I think the thing about Cruelty Squad is that it became circlejerked amongst the edgy contrarian leftist as some deep statement about capitalism. How it's one of the real art game amongst the rare few 'meaningful games' (Deus Ex, Metal Gear Solid, Disco Elysium) and that other video games are comparable to funko slop. But what I really feel about Cruelty Squad is that it's like Young British Artists of videogames, that wave of ugly contemporary 'shock art' that started in the 80s-90s with its obsession with blood, guts, trash, and how deep it is to use it to talk about how bad our world is and our mortality in it... It's effective for delivering its message for a while but now it got boring because it doesn't offer any hope, and I think hope is pretty important now even though it doesn't look realistic. Because we've been submerged in ugly filth as 'good art' for so long.I never took Cruelty Squad as troon-adjacent. It's a nice game with hidden secrets & mechanics and hits the spot the same way the original hitman trilogy did. It's plot is interesting with the whole concept of the value of life being so trivialized that it's worth is now negative and their society constantly debases themselves with biomods and other noxious drugs. Not super deep, but things to think about. The gnosticism stuff is a nothing burger and is just there because it sounds cool, much like 90's anime.
You'd think with troons being so SMART, the setting would be a bit on the nose for them. Then again, the whole idea of having an visually unappealing game with old school mechanics and exploits is something that only a male would be interested in...
I went to a photography course, my teacher is an old boomer but he made this joke that when he was young it's easy to be 'deep' in art. Just go to cemetery and take photos about death and stuff.
Even Disco Elysium that's basically leftist wall of text meme in game form still offers hope for the world. (And it has no troon characters, somehow pooners love this game though)
And about troons not getting the point of that game. Well, if they get the point they wouldn't have r/traaaa and self aware degeneracy memes, troons can understand how much their transitioning is due to alienation but they just revel in it
