP solely due to redistricting, I'm glad we have over 6% of the electorate signing this petition. Lot of anger out there, very rural constituency that had a bunch of none-tax paying council estates attached to it for no reason.

Current MP is a total simp for the Labour Party and has not once voted differently to the government's line so how can he have our interests at heart? Despite being in his early 30s, he has numerous wealthy donors and like most Labour MPs I've had in different constituencies around the country, they do nothing. They do little local campaigning and accept the Union gravy train that funds the thousands of leaflets they spam.

A mother who kept her baby daughter hidden in a drawer for the first three years of her life has been jailed for seven years and six months for "extreme neglect".
The girl, who prosecutors said had "never known daylight or fresh air", was only discovered when a visitor to their house in Cheshire heard her crying.
To protect the girl, neither she nor members of her family can be identified.
The girl's mother, who admitted four charges of child cruelty at a previous hearing, was sentenced at Chester Crown Court.
Judge Steven Everett said the woman had "starved that little girl of any love, any proper affection, any proper attention, any interaction with others, a proper diet, much-needed medical attention
“An intelligent little girl who is now perhaps slowly coming to life, from what was almost a living death in that room," he added.

Rachel Worthington of the Crown Prosecution Service said the child did not respond to her own name when found, and had been left alone for long periods to "fend for herself" without enough food.
The court was told the girl was severely malnourished, to the point she looked like a seven-month-old baby and not a three-year-old child.
She also had a cleft palate and several other medical issues, which her mother had not sought treatment for.
The offences cover a period from early 2020 to early 2023, when the girl was discovered after a visitor to the home heard a noise upstairs and found her on the bed.
A social worker was called to the house after the discovery, and described her “overwhelming horror” at what she saw when entering the bedroom.
The court was told the child's siblings and the rest of her family did not know she existed and she had no social interaction with others.

I am sadden to report the death of Doctor Bigot

The BBC has turn the much beloved outspoken anti-woke Doctor Ben into a rapist and now the character has been fired from his own practice by the DIE staffers he was forced to hire.

While BBC may think this is sheer genius to use the DIE hires to force the white owner out of his own business I don't think it going to send quite the message the wokies at the BBC want. They even had the butch lesbian be the one to give him the axe, you know the one Doctor Bigot hit on and tried to date because all a dyke needs is a little touch of the old dicking to make her better.

It's kinda sad, I enjoyed Doctor Bigot as a representation of what the average white male must feel like in a world gone insane and his antics made him a hero of the online meme space.

While in prison, Abdallah had taken part in anti-extremism courses designed to tackle the motivations behind his offending. But his probation officer, prison staff and a psychologist still did not support his release, with assessments determining that he posed a “high risk of serious harm to the public”.

Psychologists concluded that he continued to “show levels of engagement with extremism and intent to commit terrorist-related offending”, according to the Parole Board report.

Are you sure it's for no reason. It's not without precedent that districts have been punished for voting the wrong way. There was a council district in Glasgow (I forget the name) which had been getting more affluent and its voters were starting to switch away from Labour. So Glasgow's Labour council moved a whole bunch of immigrants into the area to suppress the house prices and general tone of the neighbourhood, driving it downwards until it voted Labour again through a combination of flight and newly imported voters.
