I just came back from my Mom’s house I set up the AirPods Pro 2 for her and had her do the hearing test. The test said she had moderate hearing losing in her right ear. She says it’s a marked improvement and was happy to now have the tv at a lower volume.

Major Win for Apple to do this and innovate on the hearing aid market. I only spent $180 on the AirPods 2. She wasn’t looking to spend $1600 when her hearing wasn’t that bad. This is one of the best things Apple has done in years. For Kiwis with senior citizens I recommend checking it out.

I don't want to switch to Apple...
Users must have mild to moderate hearing loss in order to enable the hearing aid feature, though that diagnosis doesn’t have to come directly from the app. They will also be able to upload results from a third-party test. Hearing Aid functionality will not be enabled for those with no loss or for anyone whose hearing is labeled severe or profound.
oh it won't work for me anyways ok.

The Apple TV 4k does 4k60Hz, the cheaper TV sticks it competes against are limited to 4k30Hz. Lowering themselves to the same level would make it appear that Apple TV isn't a higher quality product than the competitors, even though in this case it genuinely is. That quality doesn't make any difference for streaming things like Netflix, where the stream is compressed into looking like shit no matter what device it's displayed on, but iTunes does have some 4k60 content that would suffer.

I use my Apple TV as a Jellyfin client, and it being able to do 4k60 is actually kind of important to me. The iPhone integration is also rather nice, I rarely use the Apple TV remote because the iPhone controller is just one swipe and a tap away.

I doubt that.

Output resolution supported2160p, 1080p and 720p up to 60 fps

4K60 is not hard to decode in theory (implementations vary) and they could probably make a sub-$60 8K stick if they felt like it. The HDMI version's bandwidth can affect quality but they are shipping with HDMI 2.1 in the latest one.

Amazon Fire TV is likely worse for applications like Jellyfin, simply from being slower and having less storage which further affects performance.

Oh yeah no the Android TV app for jellyfin is shit, and it's shit on Google TV and on Fire TV. I'd consider an Apple TV one that's cheap, but I'd almost rather have a custom solution that uses the web app and makes it keyboard controllable.

I really need to get a macbook with more ram (2020 M1 13in MBP).

Yeah, if only I could do it on my own.
Technically I could, but I'm not gonna pay someone more than the laptop is worth to do so.
If you are paying someone to do it then you arent doing it, so no, you cant. Regardless your utilization doesnt seem high enough to justify an upgrade. Your system is going to use all the ram it can, that's how modern operating systems work and have worked for like the last 15 years

Can’t do that on any windows ultrabook either, and on those you’d struggle to run anything with less than 16GB considering how trash your OS is, so I’m not sure your jab hits quite as well as you thought it did.
At least I have the option of choosing a model of laptop that can be upgraded, and even put a real OS like Mint on it.

I have a Apple TV 4K and hate the branding since Apple TV+ became a thing. Because 100% of people are confused when they asked what streaming box i use, and i tell them Apple TV.

Apple is the most faggotish double-faced company there is, more faggotish than Microsoft and even Google. It is the only company that agreed to suck some dick and deleted about a hundred VPN services from Russian appstore. By the way, they do not even have a Russian office like Google used to have. In my personal and very MATI opinion, one should be extremly retarded to use anything made my Apple. At least if you live in some shithole which is not US. Apple will betray you, kiwi. Always.

Don’t forget that Apple will lecture you on the environment and bring on some fat negress as Mother Nature. All while soddering memory and storage on their motherboards. And don’t get me started on some of the poor design choices that Apple has made to help push sales of new laptops.

Meanwhile they make their shit deliberately obsolete so that people are forced to buy new items repeatedly, even though it squanders enormous amounts of rare earth minerals to do so, and this is one of the most toxic and environmentally destructive forms of mining in existence.

It turns the areas it's done in into literal hellscapes.
So it's rich that these cocksuckers have the gall to be holier-than-thou about anything environmental.

Fuck that nigga Tim Cook.

Ok Dafuk am I supposed to do with this mid-2010 white polycarbonate MacBook with a Core 2 Duo processor?
The same thing you'd do with any other laptop from that year with a C2D: Install Linux on it.

Honestly, Intel Macs are not interesting at all. The reason why actual tech people (instead of posers) became interested in Macs again is because of Apple Silicon and the generally poor state of Windows in the 2020s.

Haha I love how this thread has become a pro-Apple kumbaya love in. For all their faults, I’d rather stick with a manufacturer who tells the FBI to fuck off when they demand they unlock a terrorists phone.
As a guy who likes laptops, they won me over by being the only company to produce a new laptop worth a damn. The pricing is steep, especially since you can't really upgrade it so you need to overspec if you want to use it for a long time, but it feels like a completely different tier of quality compared to the 2023 Thinkpad my work just issued me.

I'm more just sad at the state of laptops than I am particularly enthused with Apple.

What is it that causes some people to say that apple products(macbook and imac mainly) are better for creative endeavors? I mean like video editing, recording and writing songs, writing books and screenplays, etc. I know a couple of creative types that swear by them. Is there anything to their assertions? I know very little about Apple computers and have always just used windows, but I'm not asking the question in bad faith.
A lot of creative software that runs on both MacOS and Windows is made primarily on MacOS first and then ported to Windows. A good example is Scrivener (a creative-writing/notetaking application) which has a Windows version but it's several years behind in features compared to the Mac/iOS version. This is more a side-effect of so much of the 'creative class' owning and using Macs so MacOS is top of the totem pole when it comes to focus from these software companies. Also if there's one thing Apple gets right, it's heavy autism on desktop rendering and color accuracy - if you buy a super whizbang high-end monitor with calibrated colors, MacOS more than likely already has the color profile preloaded and will switch to it when you connect it. It'll also respect it throughout the entire desktop rather than the weird piecemeal Windows experience where some parts respect color settings and others don't etc.

There's also the fact that M-series hardware is very good. It's very energy efficient and the wide memory bus makes it extremely good at utilizing the unified memory setup they've got. Getting away from x86 has allowed Apple to make some architectural decisions that are going to be painful (if not impossible) for x86 to match.

Earlier in this thread I talked about how Apple got this current audience but it mostly comes down to sweet deals Apple offers educational institutions as well as an extremely robust collection of built-in applications. You can do okay video editing and better-than-okay music production on a Mac more-or-less out of the box. You also get Apple equivalents to word, powerpoint, excel etc. (nowhere as good for professional use but sufficient for casual use) and pretty soon Apple is going to own a photoshop competitor that will likely become either extremely cheap on MacOS or possibly outright free. There's really nothing like it anywhere else.

And if you're a burger, there's a 50/50 chance you're probably already used to Macs because they're common in US public school systems. I went to a school in bumfuck nowhere in one of the poorest counties in the US and everything was Apple. Why? Because Apple was basically donating shit at the prices they charge for public schools especially when you factor in the long-term support contract.

The battery on my 13 went to shit end decided to upgrade. Thought about buying a Galaxy or Pixel. But with the courts looking to break up Google and that every Android phone i’ve used since the Galaxy S1 always seem to go to shit a year after use, i decided on Iphone 16 Pro Max. Really like it compared to my 13.

And this is coming from someone who thinks Apple as a brand is overrated by normies. And i hate Google more than Apple.

I purchased a crap Android, made it last for at least half a decade before getting a new one.

I remember when I was a kid, for the longest time, I never saw a Mac computer inside anyone's home, only at libraries and schools

Everyone I knew used Windows.
