That's a form of cope. At the end of the day Josh is just a lazy little Boglim who has given up on taking any risks and stepping outside of his comfort zone. Like he likes to sniff his own farts, Cobes likes to dwell in his own self-pity and cope.

He can’t spell or use can openers, he is nearing his mid-30’s.

He bought the boy a trailer.
I think he loves Josh as much as he can, without doing anything that would cause Josh to pull away from him. He doesn't want Cobes to feel worse about his health, he knows it stresses him out, so he doesn't push him on it. He doesn't ban NAL from visiting, because he doesn't want Cobes to resent him.

It's gotta be hard being Clint. You care about your boglim child, but you probably feel like you can't do anything meaningful to help him.

Yea there's another one when he said "I'm straight, I'm not gay" and it was posted to the door dash subreddit. Of course, the redditors got very upset that he was "homophobic" despite that users were giving them the context and he only added that because faggots were sending grinder dates there multiple times a day.
