Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

I was reminded of some very old scanlator bulshit, is there any old baki readers here that remember Wildfang/Ichido

For about 15 years, almost every translations of the baki series was handled by one guy and even when from putting meme shit in the chapters, his normal translations where a bit shoddy to put it lightly

From what I remember some highlights included
- Charging $150 to read his translations on his site
-Claiming Itagaki himself was a member of his scanlation group there for it was official
-DDoSing and snipping any group who tried to translate baki because it was his series
- Replacing manga pages/panels from vagabond during the musashi arc
- Completely rewriting Jacks backstory so that his Mom and Yujiro where married and his hatred of Baki stemmed from his mom stealing Yujiro away

The last I heard from when he did that chainsawman chapter 108.5 prank and pissing off the scanlation group Hokuto no Gun in an attempt to "take over" kengan ashura so much that it pushed the group to translate one chapter a day until they finished the series. I'm not sure if he's still active because iirc he even got banned from some of the bigger aggregator sites you go to when you don't want to deal with mangadex's bullshit.

I've heard of him before in fansub circles. It's crazy how the worst translators are the ones that demand money and try to make their subs the only ones. Anonymous Russian Rippers is similar -- their subs are either stolen from other groups/HK bootlegs, machine translated from a foreign dub, or straight-up guessed, and they like to hold their subs hostage behind a paywall, put ads for donations in their subs, and even sell DVDs with their very low-quality subs. The other hated fansub group I know of is TV-Nihon, but people's complains with them seem to be their colourful fonts lowering video quality (people tend to get REALLY autistic over video quality) and their overly-literal translations that have to be supported by TL notes. I think TV-N does a good job -- they know Japanese, they know toku, and I like their fun fonts -- but apparently I'm in the minority.

>series about Deep Sea Life
>series usually focuses fish or whatever
>gradually becomes a character drama
>there is a character who’s entire purpose is to get under the skin of others
>turns out it’s a pooner lesbian
>fucking 3 chapters about this

Dropped that shit harder than a fucking rock. It literally is “I was born as the wrong gender”, “I’m the most desired woman at school, but I don’t want to be!”, and annoying angst.

What.

TV-Nihon is a Tokusatsu/Sentai group right? I don't know much about toku compared to anime or manga but I've heard a little about them it seems to be more mixed nowadays with most agreeing they have gotten better at translating (which is far from common with the translators who try and charge money for their works) but the main complaints still seem to be
-subs are still hard subbed and effects the video quality
-the honorifics question (which might be the most autistic fight in every form of translating Japanese media)
-still relying a lot on TL notes

It literally introduces the character as someone who gets under the skin of the protagonist by them being unable to deal with them and then has the spooky doctor do the same song-and-dance and then say “Oh you aren’t lying to yourself about your true self”. Then it has the mom do the whole “Oh? You’re a teenager and this is an obvious phase” with the mother being presented as an antagonist then she does the cuts her hair and wears pants.

Magmell is the name and I started disliking the series when the series became more about the characters rather than the fish.

It’s not like Firepunch where the pooner is presented as obviously broken. It’s very pro-pooner in a jarring way that makes me feel like some US NGO funding was given.

They mostly do Kamen Rider, and they did the subs for Tomica Hero, Machine Robo Rescue, and Gaiking LODM. I think they did a few Sentai shows like Dekaranger, but all the new ones are managed by another group.

The fights the anti-woke/anti-localizer people get into are way more autistic than honourifics. Considering the anime fandom is filled with trannies, teenagers, and soyboys, does it not stand to reason that they'll localize anime to appeal to those groups? I don't care about weebsubs and TL notes for toku since it's clearly Japanese, but for anime (e.g. Del Rey's Gundam translations) it can be anti-immersive and clunky.

It was revealed when our femcel MC was just staring to get truly close to her object of affection and a BOMBSHELL is dropped as one of the side characters is found out to be fucking him, sparking NTR in the MC. The POV entirely shifts even to this side character as it's further revealed that she isn't involved with him truly for love but as a distraction from her fucked up family drama. It's a complete tonal shift from the past 20 chapters being light-hearted and comedic.
> Read Romance media.
> Actual conflict.
> Muh NTR.

It's not even cheating.

NTR is the catch-all term now for everything where the MC doesn't end up with the designated love interest.
It's more of a term about how dare the imaginary girlfriend/boyfriend not be a virgin.

There was a great episode in Gintama about how you just don't think about your girlfriend's past because nothing good can come of it.

Yesterday I was reminded that the Code Geass has a conclusion film released 5 years ago, and finally went and watched it.

It was surprisingly good. I forgot who 80% of the cast was but it still had some nice battles, fun character moments and an actual good ending. I missed Kallen T&A, I feel like I haven't seen a good plug suit in ages.

I like how they made the villain a match for Lelouch. It's pretty fucking horrific what he did to her in return.

I wish Sunrise return to the golden age of shlocky mecha. Feels like everything today is either literally gay, safe or self aware.
