Unlike SSI, an American citizen can take their SSDI check abroad and live in another country. SSDI is considered an "earned" disability check, not a charitable check like SSI.

Mexico and Panama officially have low requirements, but both routinely reject applicants without much higher incomes than what is supposedly "required". (Panama has a big influx of American retirees, so they're being picky to slow down the increase in their cost of living).

Probably the lowest pension income requirement without huge cash assets is Indonesia, but they still require at least 1500/mo USD as of now. Malaysia is a better option in that region, but their visa is based on assets and requires 100k+. (Kuala Lumpur is a world class city on par with Shanghai or Bangkok).

The food prices (and quantities) alone would make Pissa burst blood vessels. Or adjusting to metric. Or finding places to buy clothes because she’d be too fat for most clothing stores. “Free” healthcare is for citizens only, she’d have to pay more out of pocket for everything even if she didn’t go private to speed things up. And even if she ended up in a place like the Nordics where most people speak some degree of English, she’d still have to learn enough broken X to get by in daily life. Other countries expect you to integrate to some level because you live there now, dummy.

That's why I laugh when people rage about immigration policy in the US - they've obviously never taken a gander as to what the requirements are to attain citizenship in, say, Canada. or Mexico. Or Britain. Or France. Or anywhere else in the history of ever and realized just how fucking /lax/ the US citizenship requirements are compared to some of the other developed nations around.

It’s easier to be tough on immigration when your “home is girt by sea”.
