But having said that, while they did take a bold gamble with Famous House 2.0 but they shot themselves in the foot by going full retard/cranking the volume up to 38 and introducing so many new people so quickly as well as Jobe who had an ambiguous social position.
That’s the thing though, they had no need to take the gamble in the first place. If they simply paced things better and didn’t go all out on day 22 when Alex’s wife was brought on they would have been fine. TTS was incredibly active and would have continued to be so because the idea of an abusive relationship of a drug addled sperg being challenged going forward is inherently entertaining and funny. It’s the perfect combo of neptunian and goranian. Similarly, if Wild Randy was drawn out more it would have been a unique spin on Hassle that the viewers could have fun with through interactive fishtoys.
But once again wiggers blew their load early for no larger benefit. Just space things out and give things time to develop. They had a massive stockpile of ammunition that they used up within one day. They then had to default on stuff they’ve already done before while they wrack their brains for an idea to keep engagement up. Uhhhh, just have Frank hassle people, uhhhh just bring in Fatty and Stein, uhhhh let’s make up some point system to create any semblance of tension, uhhhh let’s do a rehashed challenge from previous seasons, uhhhhh let’s fill the house with a bunch of new people and hope a new social web forms within two days.
Famous House 2.0 would never have worked. You cannot just place a bunch of people in a house with no context other than vague reality TV show and expect things to develop quickly. The idea of Famous House is a slow burn, and they tried to take it at a very fast pace with 2.0.
1.0 was a slow boil and it worked wonderfully. It’s an investment you cannot rush through. It takes time for the Fish to develop relationships, it takes time for conflict to arise, it takes time and effort to pull off successful gaslights like Hulu and Computer, it takes time for the audience to get to know who the Fish are and where their strengths and weaknesses lie. It’s fine doing this at the start of the season, because the world is your oyster at that point. The audience is refreshed and willing to wait a week for things to unfold. Production will also have plenty of ideas and inspiration. But by week 4 the audience has already done their time and Production is pretty exhausted too. We’ve sat through hours and hours of social dynamics and conflict in order to gauge an opinion of the fish and have grown attached through them for five weeks now. To have 10 new people thrown in as contestants at that point is exhausting.
Since it’s so late in the show there’s no time for new social dynamics to develop. It usually takes at minimum 3-4 days for an established social web to form, and with two weeks remaining the audience is expecting fast paced action on par with the wife reveal. The problem is that it takes time to build towards something like that. Resetting back to Famous House couldn’t have worked because you’d be slowing back down to week 1 pace 4 weeks into the show. The audience just isn’t willing to sit through that shit again, and even if they were by the time things start ramping up again the show is over.
They already gambled once. Day 22 was a huge risk and they somehow came out on top with everyone remaining and limitless potential going forward from the new developments that took place. In the end, they sold it for the same hassling we’ve seen for two seasons now. The worst trade deal in the history of trade deals.
