UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Are they all rotting on the shelves too?
That seems to be happening at every supermarket I've been to.
I’ve noticed that too. Veg goes off really quick. I’ve stopped getting them from Lidl or Aldi. Waitrose on the other hand is still good. Plus your better that the filthy proles if you shop there.

Although, fruit and veg shops FTW!

The Tory cope of "We'd love to talk about immigration but Enoch Powell made it too toxic" repackaged for the 2020s.
"We would have investigated it, but the povos and louts also wanted it looked into, so clearly we couldn't".

I would unironically have this man, his parents and his children put to death if I were in power.

The Tories are just as, if not more guilty then Labour on the topic of these Muslim rape gangs. When the uprising (in Minecraft) happens, they will hang with the rest (in Minecraft).

Also couldn't find any carrots near me,
Are they all rotting on the shelves too?
Lots of empty shelves in the produce/chilled areas. Not sure if ordering incompetence of vulture-like shoppers buying too much shit.
I know I'm lucky but binning off supermarkets where I can has helped a lot
I used to be the same; I would walk into town (that still had an old school market) for meat and eggs from the butchers, fresh fruit from the greengrocers, then take a mooch to a supermarket for the other bits. It worked well.

Blog post: unfortunately I'm back in the UK for work in a shite area so I'm stuck with the supermarkets. When the weather clears i'll either fuck off back home or move area. How's Wales and Cornwall this time of a year?

Hip hip cheerio and whatever the fuck you brits tell each other.

I'm seeing an uptick of mentions about the whole "police did not want to be called racist so left thousands to be raped by 'Asians'", I thought that was a pretty much screamed secret for at least a decade now. Would any of you fine gentlemen ming putting me up to speed on why this is resurfacing now?
It's pip pip cheerio, get it wrong again and we'll send some scousers to your location.

It’s resurfaced this week because the sentencing remarks have been published from a case in Oxford and, for the first time, people are aware of the horrifying extent of the rape and torture of these young girls.

It’s here for anyone with the stomach to read it:

I was looking at something on street view today and noticed you can actually go back in time all the way to 2008 and look at the same streets. Take a look for yourselves in any city and you can see such a stark contrast between 2008 and today. It's not just the road markings and graffiti being less prevalent but there's much less rubbish in the streets, the buildings are generally cleaner and obviously maintained. Plus, there's significantly fewer chain stores and takeaways on major shopping streets instead being replaced with more 'British' shops.

It's almost sad to see because if you live in any major city here then you get so used to the decay from bankrupt councils and the effects of importing so many migrants, going back in time so far is almost jarring.

This is a brexit thing alongside other food quality concerns (swimming pool flavoured chicken soon!), there was some euro regulation before that every F&V product had to have clearly visible and actually adhered to use by dates on it that got dumped so immediately everyone jumped at the chance to cut some corners and now most places go off of "manual" quality checks to maximise inventory which means that the only thing standing between your basket and some very fluffy berries is how much attention the morning wagie pays (yes year old pineapples do slip through, always check yourself).
They still actually have use by dates on it's just obscured as something called an L code that nobody ever actually looks at because otherwise waste jumps up 50%.

It is fundamentally different to the NHS which is lazy, sloppy, useless, and totally y averse to change. Until the NHS accepts all of its huge flaws and that it needs to change it is fucked.
There are pockets of NHS which are well run. It all flows down from whoever’s little kingdom it is. I won’t say where, but we’ve had dealings recently (the aged Ps) with a few units who have been very well run indeed. Clearly carefully chosen staff, a definite skew towards British and one or two nationalities only, staff invested in the job, and polite. None of the usual Kafkaesque stuff. No bored third worlders abusing patients. Units clean as a whistle, and well run. The culture of these little kingdoms depends on the lead admins and the lead consultants. If you can park yourself in, or run, one of these little fiefdoms, life is grand.

Unfortunately they only exist in some of the ‘backward’ parts of our fair isle, but they do exist. The contrast with other parts of rNHS is stark, to say the least. By and large, it is a terrible state,

Elon has some thoughts on us, cross posting for the Elon thread: Edit: he’s agreeing that the king should dissolve parliament)

It's real. To be fair, he just agreed.

View attachment 6817081

What is he doing? If Elon was just some guy, it would mean nothing, but he's the owner of a global social media app and a national political figure with huge global influence. This is a American citizen soon to be part of the government arguably interfering with the affairs of other countries.

I've said before, the focus and seething on Twitter always overshadowed the fact he has serious flaws as an industrialist and as a person.
Me literally spitting my tea out at the dumb nature of it:
Now this is fucking retarded. To the Burgers out there what would happen is parliament would say no and then the fucking army would have to chose a side. It’s that fucking serious constitutionally. We’ve had a civil wars over this.

Someone in the Trump camp needs to have a word with him as doing shit like this to your closest military and intelligence sharing allies is dumb beyond all comprehension.

It’s fun when he’s trolling Starmer with FACTS and LOGIC but this is just reckless and brain damaged.

This was on the Grauniad, this morning, talking about the migrants, and I dunno, man, maybe I'm being cynical, but doesn't this image look a bit 'staged', for want of a better word?

The inclusion of the baby bottle is just a little too perfect. Take that away and all I see is a pair of shoes, clearly belonging to an able-bodied man of fighting age, who should've stayed in his own fucking country to try and make it better, rather than crawling into ours and actively making it worse.

I know it's meant to evoke something in me, but I literally just don't care. Fuck off, we're full.
Imagine how many people didn't get raped or murdered because they took the Allah express to Atlantis
