Sony hate thread

What sucks about this is it might mean we're further off from Steam Deck 2 than I thought. I was hoping 2025, but now even 2026 seems unlikely because they wouldn't want to cannibalize their own sales.

Valve has reiterated multiple times that they won't make a Steam Deck 2 any time soon. They want a true generational leap in performance while keeping the low wattage requirements that defines the handheld. So there will be nothing on that front until technology develops enough to warrant a follow up. I think it is a sound strategy as it guaranties the viability of the current Deck so consumers can purchase it now without worrying the device will become redundant in a short period of time. I don't expect a follow up to the Deck until at least the 5 year anniversary, so 2027 might be a more realistic expectation.

We are here where we are at, because the men and women you put in charge took us here. They sought profit through gimmickry and usury. They had no clue of what the entertainment medium they were running was like, thus they copied what "seemingly" had worked for the record industry (lol) or the movie industry (lmao). If you really don't understand these things, then truly you are undeserving of the inflated over-salary you get paid as an industry executive.
just history repeating itself

The PS5 doesn't have a web browser. £700 for a fucking console that you can't browse the web on (without using a back-door hack which is limited as fuck). What is going on?
sony is paranoid as fuck someone breaking out of their walled garden (rightfully so because it's what makes them the money), and browsers are a notorious exploit vector since they're FUCKHUEG software abominations you couldn't properly harden if you tried, and if you do suddenly half the sites on the internet wouldn't work anymore. so might as well not have a browser all.

Sony will never make something like the vita or psp again, they can't support two hardwares with games, hell their support for PS5 has been very week so far, so can't even support the 1 right now.

If I had to guess however, will come out around the PS6, and will be pretty much a cutdown portable PS6 and cost around the same as a basic PS6. Is a way for people to buy two bits of Sony hardware, rather than just the one, and will help them in markets like Japan.

Unsure if they could make a portable PS5 system at this point, so if something is to come out before the PS6. I would imagine it will be a Steam Deck like device, which can run PC games, but with a custom OS and will use a PSN store front, maybe also will have emulation for PS1/2/PSP games. Much cheaper and easier solution than to try and cut down a ps4 or ps5 after the fact into a portable console, but will lack a lot of the first party games and people will still have to wait for first party ports. Also knowing Sony, if they do this, doubt it will run Steam.
We already have a portable gaming system that plays PS5 games natively, it's called Steam Deck.

I think a big multiplying factor here is that Playstation and Xbox really see the writing on the wall, and they're now in a tricky situation. They're getting closer to market saturation, and things stagnated. It's seems they recognize that the next frontier in exponential growth and not pissing off shareholders is moving to new platforms and selling your exclusive games.

The risk they're trying to navigate being losing out on PS+/Xbox Live money. It seems like Xbox recognizes this and is moving into services and online platforms, and just generally trying to transition into a new paradigm in game sales the best they can. It seems like Sony is a bit more indecisive, trying to remain the walled off garden with all the exclusive games, the xbox games and keep mandatory subscriptions for multiplayer.

I think there's a real concern that as exclusives come to more platforms and console prices go up, that the customers will realize that PC is cheaper long-term, and has nearly everything.

But they have nothing to offer. Nothing to buy. The Switch has the Nintendo library. The Steam Deck has the Steam library. They will not have games for a new portable. Why make it?
You underestimate number of people who will buy it just because of the PlayStation brand, never forget PlayStation Portal did well sales wise despite being shit.

No, I do not. PS Portal had low sales expectations anyway. Doing well despite being shit does not mean those same sales could carry an actual handheld. Especially when there is even stiffer competition than there ever was for the PSP and PSV, especially when Sony abandoned the PSV after very little inhouse support, especially when their games will release on Steam as well and especially when they do not make games that people want.

Will there be Sony Ponies that will buy their stupid handheld in the millions? Yes. Will there be enough to make it worth make it or to win against the competition? I would not bet on that.

My husband did this to his old one. It's pretty easy to override a Vita's properiety microchip BS and load in dozens of gigabytes of games off your own SD card.
Can confirm. My vita is a handheld mega-drive/NES/SNES emulation machine. 64GB SD card with every game from those systems loaded on to it.

It's a must for anyone owning a Vita. I replaced the 3G module on mine and put a 128 card in there. These little bastards got a price hike recently and I'm glad I got mine on launch day. I just need to get a quality battery replacement and I'm all set.

id rather buy a vita and pirate it than some propietary ecosystem bs from sony right now

I kinda feel the Vita is old enough for people to start worrying about the reliability of the hardware, especially on second hand units. It launched in 2012 and was discontinued in 2019 so the units available in the wild are 5 years old in the best case scenario and 12 years old at worst and that doesn't take into account the wear and tear of the remaining units.

Once this old hardware gives up the ghost emulation will be the only way to play the Vita's game library. (And in Sony's infinite wisdom they have not made the Vita's library playable on any other PlayStation console)

Last I checked Vita3K is compatible with nearly 60% of all the games and progress on the emulator is ongoing.

I think most that want to buy one are well aware of that. I've seen post from people that are starting to see artifacts on the screen due to the video chip going bad, and all they had in common that they were overclocking the console constantly.
