I don't intend to derail the thread from the topic of burgers or booze. I just find the mainstream narrative around Sally Hemings misleading.

Sally Hemings was an "octoroon" (⅞ths White, ⅛ Black). She was the half-sister of Thomas Jefferson's wife Martha. They were both daughters of John Wayles (a wealthy Virginian). Martha was older than Sally. There are no portraits of Sally. The only two contemporary descriptions of her mention she was "light-skinned" and had long straight black hair.

Martha died in 1782. Jefferson brought Sally to France in 1787. In 1789 Sally became pregnant while in France. Slavery was abolished in France at the time. Sally could have stayed in France a free non-slave. Sally chose to travel back to America and live at Monticello with Jefferson.

Jefferson freed all of Sally's children (1/16th Black, 15/16th White). Of the 4 children who made it to adulthood 3 passed into White society. Madison Hemings chose to identify as a "free black" and moved to Ohio with his "mixed-race" wife. Madison Hemings' sons served in the Civil War as White soldiers.

The majority of Sally Hemings descendants are White. After 10 generations (~200 years) a descendant has 1024 tenth-gen "grandparents" (assuming no inbreeding). A modern Black descendant of Sally Hemings received ~1/8000th of their "Blackness" from Sally, and ~15/8000ths of their "Whiteness" from Sally & Jefferson.

My point being that any modern Black descendant is Black because more Black was added. I'm sure there are Black descendants of many famous Whites from over 200 years ago. I avoided mentioning Thomas Jefferson possibly not beeing the father, since the post is already long (and I lean towards it being him).

Because it's not the strongest argument, since I can envision a scenario in the industry is strictly regulated that these abuses would mostly go away. I cannot envision a scenario where the overall social harm from porn, especially to children and teenagers who are introduced to it, goes away.

Because you have zilch idea what you're talking about. Prohibition was already enacted in most states and counties before the 19th amendment. Therefore there was a huge drop as these laws were passed, followed by a bigger drop as it became illegal nationally, and then a rise as alternate distribution paths became used. It's painfully obvious if you understand anything.

Like so many things, the idea is good but the imementation is rife with fraud.

You cap H-1B visas at 2,500 per year, making them much more competitive and eliminating the chance for the visa to be abused. America's biggest problems revolve around doubling-down on failed ideas and looking the other way when a good idea is being ignored or manipulated to commit fraudulent acts. Cap the visa and take the 2,500 smartest foriegners from their homelands each year.

On the H-1B thing, here in Bongland there got to be a shortage in tradesmen, especially plumbers,as the government thought it was a great idea if they tried to get half the population to go to university even though a good chunk of people really had no business being there.

This lead to a massive increase in how much a man with a trade could earn especially plumbers.

What happened then was there was a massive uptick in young men getting apprenticeships, which was slowly bringing some sanity to wages and letting the traditional working class have a great lifestyle.

Then the government realised you could just attract a bunch of potato monkeys over from Eastern Europe to do it for half the price and it hit a lot of people.

It really fucked over what factory jobs we had left as what used to be hard work but with decent pay became minimum wage jobs employing only 80 IQ dead eyed Poles.

It also created this perverse environment were there were so many graduates that you needed a degree for entry level office jobs, leading to graduates from southern Europe flocking in and starting to depress wages across those sectors.

At least we had Brexit, which made things better for a bit (for workers, despite what the media tells you.) But now both parties what to open the flood gates to the third world to get the cheap labour back.
