Soulless eyes...

Alright. Just finished watching the first episode of Beast Games on prime. As expected, it's full of bribes and a lack of any actual games, just basically slamming money on people's faces so they can show off the contestant's mental breakdowns for millions to see. Here's the recap.

> 1000 people left
> they're all sent into large columns, with, at first everything being vertical
> "hmm," mr. beast says to himself, "i wonder what interesting thing i can make them do considering this is called beast ga- MORE BRIBERY!!!!"
> suddenly brings up the game's already begun, shocking everyone
> begins bribing a total of a $1,000,000
> people reasonably lose it
> catch is that it gets split upon the more people who get out. if 50 people chooses to leave, they all get $20,000.
> 52 people ends up leaving; everyone ends up getting less than <$20,000, which really ain't a lot for certain people but i assume for these people it would definitely help them a lot in some way
> next event
> mr. beast establishes the temporary teams
> informs that someone must choose to eliminate themselves for their team. if they do, they're eliminated but their team stays in the game. the remaining three teams who don't choose someone to eliminate themselves are eliminated.
> intense pressure intensifies as the number gets lower and lower
> you can really feel people having genuine emotional breakdowns because they don't want to already lose after getting so many close calls on the trial
> mr. beast is probably smiling like an npc robot, trying to process the emotions other people are experiencing
> latino(?) lady gives up her spot, helping her team be the last one to be safe; she reasonably breaks down
> casually drops them down like flies, slow cam'ing their tears or surprised faces as they drop however far down
> gets an unskippable one minute ad (thanks amazon)
> next round, people have to stack blocks; all blocks has to be stacked before the 10 minute timer ends
> if it falls, immediate elimination
> if it falls after the timer ends, no elimination
> cue more showing of people breaking down in tears
> jimmy probably smiling in the background
> final round, everyone is now in "horziontal" teams. more lousy bribing ensue. if someone accepts it, then everyone in that horizontal row is eliminated
> 100 people must be eliminated before the show can go on aka people living in beast city for an entire month
> starting off at $10k
> offer increases to $25k. a metric ton of people accept the bribe
> increases up to $50k, more people accept it
> increases to $80k, etc
> finalizes at $100k. finally reaches to "100" people, except the last person who accepted the bribe was in a horizontal row of 7 people, so it was 99 instead of 100, so instead of just letting one more person get out, 8 more people has to get out.
> black dude who constantly brought up about trust and preventing the people in his row from getting eliminated ends up being the one to accept the $100k bribe
> doesn't seem to regret the decision at all, successful manipulation
> beast games dramatize it as much as possible
> now less than 500 people remain
> gets an unskippable one minute ad (thanks amazon)
> the remaining <500 will now live in beast city (that apparently costed $15 million to make) for an entire month as the beast games go on
> now time for the actual non-bribing games to start
> ah what am i saying he's gonna make sure each episode has at least one bribe in place

Well, this was something. Wasn't much interesting. Just more bribing and emotional breakdowns. Love how he hyped the game up to have 2,000 people competing, only for less than 500 to actually do the games. Can't make this up any further if I could. The contestants in his Squid Game video had more opportunities compared to the 1,500 people who got out in just two videos.

Will recap episode 2 soon once I watch it.

The reception around the show is not good. Alot of 1 star reviews on google and IMDB. Alot of fake 5 star reviews too, looks like Amazon is botting the show like they did with Rings of Power.

Dexerto is reporting from a Buisness Insider (Paywalled) article that they received documents that anyone who discloses the nature of Beast Games before it airs gets hit with a $500k penalty.
Mr Beast is saying in this Independent article that the allegations around the show are "Not True". (Paywalled, can someone archive it for me).
The Guardian reviewed the first episode. 2/5 - "One of the most undignified spectacles ever shown on TV."

Someone on reddit points out the comparison of the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie "The Running Man (1987)". There's an ad in there called "Climbing for Cash" where a contestant has to climb a rope over a pen of vicious dogs who want to eat him as he falls.

Good recap.
I almost managed to watch the full first episode.
It is not a good show. I think as a contestant you are probably an idiot if you don't just take one of the bribes and get the hell out. There are so many demonstrations of arbitrary elimination, relying on the trust of strangers to not be greedy, or maybe even more greedy for future buyouts so they wait a bit more. If you get a shot to just get out with something that seems like the best option.
Bribery is not compelling, there is no competition for the most part, just an odd lottery.

It is depressing to watch.

You said it well, sir. That's what a large chunk of his videos are. Just lotteries disguised as games. He knows his audience. He knows people are willing to sacrifice themselves or others for some cash. He knows he can easily manipulate everyone because he knows how the entertainment landscape works. That's why he's so successful. That's why his Squid Game video was so successful. He took everything about game shows and reality shows and amped them up to his own molded liking.

Maybe it truly was for the best of the contestants to accept the bribes. I'd rather go home with $2,000 or even $25k-$100k in my pocket than literally nothing (everyone who gets eliminated gets $2,000 in compensation, I forgot to add that. I feel it should be higher depending on how far someone's in the game, though.). In the end, only one person is getting that $5,000,000, right? Why not take advantage of the bribes to get some free money by eliminating yourself? It's that exact mindset that Mr. Beast took advantage of, and will continue to do even if he's a trillionare.

Does Jimmy have any personality whatsoever? Any hobbies or interests?

In any of his interviews he has nothing interesting to say, his whole life seems to be just about making as much money as possible

And I'm not surprised that IGN's low score triggered him. Jimmy was always a thin skinned faggot when someone didn't kiss his ass. He's fucked if he ever gets into politics

Funny that you say that, I had drafted a post which said: "What talents does Jimmy possess outside of "guy with money"?"

Which leads to me to the rhetorical question of: Why do people even like him? The answer is money of course. People only like him because of fame and money. Jimmy is the worst parts of celebrity worship mixed in with being stupidly rich. No one really likes him. They just like his money.

You're ignoring how Jimmy attained his success. I think he has/had great creativity and skill as director for his little projects, I think also he had a friendly, "nice guy" vibe too him (before people noticed how blank he came across, this could though be due to his modern routine which is dedicated to the channel). The video that made him blow up was the counting to 100k video which was dumb and simple (as a concept not in practice) but something that does capture your attention.

I think everyone’s off base on the bribes. I get it’s boring but I don’t think he’s doing it because he thinks it’s really compelling. My take is that he wanted to break the record for number of contestants, but it’s a record because it’s an unmanageable number of contents. It’s difficult logistically while filming, but also difficult in the edit because you can’t know about or care about that many people. So I think he’s just trying to dwindle the numbers to a reasonable amount as fast as possible. Once you get it down, now you run it like any other contest but you still get the record.

Basically like Paris Hilton, essentially famous for being famous.

Another review, this time from IGN. They gave it a 2/10. What's different this time is it pissed off Jimmy enough for him to cope tweet about it.

2024: when fucking IGN is the voice of reason

Not even the majority of larger YouTubers dared to speak ill of mrbeast before

Everything mrbeast makes or touches is generic consoomer slop and this show isn't going to be anything different

MrBeast is so thin skinned, sorry Jimbo but every fucking tv show and movie (at least from bigger studios) can have thousands of people working on it, and it can still get low ratings. That's part of life.

So does this entire situation vindicate all the wokists who hated MrBeast during the curing blindness thing because they thought he didn't actually care about the people be was helping and was only doing it for publicity?
Given he faked most of his charity work and the ones he did help, he was just taking credit for already existing charities, then yes.

His environmental charities too are also scams especially Team Seas since he barely made a dent in it and was funded by major polluters of the ocean. Not to mention the fact Jimmy is a cryptobro undermines any environmental work he's done.
