A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The inclusion of the baby bottle is just a little too perfect. This is reminiscent of the photograph of the dead Syrian/Albanian child on a beach that photographers were salivating over in their rush to make it front page news in 2015 at the height of the migrant crisis. Despite a child of that age being a 1 in 10,000 occurrence in the dinghy immigration of recent years. It's mostly young men.

Excellent post. I'd add to that list a case in Oxford where an abused girl took a taxi to a social centre but couldn't pay the fare. The social workers didn't pay despite having a duty of care to do so and the rapists came back, collected her, took her back to their hovel before abusing her some more.

Also, I may be wrong on this (so call me a retard if so) but I think the kebab story is an urban legend. It originates from a very poor joke that was used as evidence by the prosecution of a man who was later acquited. The case collapsed due to the police force messing up the evidence and other cases of malpractice. The trial collapsed without any hard evidence of the 'meat in the kebab' story other than the 'joke'. But that's all I remember.

It doesn't detract from the rest of the list which I believe is accurate. There is case study after case study of abuses that most people don't know about, but anyone who discussed it openly was publicly and socially defenestrated. It's a massive scandal.

Kinda forgetting that Reform isn't a political party. It's a plc, and Farage owns 53% of it (gotta top up his pension somehow, right?). Otherwise, I agree completely.

More accurate to say that it is a political party that is (or, rather, was) structured as a limited company rather than an unincorporated association.

Farage actually upped his ownership to 60% not long before the September meeting where I believe the members voted to become a company limited by guarantee, with no shareholders at all.

Reform being a limited company means Farage can never be removed as party leader, there's no vote of no confidence or anything like that, he has essentially direct control over filling all the other party roles with whoever he likes, but these board members cannot suggest policies to him. Also, the organisational board are distinct financial entities from the company itself which is not true of regular parties - so Farage can take out as much debt as he likes in the name of Reform or use it to handle financial donations etc and it's legally not him doing it, so he has no obligation to repay any debts when he's done or use donations for their intended purpose. Imo I've said before but he is just a financial grifter he doesn't give a fuck about Britain politically.
I really liked the point made on a previous page about how he acts totally differently between the UK and when he's 'representing clacton on the world stage' (US).

A long list of reasons. One that often goes overlooked is that the longer they delay the harder it is to prove anything. Perpetrators die or become harder to find, ditto for victims, officials involved retire and fuck off, records end up disposed of etc.

Honestly you could write thousands of words about the topic but the long and short is that it's easier for them not to give a shit than it is to do anything. They're also almost all complicit in one way or another with the ruination of the country in manners not relating to this sort of thing but that have ties to stuff that enables this such as being in the pockets of oligarchs, NGOs, special interest groups and so on. Some of whom would inevitably have the finger pointed at them by a properly done investigation which then widens into the question of where else this lot influence governmental policy.

The sad truth is there's unlikely to be a riot. If tomorrow a report came out that showed undeniable proof that Kier Stamer personally decided to let children get raped, by people targeting them because of their ethnicity, and did so because he believed it was better for his personal ambitions there would not be a riot because at this point that is essentially the story already. Sort of like how there is not a riot in American over the current presidential party specifically wielding the law as a cudgel against their foes while pardoning their own criminals of unspecified crimes.
