General Wrestling Discussion

As good as Dean was in the ring, he had zero charisma, and was never going to be a draw. Today's IWC fans need to realize that charisma is more important than in-ring work.

Dean Malenko: Hey Sid, I do a great drop toe hold.
Sid Vicious: No Dean, I am going to walk in the ring, powerbomb you, get the 1, 2, 3, and then pick you up and powerbomb you again.

Jade is very limited in the ring but she's got that aura around her that still makes her worth pushing. She's got the best look for a woman wrestler since Chyna (with maybe an exception of roided out Jordynne Grace). She's strong, athletic and has charisma. In-ring shit is the least important aspect of a wrestler. No one but smarks preferred Dean Malenko to Bill Goldberg.
Tell that to the iwc ywc and fag's like gay d from my ass they think riccoshit is a top wrestler in the world

Why not just hire gymnasts?

As a bonus, they're ripped as hell and certainly look like they could kick your ass

Precisely. They didn't do jack shit. I mean I guess it doesn't matter, the Hall of Fame is ultimately a joke anyway; fuckin Rikishi is in it, afterall. It was just so baffling to hear BoD brought up in a GOAT discussion and the way Taker blows their importance out of the water threw me for a loop.

Which is painfully common with rasslers. Hell earlier I saw a clip of Mark Henry crying because he claims he invented the "roll through the crossbody and pick the guy up" spot, and how everyone stole it from him and how special it is to be able to create something. Yeah, sure Mark. You're the first person in the 100+ years of Professional Wrestling to catch a guy in a crossbody and roll through. Out of the hundreds of thousands of matches that have happened in that time, not one single person ever thought of that spot. Nope. It was Mark Henry. Apparently.
To be fair, who *isn't* a mark for themselves? I almost feel like you have to be if you want to get over, you have to be over with yourself first.

I think the Good thing, at least over the past couple years, is that a lot of fans are starting to realize this and push back against Smark Bullshit, Smarks basically had no pushback and bitched on the internet unopposed from like 2013-2022, Triple H being in control of creative resulted in a lot of casuals and previously dissolutioned Attitude Era/Ruthless Agression era fans to come back to wrestling helping with putting Neckbeards in their place

The normal people came back.

That was the perfect storm, though. The territory system had tons of guys who had charisma, could cut promos and were good in-ring because they focused on that (for example, they worked on promos while in the car driving to shows). Now days, since the territories are done, that just isn't the case. Indie guys care more about getting 5 star match ratings from an old autist than they do with being charismatic or being able to cut a good promo. WWE even scripts promos for this very reason (which is a good thing as shown by AEW's promos).

Even in the Attitude Era WWF though, they didn't have that many great in-ring guys. Most of the matches were pretty short, which made it easy to cover up. Can you remember any memorable Godfather match?
I guess it depends on whether we use the sweaty IWC definition of an in-ring master or not. I don't because those people are retarded

I'd argue it goes back even further than that.

Usenet was where it started and it really started picking up momentum in the late 90s/early 2000s with all the various wrestling sites.

Bret Hart and Montreal I think had a lot to do with it, as he was a 'workrate' guy. Then WCW died, which seemed to be validation that the 'non-workrate' guys (Nash, Hogan, etc.) were "bad." Unfortunately, the issue wasn't 'those guys = bad' but rather too much of one thing = 'bad.'

It didn't help that WWE was pushing the narrative that guys like Jericho and the Radicalz were "misused" which helped give some legitimacy to those gripes.

The normal people came back.
Pretty much this. WWE has done a good job at distancing themselves from the trashy label it had and going wide with talent. Triple H courting a bunch of smark darlings with NXT with guys like Danielson, Owens, Zayn, etc. helped as well and gave a balance to workrate and sports entertainment.

If we're talking about Hall of Fame inductees they need to add Jim Johnston and Brooklyn Brawler Steve Lombardi. Johnston made the best themes of all time.
And as for the Brooklyn Brawler, man took 1200 losses in the WWE to help make talent look good. At least every year they should add a behind the scenes creative and one of the legendary jobbers.
