Sweet Baby Inc. and the Steam Curator Group Conspiracy - The company that is responsible for the diarrheic video game writing.

The player count is relatively low on Steam. But you can handwave these numbers because it's on gamepass. I don't think it did gangbusters. In the Indiana Jones thread I highlighted why I think it didn't do so well.
The system specs do not help either, people tend to forget a lot of PC gamers have old yet serviceable GPUs (for example) and they won't upgrade for a single meh single player game which requires a RTX capable GPU

I think cyberpunk was the big gambit to get everyone to buy the RTX cards, and imo it failed. Did kindof work, RT cards are the standard for new chips and people have accepted this, however amongst those still running a 1080 or the like I don't personally see a huge drive to move on.

I bought my current main PC in 2017 and apart from RAM, storage and OS I haven't really touched it.
OK. Maybe that's a bit but most people focus on the CPU and GPU and I haven't touched them.

But when the last movie anyone actually gives a shit about is from 1989? That's 35 years ago at this point. Not many people are going to be excited about that.
It's one of those unfortunate franchises where every new installment was worse than the last. The original is an absolute classic of the form. The second is okay with some cringy moments. The third had some okay moments, but shockingly bad special effects, mostly just fucked up bluescreen shit, I have no idea what they thought they were trying to do.

Nothing after that is even worth watching.
Too late motherfucker. The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones starring Timothy Chalamet and Tom Holland, coming soon to Disney+.
They ought to give up on Indy, only Harrison Ford could do that.

Instead they should do another live action Tintin, but an actual accurate totally faithful to the original Tintin in the Congo.

>he thinks there will be a white cis male in the lead

you'll get some mystery meat lesbian as the "real" protag with young indy as her lapdog, including a cuckshed episode and gettting fucked by a troon information broker as a deal

faithful to the original Tintin in the Congo
I see what you did there

Apparently, only 15% of all Steam users' playtime was with games released this year. 47% of the total playing time on Steam was spent on games released in the last one to seven years, while 37% of time was spent in games that have been out for eight years or more. Make of this what you will.
I have 0 problem believing this, and am only shocked it isn’t more.

I’m seeing so much life come back into old game’s fandoms, online and off. Couldn’t believe I got to have a Tenchu discussion offline in 2024.

it very likely is more, fortnite isn't on steam, genshin isn't on steam, those two alone are technically years old.
it's also a perk of PC that you can play games from whenever and don't have to beg your favorite console maker to "remaster" it for you (often with very mixed results), which probably would be counted as "new" game as well.

That one Game Developer clickbait article from March 2024 (A), written by Bryant Francis, has been reposted on X (A) until it finally got community noted.

Did Sweet Baby Inc shut down?

I think we all know the plan was to set up Phoebe Waller Bridge to take up the mantle after Dial of Destiny broke box office records...whoops!

I keep meaning to start a thread to ask if I'm getting old or if games just suck now, because the games I've most enjoyed playing this year are all at least two console generations old.

Thanks for reminding me about my useless copy of Tenchu Z because the cowards at Microsoft didn't bother making it backwards compatible and it never got a PC release.

I would say the games just suck now, but it's not as clean as some people make it.

On one hand you have the DEI incentives: leading to lower qualified, or not qualified, developers
Activists who are not that imaginary and creative with what they want to create, they just want to put their messages in the game.

On the other hand: you have a way more corporate, design-by-committee approach.
Usually leading to even more gray sludge type of games.

Both of which that feed off of each other

If the SBI site is really down for good they're probably getting ready to rebrand and come back under a new name, just like ESG became DEI. If Kim Belair is making bank she's not going anywhere.
I’m just wondering what sort of fetish executives at gaming companies have were they’ll happily pay millions to have an uppity black woman threaten and patronise them.

Time to strangle all of it. All of this is an extremely profitable racket.

"Old Fandoms"

You mean the guys already in these fandoms grew up and start to spam the content more and more of already popular game franchises from back then, I have never been able to talk about say Of Orcs and Men here or really much on /v/ maybe on Styx threads but even then Styx threads are extremely rare too.
