General Wrestling Discussion

Bret is just a grievance collector. You will hear people say he was angry about Hulk no dropping the belt to him, but if you actually watch any of the interviews Bret has given about that period it wasn't even the belt that made Bret upset at Hulk. Listening to Bret say it they were in line at catering and Bret starts pissing in the Hulkster's ear about some war or genocide that was happening in the world at the time and Hulk sorta went, "wow, that's terrible brother. You mind moving so I can get some of that chicken?" Bret suddenly realized that all those times he had been complaining about shit to Hulk, Hulk had simply been patronizing him and letting Bret vent about irrelevant bullshit. Bret started seething with hatred for the Hulkster after that moment and kept that hate with him for years. Because Bret, lol.
I’ll say it once I’ll say it again I genuinely think part of Bret’s shoots are still kayfabe. Wrestling fans want to hear funny stories and drama, Bret gives what the fans want.

I was listening to Steve Austin’s podcast which just had Bret on recently and he wasn’t really shitting on anything beyond the current state of the WWE. Which if I don’t think anyone reading this would find fault in.

Bret is such a whiny bitch.

I would like to like him since I really liked his in-ring style and work, but he's just so damn bitter about everything. He's got every right to be pissed about Owen dying, but he's still whining about Goldberg all these years later. Goldberg apologized multiple times and even finally said, "There's nothing else I can do". Being bitter about Montreal when he was leaving to make another million and a half a year or whatever it was is fucking hysterical. For $2.5 million a year or whatever it was, they can make me get squashed by the corpse of Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

It's not like Bret's health ever recovered though. Oh yeah, Bill said sowwy, does that make up for the permanent damage he received from getting kicked in the head? Not really.

That's not even talking about the fact that he loved wrestling and this pretty much lead to the end of his career prematurely. And you have to remember, this was Bret's peak period earning. Being unable to perform anymore cost him millions of dollars. That's enough money gone to be salty for a lifetime.

Remember how Bret, in his book, talked about how he put the match with Bulldog at summerslam together? How he went over everything move for move with Davey because Davey had just had a week long CRACK BINGE WITH NEIDHART? AND HOW BRET WAS COOKING MORE SMACK FOR DAVEY WHILE GOING OVER THE MATCH?
Yeah, Shitman, some hero and role model you are. Great match though.

That's my contribution to the monthly "actually, fuck Bret" train.

Bill saying sorry is still more than Owen said to Steve Austin after the infamous botched pile driver. At the end of the day they’re doing a dangerous performance art that shaves off years of their lives. I think all things considered Bret looks better than a lot of his colleagues who wrestled for longer and paid the physical toll for it.

Again I’m still a Hitman mark his matches with Shawn is GOAT WWE. That’s why I cope and claim Bret only bitches about it continually because both him and Goldberg generate heat off it. Hardly anyone cares what a giant bore like Kevin Nash has to say but I wind up listening to Bret all the time.

They were all coked out in that era. Funniest Bret story I heard was him doing blow backstage with the Iron Sheik, “Take some Baba!”

Survivor Series was ok. Aside from the WarGames matches, it was pretty mid all around. Didn't like the US Title match at all. Nakamura has a dimes look now, which is great, but I'm not convinced he had to be put over this soon after coming back. LA Knight could have a massive program with Nakamura if given the chance, but I guess the booking committee doesn't see the potential? He'll be back in the championship picture soon enough.

The WHC match was probably the second best match of the night. Gunther is so great at storytelling through his in ring ability. The narrative that he's starting to lose his aura after Crown Jewel is definitely sticking and clearly is bothering our Ring Fuhrer. I think Damien did much better in this match than he did at SummerSlam. The selling of the shoulder injury was pretty spot on as well. I genuinely think he could have won it had Finn not interfered.

Best match of the night for me was the triple threat for the Intercontinental title. Bron is on a different level as it is, but man...he really pushed himself last night. I think having him share the ring with Sheamus and Ludwig was a great choice and all three men came out looking stronger than they did upon entering. 10/10, do it again.

The women's WarGames was...an interesting choice to open the show. I guess part of the reason why I wasn't entirely impressed with Survivor Series this year was the weird pacing. I was honestly thinking the US Title match would open the show and that the women's WarGames would be about halfway through the program. I think if they had changed the order of the card, the match would have felt more important than it ended up being. Rhea getting the pin on Liv felt predictable and I wasn't entirely pleased with anyone's performance. I was glad when it was over.

OG Bloodline vs New Bloodline was dimes all around. My biggest WTF came from the entrance order. Having the Solo Bloodline enter all at once was appropriate, but the OG Bloodline felt so...disassociated from each other. If they were that hard up on separate entrances, why have Jey come out last? Is Roman not the main draw in that faction? I get that Jey has been given a massive push this year, but this wasn't his moment. The entrance order should have been Punk, Sami, Jimmy & Jey, then Roman. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but the entrance section just felt like another Jey Uso push that no one asked for.

As far as that match is concerned, I loved it. The pacing was perfect, the storytelling was highly on point, and the attitude oozing from Roman, Solo, and Punk was so thick you could cut it with a knife. I especially enjoyed Punk rattling the cage of Solo's team and causing them to chimp out. Seeing Jacob stick his head out of the cage like a wild animal was fucking kino. Speaking of Jacob, this guy is going to be a great talent for WWE in the next few years. His presentation as a dangerous animal that will sooner disembowel you than give you the chance to ball your fist for a punch is great. The athleticism is so impressive for a guy his size and I'm glad they aren't overdoing the flippy shit he is prone to do from time to time. Overall, Jacob was the best performer in this match.

While I was fine with the ending, it still leaves me wanting more. Michael Cole said that Roman still does not have possession of the Ula Fala and that Solo, for all intents and purposes, is still the Tribal Chief. So what does Roman have to do to reclaim the throne? Do we see the potential of the Tongas and Jacob turning on Solo? How will the Rock figure into this? I imagine he comes back for the build up to Mania and faces Roman for the Ula Fala and the right to call themselves the real tribal chief. In the meantime, what will Punk do now? Is Heyman going to turn on Roman and become Punk's wiseman? Lots of possibilities here, but I'm definitely looking forward to the future Punk-Reigns feud.

Speaking of Bret, I don't feel bad for him that Hulk dropped the belt to Yokozuna at KOTR instead of him at SummerSlam 93. It made Yoko seem like the monster heel that finally killed Hulkamania in the WWF (until 2002) but nobody remembers that because only Bret's feelings matter for some reason.
Hogan did get some wins back in those European house shows

Woeful numbers for Dynamite this week. The show is predictable as fuck now and people aren't bothering to tune in because it is just a 2 hour long version of Rampage.

Also, Toni Storm is off the December 13th CMLL show with a "torn labia" per an Instagram post where she is randomly chopping at a tree with a dog that she stole from a park. I honestly love her character, it's completely unique for womens wrestling.

Once they let big boom aj have a match i knew it was the beginning of the end. tony's office must look like a chimp pen in a zoo with all the shit he keeps throwing at the wall hoping to stick

536k is just brutal. I wonder how Meltzer will spin this as good

He's going to blame it on the Elite being on hiatus.

Honestly, I feel bad for Omega having to come back during such a down period in the company. The only way they can rehab it is to have him breeze his way through the entirety of the Deathriders and win the title handily in a "I'm Kenny fucking Omega" moment and then have him ringside when either Riho or Mina squashes Marina in a Dynamite main event match.

This shitty angle with Mox and co is terrible but they could potentially build up a couple of people off of it whilst they kill it.

Would dave dying be good.or.bad for.the industry?
It would make the business heal by a long shot because largely thanks to him AEW is the mess that it is and because of him that fucking douchebags like the Young Bucks had some kind of relevance over the years.

Ole Anderson said it best when he confronted him face to face in 2003.
"The difference is that I made it, and you only wish you would."
