Post Ratings Discussion

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.

Should we have a fish hook rating?

I think the new page is close to a good compromise, it would be nice if it showed if the rating was positive or negative so you can see if people think your post was retarded but it's better than the error screen so I'll take it

I still don't get why he did what he did in the first place, back with the first deprecation. The whole system was admittedly autistic, but it was (and I would submit is) harmless autism.
Because people would circlejerk about points and start shitfests with other users over negrates.
Null should negrate the script author's every single post, that would be highly effective to prove his point I'm sure (and also funny)

I guess the main reason is that someone found a work around to the reaction score. And he seems to have a real hard on against it. And I can understand why, because it promotes farming in parts of the forum that don't actually contribute to the core goal of the website.

As for the disdain for everything reaction related when it comes to navigating the site, I am not sure. I guess that when you have hundreds of sycophants rating your every posts, it's easy to dismiss it as being a useless ego tripping tool. I don't really agree with this view, but it might just be me.

Imo, best is to just stfu about it. Further discussion about stickers is not going to lead anywhere but more frustration from dear leader.

At least I can use it as a way to quickly bounce between threads I am currently engaged in.

Checking your reactions compulsively is indeed dopamine retardation but I also think it's useful to know if your post was well received or not.
If I was in charge of the site (thankfully I'm not, the stress would kill me) I would remove the reactions page and I would add a positive/negative symbol next to each post in the "Your content page".

The reactions are tied to the highlights system. Get rid of stickers and that system would break too.
The highlight system seems broken and a bit schizophrenic anyway.

Just like with the cheese debate, Josh is missing the point. He has his one idea of what the problem is and isn't listening to other, nuanced opinions on the matter.

My suggestion for fixing the current ratings dilemma. No updoot,no downdoot, no numbers. Only mustard that lets you know when a thread has activity aside from posting.

We're about 1 degree seperation from the mustard hypothetical which is close enough.

Stickers were perfectly fine until jannies decided they didn't like people "brigading", but if you're mad about getting a lot of bad stickers then it's on you and not anyone else to begin with. The current rules are only meant to protect overly sensitive retards whom the site by its own premise is designed to make fun of.

The best thing to do is to roll back absolutely everything, but with that in mind there's probably other reasons this was done.

But that's none of my business ☕.

If you're going to twist yourself into knots to disable sections of the site while retaining the ability to leave a (meaningless) reaction, just get rid of the reactions.
This isn't about reactions any more. This is about site navigation, personal feed, and tracking your own site history. Xenforo sucks for all those, the stickers and the notifications were an intuitive workaround to approximate them. Now Null is nuking them because he thinks idiots are chasing karma, and he's too autistic to understand emergent user behavior in response to roadblocks.

It is a little because his closing statement was again that sneedforo won't contain reactions.

Now we all know sneedforo will release after HL3, GTA6 and the next Crash Bandicoot by Naughty Dog, but still, if he ever pulls his finger out his arse they are on life support.

There is nothing we can do to convince him, but it's a good way for the community to engage with people without spamming. What does it matter if I get a little dopamine hit for a post I made that other people liked? That's why I bothered to post it anyway.

Ackshually he said "there will be no sticker notifications". Which is fine, especially since notifications are a massive table that slows down site recovery. Hopefully their sacrifice appeases his bloodlust. But the reactions themselves are a core way to interact with posts, going back to Web 1.0 forums and evolving into every single website now. Nuking them will kill the enjoyment of the site and drop the quality of posts.

If Sneedforo has robust site navigation, personal feeds, and history tracking, then maybe things like the Reactions Received page become unnecessary. But just getting "watched threads page that works" isn't going to cut it.

oh yeah so he did my bad

I don't see why people can't use the site in any way they want if they're not infracting on the culture enough to be muted, banned or triangled but I do understand the joy in making peoples lives harder and see them mald

I am disgusted by this reaction. I have no sympathy. You are using the site in the most retarded way if you track site activity by stickers. You are a braindead dopamine zombie if you are refreshing that fucking page every 20 seconds to see if anyone rated your posts dipshit.
Fuck you @Null.

These people are your fans and financial backers and you consistently take them for granted. It isn't up to you how a person uses a product once it is in their hands.

Make changes all you want. Block features. Whatever. But do not keep insulting your users you absolute knuckle dragger.

You are the kind of user he hates. If you are posting for points, then you are just taking up space. He wants people to post only the most informative or highest quality shitposts for no rewards or incentive once so ever. Granted, it's hard to tell if your post is interesting or entertaining to the community without reactions, so IDK what he is going to do to incentivize better posts.
not a bad idea but you'd also need a "threads you've posted in that have become active again" page to recreate the entire functionality
That is supposed to be the watched feature.

My issue with the watched threads is the basic sorting, whatever is most active recently stays on the top, while slower threads get quickly buried down the list if you have a lot of threads you watch. Otherwise, you need to find threads you were engaged in manually, which gets annoying. Ideally, we can have a notification for threads you have commented in recently. That way we don't need to overfill the watched feature and are able to keep up with threads that are either short-lived (like news article) or only have a temporary interest in (current lolcow drama, or hobby threads).

No not for points to entertain others or be insightful. The stickers are just a sign it was a success. I can see how you thought the other way around from my wording though.

Just because a person owns the forum does not mean he owns the community.

It's a subtle but an extremely important distinction to make.

Just because a person owns the forum does not mean he owns the community.

In Ye Olden Dayes of Teh Interwebbes, people who were pissed off enough at a forum owner would just go off and make their own, with blackjack and hookers. But of course, this is a special place, and most of us are not hormonal teen girls and chainsmoking wine moms trying to create the best forum ever to discuss the latest Chicago Hope episodes and ship our favorite characters. Ah, those were simpler times.
