Original Red and Black Power Ranger talk about why they left the show

I'm not the most sympathetic person when it comes to people complaining about labor rights. But what happened to the original Power Ranger team was borderline criminal. I'm sure most people have heard the snippets of how they were making very low salaries but a new video just dropped from the black and red ranger stars themselves filling in a few other details.

These guys deserved exponentially more than they got. They were the heroes of little kids all over the world. I can't even put into words how popular MMPR was after our iteration of the sentai show dropped here in America. The Megazord was one of the coolest things us kids had ever seen

Saban was a villain to such a degree its genuinely baffling. It was literal saturday morning cartoon levels. The show makes a billion dollars and he's still pinching individual pennies on critical safety and his stars in a show thats already half made at the very start. Money of such insignificant amounts to him and not just that. Its to the point where probably he's actually sacrificing untold fortunes on the table just to...I don't know...engage in some sort of weird personal sadism against his employees? At least Weinstein paid well. Of course he's very generous with the political donations to Dems.

I wonder if Thuy enjoyed the recognition she got with the show. Totally understandable why she left. Seemed like they all went through shit, with David getting bullied, the low pay, really I imagine the only one who seemed to make it unscathed was Amy Jo Johnson.

I learned more about Saban being awful thanks to Phelan and Allison's videos. He's a greedy monster. Sucks also that even X-Men could not escape his grasp. (Iirc in one episode the Rangers are spoofed and Saban Studios getting damaged. I think it was the Mojo episode)

He looks kinda like DSP

He looks like an ordinary formerly fit fat guy who aside from his fat appears to be relatively robust.

DSP has a decidedly unordinary skinny fat physique that is somehow hulking and emaciated at the same time with jet black balding head and a patchy beard. With a vampirically white pallor and the carriage of a man who doesn't move the entire day unless he has to.

They're both superficially fat white guys with beards but thats where the similarity ends.

Bless them for talking about their experiences. People talk shit about 4KIDS when Saban should've been focused on as much if not more, even nowadays since they're still around. At least the 4KIDS actors hardly complained about pay and the like.

And yet despite the horror show behind the scenes, the Saban dubs are some of my favorite old-school dubs around. Everyone made do with the hands they were dealt and put entertainment first because that's what they were being paid to do. A lot of them have sadly faded into obscurity, and it really feels like, outside of Power Rangers, no one really cares to check up on where everyone who didn't break into the entertainment business has disappeared to.

EDIT: Yoooooo what happened to Walter's middle finger?????

I can't remember the specifics but he lost it when he was a young kid. I think they just hid it really well on the show/nobody ever really paid attention to it as kids. Easy to do when a lot of it can be padded out with the japanese footage or stunt doubles

Walter's still as based as he was back in the day (probably the best thing about that recent special if I'm being honest) and it's nice to see Austin doing something that isn't shilling merch with Hitler quotes on them. I get what he was going for, but jeez.

That's weak shit. Reiko Chiba who played the pink ranger in the original Japanese show is an active representative for an ultranationalist organization known for Hitler apologia. She still goes to conventions in America too, no fucks given.

Austin's thing wasn't so much that he liked Hitler, it was that he was selling merch with quotes from famous leaders and Hilter happened to be one of them. It's a non issue either way, I don't really give a shit if an actor wants to make money.
