What are you playing right now?

Is Frostpunk some kind of misanthropic Social Darwinist psyop to make you hate crippled people?

Your country became a dictatorship? Git good.

That is the moral of Frostpunk.

That or something about how even well meaning people can lead society to dystopia or something.

So I made a huge dent in my backlog, and decided to reward myself with a new game when the Black Friday sales were on. That game? Spider-Man 2

First things first, still love the gameplay. Swinging around New York is always fun and I thought the new wing suit mechanic worked well. The addition of Miles as a co-protagonist was fine, he had his own thing, Peter had his thing, and it was easy to swap between them if you found a side mission for the other. The fights were fun, and I liked the new Venom powers. Overall, I enjoyed myself, and I will probably go back later and Platinum it.

Having said that... People were not wrong about this story. The DEI hires really got into the writing room because Peter pretty much just exists to make Miles and MJ look good. Him quitting at the end, and the rumors that Miles will be the protagonist from now on, is annoying especially since the ending basically telegraphs that Norman is finally going to become the Green Goblin in the next game. And that's a story that needs to be about Peter, Miles wouldn't make sense. It's why they made Harry Venom instead of Eddie Brock, it's more impactful for Peter.

I could go on for a while, which is funny because I liked the game, and I'll definitely be buying the next one even with my problems, because it was still fun to play. And that's why I bought it.

Now to get back to my backlog and then I can see what they did to Kratos in Ragnarok.

Trying to get into Darkest Dungeon. Real hard to like it. In this case it's because the central gimmick is so overdone that I can't take it seriously as a mechanic, it just pisses me off.

The idea of heroes cracking under stress and undermining the party in various ways (Leroy Jenkinsing, cowering, stealing shit, spreading their panic like contagion by freaking out) is great. But it's so over-the-top that it is both aggravating and makes the immersion go up in flames. They get yelled at by a skeleton and suddenly they're on the ground pissing and shitting and crying hysterically.

UBoat is a completely different game in a completely different genre, but I think it's a great example of representing essentially the same idea in a much more subtle and realistic way. Your pantywaist crew members are unknown until they crack and when they crack (which can get you killed instantly, get depth charged because someone start's shrieking while a destroyer's overhead) you know to cashier them as soon as you're back in port. The ones who are proven cool aren't going to suddenly break. Over time you can kind of filter out the human waste, but you still have to take care of them because sitting around all day at battle stations in the dark with cold canned food and blue lights on will freak them out, and sometimes it's good to play radio or cards.

I dusted off the best version of Civ (4) to load the Cavemen2Cosmos mod, which somehow I never got around to. Man, it's something else- the tech tree would fill the walls in my room if I printed it out. There's something hilarious about starting Civ off with literal cavemen and capturing a neanderthal unit to just wreck havoc on your enemy civs.

Ender Lillies. It's pretty good, kind of a 2D souls-lite/Metroidvania kinda thing. The art and music is especially good. It is a bit light on story, and somewhat generic so far, but the gameplay is fine.

I played for a couple hours, died once to some bullshit and rage quit, but I'll go back to it. I'd give it a 7.5/10 at this point.

I've been playing AoEII DE, mainly going back through the OG Age of Kings campaigns since I never really got through them back in the day. Unfortunately I suck at RTS games. I keep entering a stage where my army is annihilated and the objective I have to defend gets destroyed because I can't replenish my army at all.

Playing Final Fantasy Tactics: War of The Lions. Trying to make a balanced party that doesn't steam roll the game is arguably harder than making one that either does or gets steam rolled itself.

Decided to replay God of War 2018 again and actually enjoyed replaying the game. Only main complaint is Atreus. His "fuck everyone else, we're gods" attitude during a chunk of the game got super old really quick. Besides that I'm playing COD Black Ops: Cold War zombies to kill time.

Wanted to try out PoE2 since everyone licks its ass
But couldnt even created a character cause it needed to connect to a server for some god forsaken reason. And it failed after trying for 0.5 second each time i tried to confurming it.
So technically the last game was Mechwarrior 5 clans wich is pretty good actually, can recommend if you like autistic stompy robots

Been playing GT5 lately. Still have some coupons from when the online service was still available. I really want to check out the mods that are out now. But only if I can do it on real hardware because I hate having the audio on rpcs3 REEEE at me until I reset the emulator whenever a hiccup happens.

Ive really been wanting to play this but wine hates it ATM and is stuck on the press any key to continue screen right after the logo.

Note, you don't lose anything when you die. Everything you collected, you get to keep. Monsters respawn, but pots respawn, too, and can randomly have more upgrade crystals in them.

I'm stuck in this on what youtube considers to be the hardest boss. I only upgraded the attacks that are useful for exploration and don't feel like grinding for crystals to try anything else.

Oh, that's good to know at least. Still, I just hated my flow being interrupted by an enemy I didn't even see. One nitpick I have is how small everything is, they could do with zooming in the screen a bit or something.

So it gets pretty hard huh? The only real trouble I had so far was a crow boss. That mother fucker's fireballs were a real bitch to avoid, it basically came down to a war of attrition. I beat it first try but it wasn't a skillful or graceful victory in the least lol. The crow power is also kind of a shitty reward, it has low range, low power, and shoots very slowly. I imagine it might get pretty good but I don't wanna waste resources to find out.

I can recommend zombie army 4, it's on sale right now.

It's very useful, I have it maxed out (got greedy, should've stopped at level 5 for now, ah well).

There are only 6 spirits with enough charges to be useful for exploration, and 3 of those are lategame.
rare crystals
Fireballs: homing, very good
Knives: short range, horizontal, lategame
COVID-19: extreme lategame

cheap crystals
Crow: passive attack, homing, enemy detection
Dog: passive attack, ground only, gets stuck, lategame
Axe: ok range, midgame, slow
The alternative melee attacks (infinite charges) take rare crystals. Everything else that takes cheap crystals has like 12 charges and is only good for boss fights if at all.
The basic melee attack takes its own special kind of ultra-rare crystals found in predetermined locations.

So it gets pretty hard huh?
Exploration gets harder from the 4th area. Even with leveling and health increases, Lily becomes more fragile relative to the attacks of the monsters she should be fighting, attacks are more annoying to avoid, it's easier to just shoot the monster from relative safety. I cleared the first three areas with the basic attack but started maxing out the shooters to keep up. (Later on, there are sword upgrades and monsters that are shielded from the front, and melee becomes important again.)

Bosses get harder, too, I'm stuck on boss 6 out of 9, it's the fastest and hits the hardest. From what I've seen on youtube, the best strategy for bosses is to whack them with Silva's hammer for Poise damage and unleash all the underused, underappreciated limited edition attacks when the boss is knocked out. But I spent all my crystals on the two shooters, and between them they don't have enough ammo to eat through the boss's health bar, I have to either grind or git gud.

Still, I just hated my flow being interrupted by an enemy I didn't even see.
One of the things the crow is good for, it autoshoots at enemies.
