I think you’re right. Will also say this; personality disorders are as old as the hills, but how they manifest I bet varies with the culture. The changes in our culture over the last thirty or so have made individuals like this much worse.
A hundred years ago, someone like Liz would be reviled, not feted. If from a poor family they’d end up dead from the consequences of their actions. And if from a ‘decent’ family they’d likely be shoved out of sight in an asylum. The only way someone like that would be able to operate with impunity would be if they had serious money or power and even then, the black sheep royal son would have a tard wrangler and be kept out of the way.
Since we decided that any shaming of perverted behaviour is unfashionable, people like Liz are able to amplify their perversions, and since we got the internet they’re able to amplify further by meeting up with others. Behaviour that was completely taboo and unspeakable is now unable to be criticised. The end result is that the monsters society breeds now get zero social feedback to stop their behaviours. People who want to stop them are attacked. They can meet up with other perverts, and as we all know
paraphilias cluster.
We are creating monsters, and have removed all the brakes and checks and balances that used to keep them in check.
