They're going to have video from the cybertruck and from random cars at each of the Supercharger stations he stopped at very soon, showing him getting out to plug the car in.
This will disprove your dumb theory

This is the one piece I was struggling with as the blast did not seem powerful enough to kill, there wasn’t a detonation as such. So IMO he lit the fuse, then did he wait for it to go bang or pull the trigger first, who knows.

Yeah, I thought he just burned to death but it would be hard to react instinctively and exit the car.

Did anyone hear a gunshot? Was one ever recorded? If he pulled up, set off a bomb and blew his brains out, all that should have been pretty audible and noticeable.

There were multiple popping sounds because of the secondary fireworks explosion, I couldn´t say if there was a discernible gunshot but it is quite likely noone would hear it.
