Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

like the void people entire arc being ultimately pointless and it feels like a copout of not having a resolution or judgment for all the suffering they caused. In general there are many characters that aren't really called out for their shit even if they are objectively evil
I wouldn't say that. Spoiler for the final episode but
even Yazen gets his comeuppance and his actions were like, 7 years ago? That's some dedication
For instance, the void people have good reasons to do what they do and the resolution ties with the Buddhist themes of the story. The midget asking Senya to take his life and save his people solidifies that they're not evil. But yeah there's no answer to the question of "should you sacrifice for the greater number", or rather it seems to be more about the personal journey: Senya would sacrifice for his own people but not the Void, but he still understands them even if he fights back.
Kinda but you definitely see it took a toll on him, and it takes him years to return to being normal and not edgy/drunkard.
Of course, revenge takes a toll on him, but if you pay close attention, he never acts irrationally during his revenge arc (in the manga, specifically, he always uses his blade against good targets, he finds enlightenment in the middle of his climactic battle against his revenge target and gets a sense of closure and catharsis for killing him.

It's obviously not shown as the solution to everything wrong with his life, but it's not shown as something bad either. Just a logical step in his story. The final episode kind of seals that too.
So in the end revenge wasn't bad but he also had to find something else to rebuild and live for, which he did.
The work seems to be pretty clear on the idea of anti violence, it's there from the very start with Tama's goal
It's clearly a foolish goal, Tama is never taken completely seriously when she talks about it and questions her own motives at some point. In fact
it's not surprising that she just ends up retiring with her husband in the final episode, and that Shinsuke's village ends up living through the wars and conflicts without taking part in any of it, just blissfully managing to be disconnected from that
Not to say the work is pro violence either, it's very clear that violence being avoided is a good thing but there are plenty of Mizukami moments where some characters needs to take action decisively and do without being blamed in any way. Plenty of killers in the cast as well, Shinsuke kills a guy in the first chapter, the shogun kills dozens of people in his fight.
while the initial fight was hard, very quickly he gains the Kannon form which trivialize the rest of it
That's kind of the point, he was getting his ass kicked and almost forced to use lethal force, but being able to let go of his fears and ascend lets him exert overwhelming power to save everyone.
Biscuit Hammer is still the author's best work, I found Spirit Circle to be pretty strong up to the final chapters, while Youkou was too meandering, even if the adaption changed a lot. Too many characters, too many sidetracks and Tama goes from the main character to having the least amount of development and being entirely about Jinka.
Sengoku Youko is definitely one of the more chaotic works in its structure and switches. For me it's Sengoku Youko > Biscuit Hammer > Spirit Circle, for some of the reasons that put you off (like the amount of characters and sidetracks), but a more consistent structure like Biscuit Hammer's 10 characters cast (+ pets) has it pros.

Going to share some seethe from people getting NTR'd by Maruto Fumiaki lol. These are from when "It's a Little Late, but I've Fallen in Love with My Childhood Friend" was revealed to have a love triangle rather than a wholesome chungus romcom. It all changes at chapter 21. Credit to rdrama.net for bringing this to my attention. https://rdrama.net/h/anime/post/327424/based-japs-marseykamikaze-do-it-again

It was revealed when our femcel MC was just staring to get truly close to her object of affection and a BOMBSHELL is dropped as one of the side characters is found out to be fucking him, sparking NTR in the MC. The POV entirely shifts even to this side character as it's further revealed that she isn't involved with him truly for love but as a distraction from her fucked up family drama. It's a complete tonal shift from the past 20 chapters being light-hearted and comedic.

People were NOT happy (cue 10x the amount of comments on manga dex than usual from people)
24 Pages of seething on Mangadex lmao / Reddit thread meltdown - "What The Fuck?" top rated comment / desu archive of /a/ thread in despair at getting NTR'd again.

Hey, I just said that.
Why would you introduce conflict in an already perfect wholesome series? Wtf author?
Oh wait, it's the same fricking author who did white album 2, no surprise.
---
---
uhhh, was this really necessary? - The short and simple answer is no. Of course it's a common route for romance to take, though common shouldn't be conflated with good. Fricking heck it just sucks.
---
Is she actually a girlfailure if the world (author) actively shits on her? - She is now a girlsurvivor. Put thru the bs of her friends and the author.
Well, was nice while it lasted, will drop it here. What a shit development. Throwing a wholesome story out the window with just an unnecessary love triangle drama. Sad to see. --Exactly. On top of it the premise didn't hint any of this. Rather the premise had been set on a short wholesome romcom. So the drama was really unexpected and this chapter is so sudden.
The seethe continues as the chapter progress and people have now succumbed to hate-reading it.

redditors just wish this was hentai instead with chapter 25 released.

A simmering tension remains with chapter 27. Stages of grief now in anger.

Bro this sounds like the author has... personal issues if they shifted this hard, LMAO

That's exactly what's happening. All the seethe and rage is literally:
They are actually, literally relating to the femcel :story:
The only romance that was great in Anime recently was Spice and Wolf's new adaption. Lawrence and Holo just FALL IN LOVE AND THAT'S THAT.

The actual books are great too. The slow realisation where Holo never wants her journey with Lawrence to end...

2024 has been ass for romance anime wise. Manga it's been a bit better, but on screen anime, unless it's a B-tier romance you go out of your way to watch (guilty) you kinda got fucked this year. I guess Dandadan- but that's more because it DOES happen in the manga over 160 chapters in, the Anime barely made any progress in 12 episodes

Why are there such saltfests over cheap, pulpy comics meant to be disposed? It's so disproportionate considering what little noise there was over Grendizer U's ending, and that show well and truly deserved it.

Because this is the Anime/Manga thread. Also if you throw away manga you should be burned at the stake

To be a bit more specific, it's an initiative sponsored by a number of companies, NGOs, and the US Department of Homeland Security to fully embed "The Work" in every operational aspect of corporate culture and operations, to the extent that it is no longer a specific set of rules or edicts, but rather a constant drive like the profit motive that no one questions because everyone takes it as a given.
Is there more info on this, like a Wikipedia entry or something?

I think Ruroni Kenshi does it better than Trigun since Kenshin is at least doing it in response to guilt over his own actions whereas Vash is doing out of guilt over his unwilling part in Knives actions.
No anime has ever done pacifism well because it really can't be done well. It's a stupid thing to make a story about in the first place, it's never not frustrating. Like dude, just chop his head off already.

The person doing all the legwork on the subject is the vtuber Kirsche Verstahl, who has gone through the videos and websites BRIDGE participants have put out talking about what they are doing. She has a playlist of edited-down videos (since the original format they were presented in was as part of hours-long livestreams) here: https://www.youtube.com/@KirscheVerstahl/playlists, although I don't think they're in order. Despite what you might think of the source, she has receipts for everything.

True, but why is there such seethe over a manga in a generic artstyle in an overdone genre as opposed to a remake of one of the most popular anime franchises worldwide being butchered by a hack obsessed with redoing Valvrave in different settings?
Because Romance is the most popular genre in literature, period, manga, books, all of it. You can look up the statistics. Mecha is niche and not many people care about giant robots. Yes people are going to seethe about romance because statistically everyone reads it.

I'd say that's why it works, because in the story the only people who really agree with his decision are women and children, his pacifism is constantly portrayed as a crippling handicap and most of the plot only happens because he's a big fucking pussy and tried to cold turkey stop killing and not just only kill bad guys as some vigilante or something. You can think he's cool or whatever for trying to uphold this no-killing rule but the plot makes out to be some Sisyphean retard; the appeal of the series is watching him try to do shit in the worst way possible instead of just killing human traffickers and drug dealers and mad dog assassins with a sword.

I guess since it's the girl getting cucked
Dude, Hikari's not a femcel getting cucked, she's just autistic as fuck who couldn't spit it out years ago when she had the chance, and she's now realizing the dude has a life even though the signs were right there. Did no one pay attention before this twist?

Now could her friend be a conniving snake in the grass who was never a friend to begin with? Maybe. But as it stands, the dude has two different girls he's interested in, and he's conflicted as to which one he actually wants to be with. This "NTR" cryfest from readers is hysterical since even if we hadn't gotten her backstory and how they met, the fact of the matter is sometimes the childhood friend doesn't win, and in this case, it's because the childhood friend was too autistic to confess and therefore, in her eyes, lost her shot. This is reality, and this makes for good drama.

Anyhoo thanks for the rec, I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Worse. Vash doesn't want to kill because her caretaker, who was part of the SEEDS project, supervised Vash and Knives' third sibling, Tesla (this is manga canon). The plant died on her watch, and the guilt is enough for her to teach both boys pacifism and the sanctity of life. The problem with this is that Vash and Knives end up being the extremes of both sides. Vash absolutely refuses to hurt or kill anyone, even at the cost of his own life. Knives becomes a genocidal maniac. At the end of the manga and the anime, Rem's philosophy is proven right in the end by a lot of plot armor and other shit.

Fumiaki is well-known for doing this to add tension to all his manga so idk why people were so surprised.
