Valve has been encouraging a gambling mafia - Coffeezilla expose; Valve used legal workarounds to finance a gambling mafia with CSGO skins

Genuinely bad, but I prefer the innovative libertarian sleaze lord (God just look at all the porn on Steam) to whatever investor-driven safe-exploitative shit it is that the rest of the game industry does. Even with this mark against them, Valve is still preferable to the alternative of "Subscribe to pay to subscribe to play a narrow selection of slop on our locked-down OS" or "look at all our giveaways, but we still can't figure out a good UI design."

I want to kick him in the teeth every time he does that fucking robot bit. It's fucking impossible to take anything this retarded grifter says seriously when every other minute its "teehee you WILL watch the robot side character, and you WILL fucking like it!". I don't know if its in this video, I don't care to watch it, now is just a better time than any to say it out loud and put it into the ether.

Also I don't care if retards with burning wallets scam themselves out of all their money. I hate this shit being in games, because it detracts from improving upon gameplay being the devs primary focus and forces them to spend more time getting retards to empty their pockets. At the end of the day however, its still legal and I have no control over how dipshits spend their money.

As for the "but the kids" bullshit, as long as they aren't being preyed upon by predators, I really don't give shit about yours or anyone elses kid or them taking your credit card and racking up a debt. Be a parent, take away their Internet, beat them, I don't care, stop making your crotch spawn my fucking problem and stop using them as a bullshit excuse to browbeat me, you nigger.

The Kiwi take on Steam getting children addicted to gambling for profit is the exact same as the reddit take. "I support Valve having a monopoly on digital distribution of software licenses because I don't want to have to use multiple platforms, therefore anything exploitative they do is okay".

You know, no matter how many times it happens, I'm always amazed at how people will do anything for money and defend the ones who do so. No morality, no principles, nothing that you simply will not do because it's wrong.
And then you sit and wonder why the world's going to shit instead of thinking "hmm, maybe it's because the average modern person is a vapid, materialistic scumbag, and I'm actually part of the problem for not refusing to go along with it".

Exactly. America is currently a "Judeo-Christian" country. Profit above all else.

Religiously I'm opposed to gambling. At the sane time, it seems like The State hasn't done anything to fix what is a profitable venture for Valve. I'm going against the grain: YOUNG kids don't play steam. They're lucky to have a tablet or switch to dick around on. I didn't get steam until I had a real job and a ok laptop lol. Yeah, I was a fucking adult when I got steam. Until then I played on the Xbone and World of Warships on its own launcher. Like the pc is a bit inaccessible for a kid unless they have a 600 dollar laptop minimum if they want to play anything above a VN.

I though it was common knowledge that the russians/cartel use CS skins to launder money.
Also valve already did something, they allow you to mod your game to get whichever skin you want, its not their problem some retarded kid feels like he needs to brag to their friends

Unless they have a zoomer parent with money to fund them a top of the line PC so that they can play nothing but Minecraft and Fortnite on it.

Yes, I've seen this happen.

Again, Xbox. Do I think lootboxes are bad? Yeah. You can solve this by getting them a console and never putting in the credit card info, at least permanently. Use those cards you get at Walmart to put money on the console to get a game if it doesn't have a disc drive. Buying your kid a PC you don't control is bad juju. The first laptop I had as a kid was a i3 shitbox barely capable of running word. I bought that myself because that was what I could afford. Don't enable gambling, especially if you're a ZOOMER parent and know the risks

Yes, that's partially my point. Especially when you can afford to shell out a higher end PC for your kid, particularly when they're playing a game with microtransactions such as Fortnite.

The other part of my point is that it's a given irresponsible parents with too much money are most likely to let their kids do irresponsible things.

I mean it's simple really: if you aren't a out of touch rich parent, CS GO skins shouldn't be a issue. Just have them play fortnite on a Xbox like literally the rest of the kids. They can get steam when they get themselves a computer

So you actually rely on the government to do stuff? If your kid gets groomed and decides to troon out is it the government's fault for not stopping it? The law came into being before any of this was a thing and it will take years to catch up, if ever.
I said from the very start that it's the parents that are in control of their children. You're the one bitching about "bypassing laws". My response to you is "if that's the case, bitch to congress".

I just don't think any company should be held to any sort of reverence. CS:GO cases opened the floodgates. Sure, smile when they decide to not make things against your benefit, SteamOS, Steam Deck, Linux gaming, but all of them are profit motivated at the end of the day. It's already happening with certain games, how even with a huge market for TF2, they don't really want to go back and support it, but they'll happily make Deadlock hero shooter based slop and release more skins for CS2!

Don't be blinded. Companies are out for your cash, not your goodwill.

I'd let a thousand children fall prey to gambling sites before I use the Epic Games Store!

THIS.

There is no difference between lootboxes and card packs, but card games are look at nostalgically so how dare people put an obvious comparison.

I don't get what's the issue with kids being exposed to it. Either let them waste their lunch money on it and realize gambling sucks, or have them steal their dad's credit card and get their shit beaten out of them for it. Both are better alternatives than waiting until the child is an adult and is free to ruin his life.

And without the element of THINK OF THE CHILDREN it's yet another gambling avenue on the web that's already filled with those. Who needs gun skins when gambling cows can waste 1000$ in a minute?
I've been selling CCG stuff for 10+ years now and seeing people hand wringing over digitized loot boxes makes me laugh. The only difference is when cards are sold in the second hand market the companies don't receive a kick back from the sell.

Valve can take to avenues both aren't fun.

First route is the good old legal route and that route is full of quagmire legal bullshit where they have to fund the money to try and take down those website. Try reminder, try because plenty of Countries allow this type of behavior to happen.

Second option, kill all trading for the Counter Strike skins. This will ultimately piss off more people and probably do more damage to there rep in the long run.

So there sticking to the third option, do nothing and hope it just dies off naturally, which kind blew up in there faces when we got those "protests" last week.

Literally anyone into TCG/CCG will tell you that cracking packs is a waste of money. Unless you're buying an entire sealed box, you're throwing your money away. Even then.
