UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson fatally shot outside Hilton hotel in Midtown in targeted attack: cops - Just Part and Parcel of visiting a Big City

They disgust me more than CEOs for alcohol, or tobacco, or defense companies. At least you know what those people sell - it says it on the tin. Healthcare companies in the US suck people dry and do next to nothing for them.
Agreed. People are going to smoke, drink, and shoot one another until the sun stops shining. You buy a drink, you've got a drink; the distillery isn't going to ring you up and tell you that they're not going to be filling that glass after throwing a thousand-page manual at you. Insurance is an absolute scam. You buy into it, hope to never have to use it, and the one time you need it they'll try and find every possible way to weasel out of their end of the agreement.

Don't want it, don't buy it? Well the US government at the very least has demonstrated it's willing to penalize you out the ass for 'choosing' not to purchase a product you didn't ask for (read: be too poor to afford it, then be penalized for being too poor).

Didn't end up using that expensive insurance? Sorry, no refunds.

Still, could be possible he have an accomplice who wait for him in a gateway car somewhere once he drop his gateway bike?
I think it's more likely he has a change of clothes in his backpack.

They said he ran then took the bike to central park and disappeared.

I'd he swapped the hoodie for a different coat and hat he could come out looking like literally anyone.

Assuming he didn't have a phone with him he's going to be pretty hard to identify based on just this.

The gun could also be a B&T VP9 or Station Six, a very close relative of the Welrod pistol. This would sort of explain the "jamming" and his seemingly calm reaction to it, since the gun is bolt action.
I'm pretty sure the B&T VP9 IS a Welrod. made for... Veterinary use (the "V" in "VP9").

Because B&T only makes a handfull of them, they're like $5k if you want one, for the novelty, or for its actual use of putting down animals.

I bet the pistol was a PSA Dagger or Polymer 80 with a homemade can, with no booster.

Exactly. You know what you get with alcohol and tobacco. We know that defense companies sell weapons. Insurance companies are supposed to help you in your hour of need and, 9 times out of 10, they take your money and then figure out every way to screw you. Absolute fucking scumbags.

I think the funny part is that this stone-cold assassin made his getaway on one of these gay things.

Don't these things have location tracking?

Maybe people should have more value for human life but that's a pretty bold ask nowadays I guess.
Maybe the CEO would still be standing if he had heeded such a suggestion. United in particular appears to have done some really shady shit.
Sure, it's a shame somebody had to die, but it's very clear that whatever mechanisms are in place to actually punish the people who have made American healthcare into the absolute mess it is are lacking or outright broken. Something needed to be done to remind healthcare execs that they are not beyond reproach. What's the alternative? The average individual can't engage in endless lawfare, but these companies sure as hell can.

What I want to know is, who benefits from his death? I could see this being a crime of passion, but it could also be a “he knew too much” type of deal. I’m willing to accept it could be somewhere in the middle.
My money is on a passion crime. Guy had a close relative or friend dicked over by the insurance company. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best one. I'm going through some stupid right now. Family member needs oral surgery. Insurance says they will cover the procedure but not the anesthesia.

Guess they expect someone to just raw dog orthodontic surgery. Will they pay for the leather straps to hold the patient down at lease?

Welrods are not common handguns, and are usually chambered in .32ACP. CNN said 9mm casings were found at the scene.

Edit: Ted Kaczynski knew this, that's why he made himself a pipe gun out of car parts and other junk. He never fired it, but that was his "assassination gun" :story:

Actually it was named "Pistol for Homicide" which is even funnier.

The funny AK man built one to test it out.
