The Kiwi Farms userscripts - AKA Autistically fixing the reaction system that Null broke

You could spread the scraping process over a couple of days, any posterior updates are trivial to add up.
sure you could scrape over time with multiple IPs and multiple accounts but that would be too autistic even for me. I'm pretty sure scraping is against the rules somewhere too

Reactions: The Saltening
You have trained yourself to use a basic web forum in the single most retarded way possible. It is so incredibly low intelligence I don't even feel bad for you. It genuinely is outside my realm of comprehension. I don't know how you did this to yourself.

If you want to propose an alternative that is not contingent on desperately and continuously tracking your reddit karma, go for it.

Here's my suggestion, where you will say I'm retarded, a nigger, and should kill myself, but:

Give us back the reactions received function, but strip out where it says what reaction was given. Just have it say "X reacted to Y post" without any mention of the sticker, or anything else. You could even take it a step further and make it aggregate. "Users have reacted to Y post since your last visit" so we don't even see who or how many individual people reacted to the post. Like most of us said, we couldn't care less about the stickers, or the karma, or how many people responsed, etc... it has literally nothing to do with the stickers, it's a useful navigational tool, and that's it.

It seems like what a lot of us were looking for is something that let us know when an existing thread was becoming more active, not just receiving more responses. That adds up. I have gone out of my way to find videos of fat chicks dancing at least once because someone reminded me of a post I made several years back. If I hadn't seen that reaction I never would have remembered it at all.

Exactly, and I can't remember the exact details but I remember something explaining that post rating is a way of community policing, to let someone know of low-quality posts without alerting the mods for every mouthbreather in the thread while maintaining post quality. Jannies can't clean up everyones' messes. Don't use it instead of the Report button, but it has a purpose.
I don't care about the stickers and I always make a new post to tell somebody I thought their post was dumb, I just don't want to be constantly curating a watchlist of the threads I'm currently interested in, since literally every thread on Kiwi Farms either dies after a week or so, or continues indefinitely with a group of obsessive spastics forming a little clique in it and making up retarded shit to jerk each other off.

How are we supposed to do it? Reactions Received is the objectively best way to navigate the website. You can see which threads are popping off in real time without being bothered by notifications when you aren't interested, and you have a really convenient way to pop back in at the point you left off, and then when you lose interest and stop posting in it the reactions die down a day or two later. Sometimes you'll even get reminded of a really funny thread you liked from four years ago.
>go to subforum
>threads that are on top of list are recently bumped
>click thread
>it automatically puts you where you left off

I never look at my reactions received and manage to navigate the forum just fine through just looking at the front page and subforums and notifications that show people replying to me.

I don't understand why its weird to you that people want to gauge the reaction to their posts. For me the whole point of posting to a forum is to engage with other people, is that not the case for you?

Am I simply supposed to go back and manually check the posts I care about and ignore the others? Alternatively do only quotes/tags count? Again, is it really that weird that I'm interested in that information?

Manually clicking threads from the subforum index? What is this, 2003?

I mean, I'll do it. It still beats using the watch threads feature, but damn it's a throwback.
Yeah, that's pretty much the classic way to navigate forums like this.

That said, it works better on small-medium sized forums. KF is much larger than those classic forums of yore except maybe Something Awful.

Ain't that what you do normally?
Check subforums for what's active? Look at reacts to see what's happening with old stuff/anything that got rezzed?

This only applies if the majority of your activity is in the main threads.

Personally, I like getting reminders of very old threads with minimal activity, the best way that happens is through the reactions areas, and I know I'm not alone in feeling this way - it's not fair to disregard that it does have a use.

Which re-raises the point we all made last year during the Stickercaust: all the "better solutions" we're supposed to use require more clicks and more navigation than the features being nuked. And they don't always get you the same results.

Don't know if anyone has touched on this in the thread, but if we're going total sticker death, then fix the bookmarks already. They've been broken for more than a year at this point. I'm tired of not being able to sort them out and ending up with multiple ones in the same page because trying to remove them in the menu boots you to the front page every time.

Why even have features if they're going to be removed out of spite? It makes the site very unfun.
