What sucks about this is it might mean we're further off from Steam Deck 2 than I thought. I was hoping 2025, but now even 2026 seems unlikely because they wouldn't want to cannibalize their own sales.
Valve has reiterated multiple times that they won't make a Steam Deck 2 any time soon. They want a true generational leap in performance while keeping the low wattage requirements that defines the handheld. So there will be nothing on that front until technology develops enough to warrant a follow up. I think it is a sound strategy as it guaranties the viability of the current Deck so consumers can purchase it now without worrying the device will become redundant in a short period of time. I don't expect a follow up to the Deck until at least the 5 year anniversary, so 2027 might be a more realistic expectation.
