He really doesn't have "explosives experience". He was just a radio and intel guy. At most, he would have blown a couple of satchel charges in his career by putting a blasting cap in some C4.

The really scary dudes would be an EOD tech that deploys with SOF or a SOF that works as an instructor or at least completed an advanced demolition school. Those dudes, if they wanted, could make a really really dangerous car bomb if they wanted and can have access to the materials.

And besides, the dude was probably actually stupid. I mean, just look at his fucking face and nicotine stained teeth.


Still, I wouldn't be happy, if I was Elon or Trump, to know that there are people in Special Forces that will go this far. Perhaps the next guy who tries to attack them is actually competent and a good sniper/bomb maker.

I should have reworded, didn't mean to make him sound like a bomb expert, but he would have been around people blowing shit up at least sometimes given his MOS codes (especially 18Z). His work with RAS might have occasionally dipped a toe into bomb disposal but unlikely and he was only there a few months. As other people in the thread have said, there are literal kids in the 3rd world who can make a better boom and even though he was a mostly intel guy I am shocked that this attempt was so poor.

I'd be afraid of this guy more than of a sniper or a bomb maker. Imagine optic fiber FPV drones he could use in assassination. Unjammable, fast, agile, perfect terminal guidance, can't be shot down by snipers and bodyguards with pistols. Plus, the assassin can record the whole thing in 1080@60FPS.
Using bodyguards as a human shield also won't do anything against 2kg explosive charge.

I am shocked that this attempt was so poor.

A theory I have, is that this was just an immolation suicide with extra steps. Instead of burning himself in front of an embassy, he created a crappy "bomb" inside a Cybertruck and committed suicide in a shocking manner in front of Trump Tower.

As to why, well, Trump has been talking about cutting support for Ukraine (we still don't know for sure); JD Vance tweeted that "Zelensky will stop getting his allowance" in a giddy and distasteful way. It probably drove him crazy and wanted to send a message.
