The myth that Nick "came from money" is frustratingly persistent. He didn't. While his grandfather and his father both had good jobs, his grandparents only came into serious money quite late in their lives.I will never come to terms this dude could be anything that he wanted, first via family wealth - if he was not a waste of skin, he would´ve access to the money by engaging in whatever path the family would´ve laid out for him, like that chem degree - but whatever, he went for creative writing and strip mall LOLyer; then you stumble on your dick and land cock first in a bunch of wine moms interested on hot goss about a celebrity trial and a bunch of dead end nerds sadge because their homosexual voice actor is a little handsy. You get a 7 figures contract to basically repeat yourself for a couple of days a week but even that is too much for you to not fuck up.
What a shister...
After that point, Nick clearly had more options and Nick has told us that his grandfather was pleased when Nick chose to study law. It's not unreasonable to assume that Nick received financial help from parents, grandparents, or both during the time he was studying and he's said enough for us to know that some degree of financial assistance continued beyond that (apparently with conditions/expectations).
Nick's certainly not the first person to get a law degree and find that he hates practising law, and his temperament seems very ill-suited to the bread and butter work which pays the bills for the vast majority of lawyers. And he doesn't have the drive or experience to become a high profile defence lawyer.
Where he totally fucked up, though, was finding a niche which was bringing him in a damned good income and then throwing that away because he'd rather talk about other things than legal cases. While his income would have inevitably dropped as the number of legal streamers increased, a few of whom are far more interesting than Nick, he could have still continued to make solid money as a legal commentator.
