I called her out asking why she got involved but I never came back to it because in part it's none of my business, not my place to "enlighten her" (as if I could change her mind or opinion through discussion), and I dont really care enough, especially not enough to have that kind of thing done over twitter.

I did want to say that, yeah, I had almost written a post about how Slowbeef reminds me a lot of those "rat kings" you talk about here on these forums. He's kind of chilled out but back in the day he was pretty bad about it. He was the type of dude who wouldnt really fight his own battles, and act like he was above it all, but he wasnt going to stop anyone else if they wanted to do something that met his end goals, even if it meant bending the rules. I almost would have said he belonged on this forum but he always had just enough self awareness to reign it in when things were getting heated (see his lukewarm attempt at picking sides in the twitter debacle) which may have been him seeing other mods get doxed and harassed or something else.

I've got to disagree with this. Whilst I think some of the videos they produce aren't great, I think their average quality has gone up over the years.

You might be on to something with Diabetus losing interest, however. Yeah you're completely right here, I forgot about the Kickstarter Nonstarter videos they do which are generally pretty hilarious. They had those Dahir Insaat videos a while back that were amazing as well, I thought those were some of the funniest things they had done in a while. Overall though I've found their video game commentary had been going downhill.

I wonder if Diabeetus not making it out to MAGfest this year for the panel is another sign of his continued disinterest. Apparently the panel got cancelled anyways which is lol, but still.

Kind of surprised TieTuesday had beef with Lowtax's moderation. They produced some pretty good content together and I thought they shared similar mindsets with these topics. I asked both of them over Twitter a few weeks ago if they were planning on collaborating again and they both said 'yeah'.

Slowbeef is good people though, I hope he never gives in to the SJW mindset that surrounds him.

Beef's in pretty deep with the weird SA Marxist crowd, but he's also the parent of a young daughter, a young daughter who might well have met Shmorky had it not been for his and Lowtax's falling out. That probably makes him the closest thing to a mediator you can get in this scenario without hiring an outside service.

Not a single specific event, just his general behaviour and attitude.
I'm just going to give my opinion based on how I first discovered Retsupurae (and, by extension, the SA let's play clique) and my observations about it, so don't take this as God's honest truth or anything. So story time, I'll try and keep this as short as I can, but it's going to be a wall of text anyhow.

I can't remember how I came across the first RP video I watched (their Rise of the Dragon RP), it was probably one of the "recommended videos" YT suggests or whatever. I thought that it was pretty funny, so I checked out their channel and it seemed to me that their channel had, broadly speaking, two types of video-qualities: 1 - their older videos which had poor sound/visual quality and were mainly the two main guys and other commentators yelling at people badly playing videogames and 2 - their newer videos which were just the main two guys providing humorous commentary over longplays of old videogames and flash games. I didn't like the look of the older vids so I just didn't watch them and kept to the newer ones and became a fan of their RPs. I started listening to their podcast as well.

So sometimes they made references to older videos that they made, people they mocked, old jokes etc and I got curious and watched them. I was pretty put off by how viciously mean spirited they tended to be towards the people whose videos they RP'd, especially Slowbeef.

Basically, their format was that they'd find a let's play video that they didn't like for some reason (bad visual quality, poor gameplay etc), record themselves shitting all over it (with their own audio quality often being worse than the people they were making fun of but whatever) then upload it to Youtube and link to it on Something Awful so that goons could circlejerk themselves over how much better they are than a thirteen-year old playing old games on an emulator. And, from what I've seen and read, their fans would then start weening on the let's players and a lot of them deleted their accounts because of harassment or whatever.

Here's their Billy MC videos, which are basically highschool bullying esque bullshit where they rip into a (possibly autistic) guy that plays Mario and shit. They made a lot of these, I think even more than are on their current channel (they've been banned from YT a bunch of times and I think their current account is their fourth or something and they didn't re-upload everything). They're relentless with him, they pretty much shit on his entire life: his mother, his job, his friends - suicide jokes etc.

Most of the humour in the old Retsupurae videos was *gasp!* not very politically correct (which isn't something that bothers me, but it's relevant a little later in this riveting story I'm weaving so that's why I'm mentioning it). I think people have said here on the farms that they doubt that Slowbeef is a lolcow, but watch the old Retsupurae videos and listen to the things that he's saying and his demeanor; he's usually shrieking like a retard and he seems to get genuinely angry, his humour is really bitter and full of smug hatred.

Here's a couple of examples:

Slowbeef's screeching, nasally reaction to some guy let's playing Snatcher, an old Sega CD game that Slowbeef likes - at the beginning he screams at the guy to kill himself:

Some guy playing Megaman on an emulator, featuring the gay rape stylings of Slowbeef and Diabetus (again, their non-politically correct humour will be relevant later in this wall of text I'm constructing):

So after watching quite a lot of these videos I was kind of disgusted at the way they were treating these let's players, because they (the Retsupurae people) kind of seem like a bunch of assholes and it was seeing the way that they used to treat just random people, usually teenagers, uploading let's play videos for fun that made me look at Retsupurae in a different light.

So the thing that bothers me about Slowbeef (and, to a lesser extent, Diabetus) is just how hypocritical and two-faced he is and how his portrayal of himself and his history with LP is heavily sanitized when he tells it.

The way Slowbeef likes to portray Retsupurae and its history is that it was light-hearted jabs at let's players and it was their immature fans who took it too far by harassing people and that he and Diabetus moved from mocking let's players to mocking the actual games because they were actually angry at their fans' behavior (they've said this a few times, the first time I heard it was on an old "Retsutalk" podcast).
And, as discussed earlier in the thread (or was it the other thread?), Slowbeef claims that's he's never considered himself to have any kind of ownership over let's play.

Here's Slowbeef passively aggressively reading a book over someone playing I Want To Be The Guy, a game where the gimmick is that cheap deaths come out of nowhere - that's the entire point of the game.
Every time the player dies Slowbeef stops reading and tells the guy to stop let's playing IWTBTG. He does this over and over and over:

When I first saw this video, years ago, my thoughts were basically : "this is so weirdly passive aggressive and bizarre behavior, what was going through Slowbeef's mind that he thought that this was a clever thing to do." But, thinking about it after watching more of their videos since then I'm pretty certain that it's the thing that goes through Slowbeef's mind whenever he makes any content, i.e.: "people are going to think that I'm so clever and this makes me feel so superior!"

So they went out of their way to stalk people like Billy MC and (and I know that this is a really gay term) "cyber bullied" him for fucking ages. They're a bunch of grown men screaming abuse at kids because they don't like the LP content they're producing because it doesn't meet what they consider to be the high standards of their private ten bux cuck club on SA.

Ultimately, I think they're just trying to retcon their old behavior. 'But so what, they were assholes a few years back, people change, maybe they don't do that kind of shit anymore because they actually do feel bad or they've outgrown their old attitudes or whatever'. But I don't think so, and the reason that I don't think so is that whenever they talk about their old videos it's always the fans that are at fault and not them, they always treat their old videos as if they were just mild teasing or whatever (despite the fact that the people that they made videos on, like Billy, ended up leaving Youtube for long periods or indefinitely because of harassment). Billy in particular was a sad case; I'm not certain, but from the way that he talks and behaves I think that he might have some sort of mental disability. He made some pretty depressing videos where he talked about not wanting to make content any more because he found it upsetting that Retsupurae would immediately make a video and the comments would be swarmed with retarded Retsupurae fans.

Probably the best evidence that they don't give a shit is that during the new enlightened Retsupurae era they had a podcast (their "Dad Games" Retsutalk podcast) where they talked about Billy MC. They'd learnt that he had gotten a position working at a food factory and he was apparently pretty proud of his new job. He'd become interested in talking about and reviewing snack food and had started uploading food review videos to Youtube.
Slowbeef and Diabetus talk about this and even though Slowbeef mentions that Billy MC hates him and wants nothing to do with him, they joke about setting up a kickstarter to have him fly to New York to try sushi and stuff and just generally discuss enjoying his new videos and finding them funny; they just don't give a fuck at all.

So I mentioned earlier that a lot of their old content uses some very non-PC humour, as shown in the linked videos. Well, modern Retsupurae has a lot of SJW fans and, even though they haven't gone full SJW themselves, Retsupurae has pretty much bleached out the type of humour that your average tumblr SJW would deem offensive. So videos like this, co-starring current Farms superstar Shmorky (especially fucking creepy in retrospect) are a thing of the past:

Which brings me to my next point: Slowbeef's one-sided feud with popular Youtuber Pewdiepie and his (successful) attempt to shame Pewdiepie into submission for his use of rape jokes in his let's play videos.

I've already written a lot, so a brief summary: Pewdiepie creates let's play videos where he makes crude jokes about rape and feces and other juvenile bullshit, Slowbeef sees Pewdiepie videos and starts to hate Pewdiepie (my speculation is that it was jealousy at his success that pissed of Slowbeef, but that's just my opinion), Slowbeef gets various Something Awful members to make a video named "Adults React to Pewdiepie" where said goons film themselves having exaggerated negative reactions to Pewdiepie's let's play videos, this video gets a lot of attention and Pewdiepie responds by saying that he doesn't want to offend anyone and he'll tone it down in the future.

A Retsutalk episode where a triumphant Slowbeef talks about this, without any self-awareness other than a token acknowledgement that they've done the same thing "a couple of times":

On a particularly retarded episode of Retsutalk a fellow goon and SA SJW LP 'sperglord named Tie Tuesday took Diabetus's place and awkwardly made unfunny jokes, left weird gaps whilst speaking, guffawed like a cretin and generally behaved like a mongoloid whilst discussing the (then recent) 2015 Summer Games Done Quick speedrunning event.
So, during this SGDQ some autist tried to be funny by making cringey suicide/domestic violence jokes during his Crash Bandicoot 2 run and was escorted from the premises by security and banned from Twitch/SGDQ for life for these heinous crimes.

Tie Tuesday offers his professional opinion as a """"""comedian"""""""" and someone with "basic decency" (whilst also trying to break the world record on how long a moron can extend a sentence without actually finishing it, forcing Slowbeef to talk over his retardation at many points):

Yeah @BlueSpark summarized a lot of what I was feeling about Retsupurae recently, especially about the circlejerk nature of early RP videos and how slowbeef was/is a sperg. Diabetus is chill and a mostly cool guy, slowbeef always came across as a cringy sperg who took LPs too seriously.

The best period of Retsupurae was probably between around 2010-2012/13 or so, it was after they had moved on from the lets play stuff and before they got bored of it and lost most of their comedic timing. In the early days these guys were getting pissed off and livid at some kid recording their game differently than the codified SA way. It was like that Something Awful thing of thinking their website was so much better than anywhere else, and getting irrationally angry about it and feeling the need to defend yourself about the art of talking over video games. It was less pathetic when they moved onto games because it became less about their circle-jerk involvement in the lets play community and more about the games themselves, so it became less about the personalities.

Their retconning of their past is annoying too when they get so angry in their old videos and then just act like they were just for fun when really it was a huge SA circlejerk the whole time.

There are a few funny early Retsupurae videos like some of the Navgtr reviews were really wild but for the most part its not that great. I do love their long plays such as Darkseed 1&2, Kings Quest 5&6, Cobra, weird Sega CD/FMV games etc and the flash games they looked at were really funny too, the duo's comedic timing also worked well as usually slowbeef would be knowledgeable about the game and Diabetus could do some good one liners and comedic moments, and slowbeef would be funny too. I would recommend a lot of these videos as they're very good. They haven't really done anything great since about 2012 though, probably because of appealing to the SJW crowd so they stopped a lot of their non-PC jokes in the videos. Their recent SJW antics are also annoying and hypocritical as listed above in Bluespark's excellent post, and the guests they've had on are hyper SJW spergs like Tie Tuesday who are grating to listen to.

I like LPs but I've never actually watched anything by Slowbeef so I wasn't too familiar with him, and I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt after reading his essays on his place in the history of the culture. I didn't realize he was whitewashing himself so much and that he's a powergrubbing hypocrite like the rest of his SJW would-be overlords.

oyster would do user given challenges in his megaman playthroughs. in this case diabetus got the request for the boss condition, so he suggested something obtuse and annoying to do and requested to do a retsupurae of it. oyster loved the idea and let him.

Darkseed 2 was pretty great because part of it was the game just being really dumb and part of it was the longplayer whose footage they cribbed being incredibly bad at the game and just wandering around in places, at some points even just inexplicably walking into a bathroom to just do nothing for a full minute before walking back out

it was this odyssey that was fascinating to watch and you felt like you were on this baffling journey right alongside them

The main appeal of RP wasn't that it was funny, it was always just a way to punish people who didn't do LPs the right way and the right way was to make a thread on Something Awful and follow their rules. Goons felt like they owned LPs and that Youtubers were stealing the concept.

This is also why they were so assblasted by Pewdiepie, he did everything wrong in their book and kept raking in cash for it.
