The Ninja Gaiden ninja was actually hilarious, that whole episode fucking kills me.

The bloopers too, you can just feel how much fun they had making it.
Both before James was burned out on the whole Nerd persona and playing games he actually had some fond memories of. Talking about how everybody just called it Ninja Gayden is clearly something that still tickled him.

This last episode was the only one I haven't watched even a second of it. Horse Prince I watched about until the half of it, this one I don't need to watch because I already know more than half of it is going to be a long unfunny skit involving glitch gremlin, Neighbor, bad effects and inanimate objects attacking the Nerd.

I thought the last one (glitch whatever part 2) was the only one I haven't watched at all but I forgot about the horse whatever thing. I guess that makes two now for me, and I have been a fan since the "golden age" of AVGN and watched pretty much everything.

Even Null grudgingly listened to his supporters and restored reactions ("stickers"). Bimmy won't give an inch and won't stop Goatse-ing for Slobwave. Either he is seriously retarded at this point or April is just running the show. Or both.

Did James predict the LA Fires 20 years ago?

While old games do look different on CRT they don't necessarily look better.
I can confirm that games do look way better on a crt, it's like a night and day difference. Old pixel games look awful on lcd monitors and tvs. It's not just old games that look better on crts either, there's certain aspects about modern games that look better on a crt as well. crt screens are great for displaying computer generated textures and I've noticed that the textures in modern games look way more lifelike than when played on a 4k monitor. You'll look at a brick wall or something in a modern 3d game and on a crt it will look like a real lifelike brick wall but on a modern display it just looks like a flat fake texture trying to look like a brick wall. Obviously there are other issues with playing modern games on a crt like the size of text being too small to read, so it's not completely an improvement and it's better to stick with old games on crts for the most part but I find it really interesting seeing how a crt makes modern 3d graphics look better.

You don't understand. Emulation will never give you the same experience as the real console (Big Ryan fan btw)
This is basically just a marketing ploy to get middle aged men who want to relive their childhood nostalgia to shell out hundreds of dollars on video games they could emulate for free.

The first time I ever played Earthbound was on SNES9X in windowed mode on my computer and I had just as great a time if not more then my replays where I had it on the SNES mini with the original controller and much better emulation.

You don't need to buy a 300 dollar CRT and original hardware to enjoy old video games. That's the point I was trying to make. The way the pixels look on the screen is not why people play or enjoy video games we play them because they are fun. Ignore my retarded emulation comparison.

I'm probably in the minority but I actually like old games better on LCD. I'm not a CRT hater or anything though, to each their own.

But this isn't and Emulation thread, this thread is about being The Balls on the Dick!

James is a senior lolcow with a serious hair issue and Slobwave are the Larry and Curly to his Moe. That one guy who hacks movies (I forget his name) can be Curly Joe.

Now excuse me, it's 5:40! I HAVE TO GO!!!!

You don't need 300 bucks CRT to play old games just like you don't need Old Smuggler to get drunk but if you're snobby enough then a $15 jerry can of Black Horse Whisky will not cut it. Fundamentally it's the exact same thing but one is more pleasurable to drink somehow and leaves you with less of a headache later.

I have a raspberry pi emulation console hooked up to a 60 inch LCD tv and never noticed any significant lag or issues playing games on it.

I also grew up playing games on a CRT and don’t really see a big difference. The whole “original console chads vs emulation chuds” argument is autistic on a whole other level.

To be fair, I think James has listened to his audience, at least kind of. You don't see him plugging Rex Viper much these days, the podcast died pretty fast, and he finally had a joke in his episode about being bald. As a whole, I think 2022-24 were better than 2020 or 2021 although he still puts out some real trash every now and then.

Digging deeper into bitching about lag in emulation led me to realize most of the complainers are using Xbox gamepads on Windows wirelessly, so they get what they deserve. Xinput just isn't capable of instant response, good old HID-compatible wired pads work way better. Also, Mac and Linux emulators don't have the same issues in most cases, so clearly, as always, using Microsoft products gives a shitty experience.

James has Larry's hairline and NONE of his comedic talent or warm personality.

Used a wired gamepad under Linux and input lag certainly exists on this setup.

The worst thing is that TECHNICALLY they aren't wrong. We only now are starting to get REALLY accurate SNES emulation, and everything from there is a collection of hacks, not actually emulating things down to the metal.
If the game plays the same whether it's hacks or emulated perfectly exactly who cares?

Linux sucks as much as you allow it to, based on how much you want to suffer to improve it, but it isn't as guaranteed not to work right as Windows and Direct X and usually has lower overhead for polling.

It's not "pooling" but the fact even in perfect conditions you'd described, emulation still leaves you with at least 1 frame of input lag. You won't care if you only played emulation but it will significantly affect your playing experience in games like Zelda 2 requiring precise platforming.

The biggest challenge in Linux emulation was fucking around with system-critical files to make that goddamn gamepad work. Nothing fucking works out-of-the-box under Linux.
