I've mentioned this with the whole LGBT headcanon obsessions but this still applies. I don't see how race swapping is "fun" according to these people. Like "Oh, wouldn't it be so much fun if this character was black?" I know these people really do it to appear "progressive" (and lets be real its out of spite.) but taking them at their word it just feels like them admitting "I have no ideas on what they could do for these characters, so I'll just race swap them and that's it." So dumb really.

The art isn't actually half bad in of itself, which is the worst part I think. There's a semblance of a decent, distinct style here. It's just marred terribly by Zippertits and tumblr's idea of "artistic nudity."

Semi-related but a popular mouthwashing fan animator, Joetastic, made some videos with voice acting, where hey had some transwoman doing the voices for Anya and Daisuke. Saw some people defending the decision against the few detractors by saying “you’d have never known the VA was trans if [she] didn’t have it in [her] bio” or something. Which was hilarious bc I immediately clocked it as typical tranny voice. They all sound like dudes trying to do mommy roleplay asmr. A character whose whole story is that she was raped and forcibly impregnated still gets troon treatment, truly nothing is sacred.

It is so bizarre that 'edits'—functionally tracing—gain traction at all. A decade ago that was the original sin of online art, and now it's commonplace. I suppose it's acceptable to them if it's 'fixing' a character.

I think it’s part of this larger backlash against “cringe culture”. Like, “don’t feel ashamed of your autistic Sonic recolours” sort of mindset.
