Can't quote Grub but i believe it's mostly rich spoiled people with giant ass game collections that goes on about how bad emulation is, look at Mike Matei and Pat the NES punk. They hate the notion that anybody can play the same games for free. It haunts them so much that even to this day holds that it's not the same thing, like we still lived in Nesticle 0.2 times.

Yes, if you're a young person just beginning in this hobby, just emulate. Much cheaper, almost the same experience.
I'm old and still have the game systems I had as a kid. The stuff I didn't have, like the Turbografx-16, I bought when it was still cheap. I use Everdrives for all these systems because it's easier and I don't need shelves of cartridges taking up space.

Don't pay these scumbags hundreds of dollars for Little Samson.
The little Samson thing is really bad, even the way more common Japanese version is super rare because resellers scalped them up and are selling them almost the same price as the US version. I hope someone gets the rights to make a reprint of tge game to fuck over the scalpers

Mike uses emulation all the time. Ever watched his Sega Master System videos? He has the same No-Intro collections that I do. he doesn't even try to hide it.

I also don't really get those purists that are obsessed with playing that shit on original hardware on old crts.
If you ever wondered why those games look like ass sometimes in emulator, it's because they're meant to be displayed on a CRT TV which smudges pixels in a way that's impossible to replicate on LCD monitors. There's also input lag which is really noticeable when you switch from original hardware to an emulator; I could beat Zelda II blindfolded on emulator but later had serious trouble beating the first palace on hardware because I couldn't time my inputs right with my existing muscle memory. Hardware elitists are snobs but I understand why they might dislike emulation.
Didn't he make some snobby post on X about if you played a game on an emulator, you didn't really beat it?
It was about beating NES games on Switch using rewind.

I don't know, I have never used or cared about Twitter. I'm sure he said shit like that though many times, that sounds like him.

As someone who is a major retro game/culture nerd I am going to have to disagree. While old games do look different on CRT they don't necessarily look better. I also call bullshit shenanigans on your Zelda 2 flexing. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, come to think of it, Didn't Nintendo get busted using emulation lately? Like in their museum/expo in Japan and shit? Also wasn't it Sega that used emulation it for their mini consoles or am i misremembering it? You'd think hardcore gamers would notice if that's the case, doesnt it depend on the TV and crap with the input lag?

You don't understand. Emulation will never give you the same experience as the real console (Big Ryan fan btw)
He actually makes a fair point here, especially for something like PS2 where differences in floating-point calculation means that PS2 emulation will always be slightly off. It's just that he voices in the dumbest possible way.
Interesting to say that. I've actually worked with Minecraft Mods that can do more than double the precision in floating-point calculation. Allowing me to teleport well over 10^308 and so on. But that took almost a decade of research to make it possible though. So I couldn't blame the people behind PS2 emulators not wanting to go through the extra work to increase the bits to make precision accurate to the console versions.

The problem isn't with float precision. The problem is that floating-point numbers are an entrenched agreed-upon standard (IEEE 754) that the CPU in your device almost certainly conforms to - while the CPU in a PS2 (the Emotion Engine) does not. A PS2 emulator would need to get floating-point calculations wrong in exactly the same way an Emotion Engine would to be completely accurate.

In order not to derail further, I'll just say anyone interested should follow this GitHub issue.

Let's get this thread back on track! Ryan is fat and I would not have sex with him. Justin is fat and I would not have sex with him. April is fugly and annoying so I would not have sex with her. James has a great voice and delivery when scripted properly but he is like a deflated balloon without Mike/Kyle/Bootsy. Either retire or fire Slobwave, Bimmy. It's probably too late for either anyway tbh.

Those mini consoles all use emulation and usually run on some sort of linux deviant, that was probably the reason they got hacked so fast. Nintendo's Switch Online services (SNES, NES, Mega Drive etc.) uses emulators as well.

If you ever wondered why those games look like ass sometimes in emulator,
No not really honestly. I don't really spend my time playing games staring at transparency effects and pixel edges.
There's also input lag which is really noticeable when you switch from original hardware to an emulator; I could beat Zelda II blindfolded on emulator but later had serious trouble beating the first palace on hardware because I couldn't time my inputs right with my existing muscle memory.
I dunno sounds like a skill issue to me. I've played through Zelda 2 on console and on emulators and there's nothing in that game that requires any kind of frame perfect inputs that could be affected by whatever basically completely unnoticeable input lag exists using emulators on decent hardware.

Really, the only case I can see for using original hardware is to use original controllers because modern controllers are fairly shitty for retro games, especially Xbox controllers.

I'm kinda surprised no one's tried to do an Old-style AVGN video as a new nerd, kinda like those AI-voice reviews of modern shit like Faith.

Surely there's someone out there that can pull off the old style video format and write a better script than the slobs, right?
There have been a few of those.
