Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

Something that has sent me into unreasonable, indescribable rage is when I leave a comment in response and a while later suddenly I get notifications of replies to a comment, not any to my comment, but just comments posted in a comment thread and I come to see my comment is deleted but this fucking kiked out app still gives me notifications of other people's comments.

Whoever is responsible for this should be caught and publicly lynched and flayed alive, in real life, not in minecraft.
I have a feeling Susan Wojchickikibingbongbang whatever her last name was, was responsible for this as well. I like to imagine how she talks when talking about newspeaks, allowed words, and censorships in general. She must've sounded unhinged during those times.

As I said before, Susan will not be remembered fondly

I wonder if Youtube has changed their algorithm again. I have noticed that they are pushing "Russia bad" and tranny shit in my recommendations recently.

You are lucky, I don't get any notification about the replies left to my comments anymore.

I hadn't updated the YouTube app since like March or April, and now it forces me to have my subscription feed autoplay as I'm looking through it. There's no option to turn it off anymore in the options.

I'm irate. I might actually finally switch to Rumble...

Maybe. But I have received pro-Russian retardation from day one, even when I make it explicitly clear that I am not interested. YouTube recommendations are bullshit, and always have been. They are probably rage-baiting or just being stinky jeets. Most likely both.

It probably isn't just me but YouTube has been getting infuriatingly sluggish lately. A new tab takes up to 10 or so seconds to load, regardless if I'm on my home PC with latest hardware or on a work PC running a 15 year old Celeron with 2 gigs of RAM. The player itself is no better with often hang-ups where it's unresponsive for several seconds until it catches up to what you wanted it to do. I know they tried some throttling fuckery on Firefox before, but I didn't experience anything like that until fairly recently, my only gripe being that even though I use uBlock Origin their anti-adblock blackscreen still shows up every few days, which I've been dealing with by deleting my YT cache and starting the sisyphean cat and mouse game all over again...
It's all so tiresome.

Also y2mate are still being faggots it seems. You can only download 720p and below without downloading their retarded bloatware now.
For fuck's sake.

We need someone who is not a retard or a fucking shill to make something like y2mate so we can continue downloading youtube videos without paying a fucking dime. There's so few options for downloading age restricted videos now it's fucking annoying. Even stupider when said video is restricted for essentially no reason or because someone in the video said one word the youtube bots didn't like.

Why aren't you using yt-dlp?

I've had good luck using cobalt. Outputs in 1080p.

Because I am a retard and lazy. I guess I'll have to look into it now.
It isn't as hard as it may seem to use. There are a lot of GUI frontends for it so you don't have to open a command prompt each time, but really it's not that hard to set up a configuration file (which is just a list of the various options the program can run with), experiment with that until you actually get everything just right of course, and from then on you're just running the program against URLs you want to download and running the 'yt-dlp -U' command to update if it gives up the ghost.

For what it's worth, the specific option that you'll need to use to let you download age-restricted videos looks something like this, to grab your cookies from a browser:
Code:
--cookies-from-browser chrome
Swapping 'chrome' for 'edge', 'firefox' or whatever else you log into the Goolag with.

If you have multiple browser profiles and you need to specify which one to use, you'd use something like this to specify the specific profile:
Code:
--cookies-from-browser firefox:3xlow4or.testing
If you use Firefox and the fantastic 'containers' feature it has for keeping cookies from different sites separate, you can pick one specific container:
Code:
--cookies-from-browser firefox::personalgoogle
or
Code:
--cookies-from-browser "firefox:zerh44jk.default-esr::Google Account"
if you have multiple profiles AND use Firefox containers.

I would rather Google have less information to track me, so I don't use this particular option when downloading most things, only if I need it for some reason.

Probably do not want to go downloading massive numbers of videos if you are tying them to your personal Google account, there have been reports of rate limiting globally (ie, on every device or browser you have, not just the PC used for yt-dlp downloading). My assumption is that the people reporting this were either insanely unlucky or downloading entire channels. I personally have a separate 'age-gated' pipeline which passes a set of cookies so as not to increase that risk.

I've heard the same. Haven't run into it personally despite downloading 141 videos totaling 23 GB one day. I'm not sure how many GBs you need to download before getting limited, but it must be a relatively high number.

Does anybody knows further about autodeletion of comments in the platform? Sometimes i post comments that somehow disapeared/got deleted and i've read about others experiencing this as well
It's some sort of algorithm that looks for keywords and phrases, but it's very bad at understanding full comments. I've had spicy comments get auto-deleted, but I've also had completely innocuous comments get auto-deleted as well. Their censorship algo is very buggy.

You'll also get comments that don't get auto-deleted, but do get demoted and hidden in the "top comments" sorting view. How that works is a real mystery to me, honestly. I've had spicy comments be visible in this view, but again, some innocuous comments get hidden for some reason. The hidden comments in "top comments" sorting will be visible in "newest first" sorting. Seemingly no rhyme or reason to how and why certain comments get demoted.

I assume YouTube keeps a permanent record of how many comments you've had deleted either automatically or via your comments being reported by someone and then removed manually. I wouldn't be surprised if your account gets flagged once you reach a certain threshold. How that affects the censorship algo is anyone's guess.

Ok, boomer. Enjoy playing King's Quest while I'm out here playing ultra modded Skyrim.

I apologize for the shitposts but yt-dlp should have a GUI. It's been thirty years since I last used a CLUI for more than five minutes.
I'm very late to this, but stop being a lazy faggot.

Also, i really like how when a pajeet takes yt, I get a shit ton of crypto scam ads now.

Very cool!

Based solely off my personal experience- that is 100% the case.

Fun fact- it appears that you can reset this, and be able to annoy other commenters again, by deleting your YouTube profile.
After I exported all my YT subs and imported them into FreeTube and nuked my YouTube profile, I created a new profile and now every single one of my comments isn't immediately deleted.
