Game developers who have zero respect for PC gaming should not be given respect in any form whatsoever.
I read a post regarding an interview from Gamesradar about Unicorn Overlord and Vanillaware's inability to read the room regarding PC ports has left a bitter taste to me. Their unwillingness to allow a PC port of their games (hell I want a Dragon's Crown port) is bewildering to me considering that many Japanese gamers have already slowly started their transition to PC gaming (hence the abundance of JP Apex and Overwatch players in these years coupled with the PC MonHun games) not to mention many devs from Japan have started allowing a PC release, even their asian neighbors have started leaning into PC (such as Black Myth Wukong and Stellar Blade's PC port coming in 2025, not to mention the PC release of Earth Defense Force 6). This reeks of entitlement and a director's sense of pride that reminds me of the pretentious side of the indie gaming scene.
What eventually angered me that lead me to post this was the director's gall to complain how their company was in the constant case of bankruptcy, that they were running out of money, then they complain and beg to "please help us we're running out of funds uwu" type of shit. Atlus and SEGA are there and willing to port the fucking game for you retards, then you say "nah we can handle it" then the cycle repeats. This type of shit reeks pretentiousness on a whole other level that reminds me of the above post of Toby Fox and the indie scene.
The director thinks he can rise up and have his works be presented as some form of artwork yet he has this thinly veiled hatred for PC and constantly shits out begging posts for funding. Thing is, Vanillaware has nothing to show for that can be considered a "big hit" to keep them financially alive in the long run. Nintendo had to craft their roots before PC gaming was a thing so that they can be established and independent from PC as a whole and they have first party titles that incentivizes purchasing their platform (to compare in terms of UO's genre, that is Fire Emblem). Vanillaware is run with gimmicky shit, from their gameplay to storylines of their entire catalogue, and as a result you get a disjointed viewpoint of what they are capable of.
I compared this shit from the Bloodborne PC port that everyone wants but the situation has been reversed. In Sony's case, its the publisher holding the Bloodborne IP but Hidetaka Miyazaki is okay with giving Bloodborne a PC port, its just Sony being retards as usual. Here, Atlus and SEGA are open to PC ports (Persona 3-5, SMT V and Sonic Frontiers) but Vanillaware are too fucking dense to give a shit whatsoever. One is the publishers fault, the other is the developers' fault.
Vanillaware dug their grave with 13 Sentinels, now they can bury themselves in the same grave. Fire Emblem Three Houses and XCOM 2 will continue to be played in the tactical RPG genre and Unicorn Overlord will be forgotten in the sands of time, all because of the director's pride and ego.
