Games Journalism General

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
On the one hand, Slitterhead does fit the "smaller scale and more creative approach" part. On the other hand, acting salty over review scores is just pathetic behavior.

I wonder if the person running that twitter will get in trouble for it.
A game studio begging for a better review score on twitter is definitely cringe. However the lack of self awareness that IGN has been a part of the problem artificially inflating scores for games that don't deserve it purely because they're AAA games, is hilarious. They even posted an article a week or two back that basically admitted veilguard didn't deserve the 9/10 they gave it, but then still didn't have the balls to follow through and fully admit it, and give it the 5/10 it does deserve. Especially after having gone out of their way to bullshit about black myth wukong and other games, while shit like concord got a 7/10.

Now we know why these review outlets give the bullshit scores they do to "AAA games", but if they hadn't been corporate bootlickers for the past decade and properly criticized shit, maybe things might be a little different now.

They really never recovered from Chip Minuchin

Games journalists prove again that they not only represent the OPPOSITE of what the gaming consumers believe. They also lack the class to be loyal to their own opinions, flip-flopping when things don’t go their way and pretending everyone didn’t just see them 180’ed shamelessly.

On the plus side, they're incredibly useful for finding good, fun to play games. So they're doing their job. They're just doing it backwards. I'm kind of tired of being a contrarian, but I'm not exactly rich, so...

John Walker of Kotaku made another racist and hateful clickbait article, attacking gamers because they hate woke games.

But of course it's been gloated and praised by Alyssa Mercante and her beta-cuckold allies.

He's not wrong, they are grifters.

Of course the actual solution to the problem is to stop making shitty games. Without shitty games for the grifters to make a buck off of, they'll move on from grifting about gaming... and we won't have shitty games. It's kind of a win-win.

I don't understand the point of this narrative that the mere existence of grifters profiting of the existence of a controversy means that said controversy doesn't actually exist or that regular people don't actually care about the issue at hand. I agree that anti-"woke" grifters have escalated out of control, especially in the last years, but I see it as a natural consequence of John Q. Public starting to get absolutely exhausted about the industry's tomfoolery. You don't have to ballwash Grummz, for example, to point out that there's an enormous ravine between the industry and its audience that's getting bigger and more hostile every passing day, that kind of clown is just there to profit from an already existing conflict, not to create or expand it. That's kind of the definition of what a grifter is.
It's a very weak argument that's not going to convince anyone who's already made up their mind about this, and I don't think that using the presence of grifters in the culture war as an argument against a side is going to benefit the left side of the argument at the end of the day.

Sure, because the simple reality is that the game journos and SBI type groups are also grifters. The difference is that they've targeted publishing companies and dev studios and convinced them that their opinion matters, when the reality is that their opinions seem range from not being worth shit, to being a detriment whenever we see the results of yet another 7, 9, or even supposed 10 out of 10 game somehow magically just fucking fail.

Game journos and SBI don't lose when publishers lose money. They already got their revenue via consulting fees, free vacations, advertising, and whatever other pay for play type bullshit they engage with and just move onto the next thing once the dev studio layoffs occur.

PCGamer with a deleted Hitman article today:

Hitman's Agent 47 is the ultimate proletarian hero that 2024 needs

But also, look, don't tell anyone this, and definitely don't publish it on a website with an international audience of millions, but there is something alluring about the game's fundamental fantasy at times like these. Not, uh, not the murder. No one treat this article as a signed confession. I mean the fantasy of intrusion and disruption into the worlds and schemes of our planet's ruling class, and the very slapstick justice you can exact when you get there.

Come on up folks! I have some fresh gaming journalist cope to show you all!

Context: IGN and a bunch of other gaming jurnlizm sites are laying off a bunch of people (the fact it isn't everyone is the true travesty)

Here's this clown arguing that Games journalism is dying and that's a bad thing because the youngins won't get indoctrinated (archive)

Slapfights in the replies:

"No chud, it isn't that gaming journalism lost all semblance of integrity, it's that ALL writing has lost its integrity therefore your assertion is invalid"

The rest of the replies are people shitting on Danny for his shit takes, and calling out gaming journalism for digging its own grave. Cope seethe and mald, journoscum. AI is unironically better than you.

You won't believe what Edwin Evans-Thirlwell of Rock Paper Shotgun wrote about Space Marine 2. (Hint: It involves Donald Trump and GamerGate)

"If you play WH0k ur a nazi~" is such a milquetoast and dramatic opinion to have in 2024, I'm more surprised he decided to write about it, add it to the pile.
He should be advocating adding more women and trannies as space marines, you know, the current criticism de rigueur.

We know so little about "this industry" that all it takes is for one shitpost on twitter to send you into a wailing rampage. Got it.
