I still like the idea of a fishhook/bait rating. It lets you call someone out without seeming mad and is an easy disengage from any other form of interacting with someone who's trying to derail a convo (including ignoring, which can prompt someone to continue to try and bait out a response). Alternatively, a "silly" rating for when someone is just acting silly or posting something silly, which could include baiting, but can have a lot of other subtexts and be generally more versatile.

Edit: I saw Null’s post on why the off-topic react was removed, which makes sense. That said, I think it would be a good idea to have a way to say “That’s silly/that’s bait”, since the meaning is more broad than just “off-topic”, even though it could be used that way.

I wish there was something for the times a post makes you really laugh. The thumbs up just makes me think of talking to dad on facebook.

Also, what is the TMI sticker image supposed to be? Is there a legend for the stickers someplace?

I think "Lunacy" should be a neutral rating, as I see it often used as if it's one. Like "Horrifying" is now.

I agree, but it also kind of doesn't matter any more. Nobody's going to get enough lunacy-by-proxy ratings to push their account into the negatives, which is the only thing you can see now anyway.

My suggestion for fixing the current ratings dilemma. No updoot,no downdoot, no numbers. Only mustard that lets you know when a thread has activity aside from posting.
EDIT: I probably should identify my idea better. It's not visible to anyone aside from the person that receives it and it's not quantified. it just has it's own designated button like a react and a tab where the reactions received used to be.

I still don't get why he did what he did in the first place, back with the first deprecation. The whole system was admittedly autistic, but it was (and I would submit is) harmless autism.

If you're going to twist yourself into knots to disable sections of the site while retaining the ability to leave a (meaningless) reaction, just get rid of the reactions.

The simplest answer is better. People will hate it, but you never let that stop you in the past. Josh just get rid of reactions altogether rather than introducing more complicated junk into your website's design.

As an aside, it was pretty low to smack down one of your enterprising users that was just trying to have some fun with programming and your website. They're only doing exactly the kind of stuff you do and were stretching their talent to see if they could accomplish something.

editing this in. Dang! You've really gone and made the forum harder for me to use. I don't remember which posts I wanted to check up on and I haven't logged in in several days. Really bad QoL decision, man. Get rid of them or don't but don't do this half-step crap. I do not like the bookmark system as it is clunky.

The reactions are tied to the highlights system. Get rid of stickers and that system would break too.
