KR South Korean president declares emergency martial law, accusing opposition of anti-state activities

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared an “emergency martial law,” Tuesday accusing the country’s opposition of controlling the parliament, sympathizing with North Korea and paralyzing the government with anti-state activities.

Yoon made the announcement during a televised briefing. He declared the step as critical for defending the country’s constitutional order. It wasn’t immediately clear how the steps would affect the country’s governance and democracy.

Yoon since taking office in 2022 had struggled to push his agendas against an opposition-controlled parliament.

Huh. Literally last night I was saying to my husband that I have this funny theory that we're about to have a lot of revolutions because of all the men who can't find any way to build a family. Historically, having a bunch of men in your society who can't get a wife (and therefore have nothing to live and pay taxes and work for, just a life of grinding ahead) is untenable, you end up having to send them to war or otherwise expend your angry young men in order to avoid revolutions.

When I said this to him he said, "well, we'll see, because if you're right, South Korea will be first on the list to erupt, their reproduction rate is rock bottom and the women are all going Lysistrata."

Less than twelve hours later, this. Makes ya thunk.
It's a coup from within the government, though. Aforementioned males with no future are generally content living out their lives in their goon caves, they aren't going to come out on the streets to overthrow the government.
I'm not sure how useful it is to draw historical parallels here, the context is rather different. Modern world gives desperate men plenty of opportunities to drown their discontent in ways that don't involve overthrowing their government or going to war.

Hopefully he can do what Diem sadly failed to do in Vietnam in Korea: Catholicize and reunite the nation.
It would help if the Vatican would canonize Kim Jong-Il. He has the right resume.

THE START
Although analysts say Kim was born in the Soviet Union, his media says he was born at a secret revolutionary camp on Mount Paektu, a northern mountain on the Korean peninsula that many Koreans considered sacred. A double rainbow appeared over the mountain when he was born.

NATURE BENDS IN HIS GREATNESS
When Kim Jong-il officially took control of the state, pear and apricot trees mysteriously and spontaneously came into bloom across the country attracting butterflies and bees. Fisherman caught a rare white sea cucumber, which led Koreans to say "Kim Jong-il is indeed the greatest of great men produced by heaven."
NO WEATHERMAN COULD HAVE FORESEEN THIS
For previous birthdays, North Korean media reported on the "Wonders of the February holiday" that included sunrises so brilliant that frost exploded with the sound of firecrackers, rainbows appeared and frozen lakes thawed with such a noise that it caused mountains to shake.

This year, skies over Kim Jong-il peak, "unfolded (with) such mysterious ecstasy" that a halo was seen around a moon so bright it illuminated the secret guerrilla camp where Kim was born with the brilliant light of day.
ACCOMPLISHED YOUNG MAN
According to his official biography, Kim helped develop North Korea's TV broadcasting industry. He repaired auto engines. He found ways for farmers and steel workers to produce goods more efficiently and avoid back-breaking labor.

He wrote a thesis on Korean history. He penned operas and plays -- all before turning 23.
THE ARTIST
Kim was responsible for placing museums in all corners of the country. He developed an actors' studio. In 1967, he brought the feature film "Five Guerrilla Brothers" to the screen. That movie was followed by "The Sea of Blood" and other movies, including several local award-winning films.
After building a strong North Korean film industry, Kim created a new revolutionary opera and adapted some of his films into operas. Then he developed a new type of literature.

PILOT, GOLFER AND GOOD WITH PHONE NUMBERS
Kim, who avoids traveling on airplanes for his rare trips overseas, did learn to be a crack fighter pilot.
He goes through intensive memory training every day and can remember the phone numbers of workers, lines of computer code and the personal biographies of cadres.
And legend has it that the first time Kim played golf, he shot 11 holes-in-one and carded a score about 20 strokes lower than the best round ever for a professional event over 18 holes.

far-left feminist cultists
This is a retarded meme. Everyone was shocked by this. Her own party ousted her. Absolutely nobody was "team secret witch coven" when that news broke. This would be the equivalent of saying that the Republican party is "team gay bathroom sex" because of Larry Craig. Again, you're doing the American thing where you ascribe "sides" to a conflict you don't understand.
So is he less popular than the true rightful ruler of Korea, Kim?
Everyone is less popular than Kim. Need I remind you that Kim was recently reelected with over 99% of the vote with a voter turnout of nearly 100%?
It's a very big ask to tell people to trust the media to accurately project public opinion.
Donald Trump as well has approval rating in the low 20s according to the media, until it's election day and he sweeps the election
Again, you're attributing American phenomena to decidedly not American events.
His policies are fine, long live King Yoon

Foreign Policy:
  • North Korea: Hardline approach, supports sanctions, open to preemptive defense if needed.
  • U.S.: Strengthen military alliance, more joint exercises, and defense cooperation.
  • China: Aims for mutual respect but less conciliatory.
  • Japan: Works to improve relations.
Domestic Policy:
  • Economy: Market-led reforms, deregulation, tax cuts on capital gains.
  • Gender: Opposes gender equality ministry, criticized for anti-feminist views.
  • Education/Health: Struggles with reforms, plans to increase medical student intake.
  • Housing: Plans for millions of new homes.
  • Proposes more government oversight of police.
Yes his party's mission statement reads very nicely. His actual administration is comically corrupt.
