Even the 80s slasher movies tackles religious themes and even depicts Christianity in a positive light. Jason spares the life of a little girl who was praying. Nightmare on Elm Street 5 Dream child was outright openly pro-life.

I don't remember why I stopped watching his videos but that just got him back a sub. Always a pleasant surprise to see the farms mentioned neutrally as a source without a disclaimer agonizing about how ebil hate speech and dawksing are.

The Russian one was pretty interesting. Not really too morbid or creepy, but an intriguing little piece of online weirdness. In a sea of groomers and fetishists there's something almost heartwarming about family drama blown so out of proportion by a touch of mental illness that it comes across as a sinister mystery.

There's exactly two or three good SCP games among the hundreds if not thousands of them. Containment Breach, and Secret Lab, and MAYBE that one game with the stairway SCP, everything else is slop, and I have yet to ever be proven wrong.

The best SCP games are the ones inspired by it but do their own thing like Control or Lobotomy Corp.

Containment Breach was good for it's time. From what I recall, the dev started off by making SCP-087-B (the stairway one), which was done quick n dirty on Blitz3D, an absolutely ancient, jank-ass engine. Containment Breach followed utilizing the same engine but got bogged down for years by feature creep and the limitations of Blitz, until the dev was dead-ended by said limitations. iirc, to continue any further, he'd have to start over completely from scratch on a new engine, so instead he chose to just drop it and move on.

Horror has also had good liberal films as well, a good holiday pick for this time of the year would be Black Christmas (1974) which is overtly feminist and pro-abortion. Great film, but messaging I personally disagree with.



I think most good horror is divided into two camps. More classical "conservative" horror is about fear of the abnormal, corruption, and deviation. For instance most monster, alien, or satanic films would fall here and they often end in a return to normality as the evil is defeated by a member or force of good, be they an authority figure or holy force. "Liberal" horror on the other hand has more interpersonal conflicts, the creature is usually a manifestation of a concept as opposed to a monster, think It Follows (STDs) or They Live (Consumerism being used to enslave the masses). Liberal films are more likely to have a downer ending or an ending in which sympathetic "evil" wins.



The idea that horror has always been left-leaning is dumb, if you trace it back far enough you get cautionary tales like Brother's Grimm and other folktales about not leaving the path, not being promiscuous, ect, it's the most conservative messaging possible. While there were horror stories utilizing left-leaning themes in the 1800s like Yellow Wallpaper it's really not until the silver screen when you start getting 50/50 splits on messaging. Web-original horror and ARGs lean unusually left in the worst way possible and I'm awaiting a pendulum shift to where more typical vampire, werewolves, or good old fashioned serial killers get their time in the spotlight again. The young age of the creators is undoubtedly a factor so maybe as they grow up and their taste and worldview develops we'll see more nuanced content even if it's commie garbage at heart.

In my opinion, the best horror is one that manages to capture both of these things. The Thing is a perfect example, it has one of the most iconic monsters in cinema, but you can also see as a message about the overwhelming paranoia during the Cold War. But like you said, most internet created horror content focuses too much in the message and ends up lacking everywhere else, so you get a lot of the same tired tropes (alien invasion, eldritch beings, mascot horror, etc.)

When horror got to the silver screen is when it developed a sleezy reputation. Does the gratuitous nudity and sex charged characters make it more liberal because it's sex positive or more conservative because the sluts and manwhores get killed by the villain?

it's funny when these safe edgy libshit creators act like their taste in horror and the macabre has an element of maturity, unlike those gosh darn tasteless edgelords they used to be.
A lot of their reasoning for changing their tune stems from the phrase "I've matured". Yeah I guess if you call no longer having a personality, no longer having a sense of humor, and developing an inability to take criticism as "maturing" then you sure did.

Anyways I am surprised no one posted Dire Trip's new video. I hate to be parasocial but I don't know what I'd do if Dire Trip ever turned out to be someone akin to Dreading.

Also YT recommended me this a few days ago. Literally brought new life into me. Other than it being drawn out, I really enjoyed the absurdity of it all. It's just like the old days of Youtube, I love it, it gives me hope for the future.

And lastly, Youtuber BitterSnake made a video talking about AI horror channels. Cool video but I think it's funny how he's shitting on AI while his youtube icon is clearly AI.

The only thing funnier, in the sad sort of way, is whenever anything related to CP/sex crimes against children comes up. The entire comment section is people fishing for reddit karma posting their internet tough-guy fantasies about how the criminals featured in the videos should be violently tortured, raped and murdered, as if that's somehow a controversial opinion.

I gave up on him about the time he started shoving his ugly tranny mug into every single video. I exclusively watch Mentour for my plane crash fix now. His videos are super well-researched and I like that he makes videos about near misses and situations where the pilots avoided crashing by doing the right things. I've learned a lot about what to do when flying a plane by watching his videos, even though I've never set foot behind the controls of one and likely never will.

The thumbnail reminds me of the time as a kid when new storm drains were built in my neighborhood. I explored all of them with a friend. One tunnel was like 15 feet tall. In this tunnel, there was another smaller tunnel that ran perpendicular. It was small enough that I couldn't fit in but big enough that a smaller kid could. We shined a flashlight down the tunnel and it looked like it ran forever. My friend said "imagine crawling through that thing. Imagine getting stuck. Imagine being stuck and the water starts running down the drain." For some reason, I don't look back at that as creepy. The memory is strangely nostalgic.
