[USIPS] Logo Design Collaboration

Before I finish this in vector format with engraving lines, I have two questions @Null.

1. Do you still need an illustration for the charity? It looks like you have a lot of other submissions if you haven't just hired someone to do it.
2. If you still need a sisyphus illustration, would something like this look good? (granted I haven't finished the hand/feet/boulder or added engraving lines yet though that will be easy)

I like this one cause he has a more realistic greek statue physique instead of the super big roidmoids that have been posted so far.

Took me far more than expected. December is a fucking bitch.
These are the overall ideas; I was looking for a way to add the PSD layered file
or a .rar but it seems I can't and I don't know how to attach it, so I'll email it to Fear Dealer.

I hope this somehow contributes to the initiative.-

This looks pretty good but his arm should be fully extended and reaching underneath the boulder, it doesn't look like he's struggling to lift it up the mountain, it looks like he's resting against it. His hand isn't even fully pressed against it either. He should be leaning forward with the boulder resting on him and not him resting on the boulder. He should look like a chair that's being folded by the rock he's heaving up the mountain.

Also you should elevate the boulder much further up, it's clearly not on the same surface area as Sisyphus and appears to be more beside him. Notice how his feet are on the horizon line of the mountain but the boulder is off to the side.

One last detail, he should have his chin pointed down to his chest, gritting his teeth, squinting his eyes with his eyebrows arched to show he's in agonizing pain with sweat beading down his face. Or even better, have him point his chin in the air to really put emphasis on the agony over the struggle, show some bulging veins on his neck. This man is in literal Hell, he should look like it.

Here's an example video I found from 2008.

These are all too detailed for a logo. I recommend decluttering and simplifying the lines.
That's the same mentality behind the Minnesota flag. "ohhh noo details are too hard it should be flat and simple and recognizable!" and then it'll inevitably become something as unmemorable as this.

Well no, there's a lot of space between what you posted and the current latest version of the USIPS logo. A logo doesn't need to be soulless and boring, but you still want it to be legible when it's shrinked and placed in various places on the website, or when you want to print it on merch or a document, etc.

Null has mentioned that he absolutely wants the more classical engraved look, and we've talked a lot about the proper technique. I recommend something like this era of the Prudential logo. Easier than banknote engraving but still quite nice. It has several different techniques in one. Our Boulder King is simultaneously the rock of Gibraltar AND pushing a rock of Gibraltar, anyway. (It also translates well to later coin dies)

Edit: And an array of all their logos over time from an older post, maybe we can pick an engraving style we like from these?

That's really good. The solid black add shadows without using tons of skritchy lines, which should be used but more sparingly because they're aesthetically pleasing in light application.

Also, I really feel like the emphasis is the character and not the rock. I feel like the rock is usually too big and too emphasized. You can't really do too much with it because the rock is a metaphor for endless suffering and a literal burden. It can't be romanticized, turned into a pro-American statement, etc. It's just a rock.

Really like it! What do you think of indicating the ground beneath the feet?
I removed the ground for now since we had disagreement with the legs
This. It needs to be able to be printed at the top right of official mailers that are printed on a basic bitch black and white printer from Wal Mart.
We can work backwards if need be
I can remove all the engraving and hatching
Or just make another simplified version that will resemble the full one

I have been playing with holy geometry. I made one where he fits a golden spiral of his face and a second where it is a silver spiral around his hand. The golden ratio one feels more.... like a tired, insufferably heavy burden crushing him. Focusing with the face and fitting in the spiral is like he is being constricted. The silver ratio one feels a bit more optimistic to me since it is focused on his hand it opens up the body and legs and lets the face feel more free.

Ladies and gentlemen, put away your pencils and tablets, I've made the perfect logo for this.

As you can see, the boulder being pushed up the hill represents struggle, and how hard it is to keep all the internets safe. It cleverly references Sissyphus and his eternal struggle with the boulder, if you've ever heard of that. If you look closely, however, you'll see that I've actually replaced Sissyphus with a kiwi, head held high and adorable little bird feet stuck firmly to the ground as he pushes upward. He safeguards the internets from anyone who would step on and hurt it. He is a true, red-blue-and-white-blooded American, thus I very artfully made the text blue and red (the background is already white to match the colors of the American flag).

You're welcome. I take payment in Google Play cards and Hawk Tuah coin only.

I just really quickly added that. I can't draw like you, but I think it's more well rounded and it expresses the struggle some more. I have also slightly extended the mountain, making it look steeper and hinting at what is to come.

This is one of those things where it can be a "why not both" situation. You can have a more stylized version of the symbol, and then a more basic version. The stylized version going on posters, TV ads and wat not, while the more basic version goes on mass mailers, official letterhead and other such things.

As an example, the National Rifle Association.
