War Trump Won’t Rule Out Military Taking Greenland, Panama Canal - President-elect threatens Denmark with tariffs over Greenland

President-elect Donald Trump said he would not promise to avoid a military confrontation over his desire to bring Greenland or the Panama Canal under US control.

“I can’t assure you on either of those two, but I can say this, we need them for economic security,” Trump said at a press conference Tuesday at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, when asked if he could assure other nations he would not resort to economic or military coercion to achieve those aims.

“I’m not going to commit to that,” Trump added.

Trump also said he would use “high-level” tariffs to persuade Denmark to give up Greenland, which is a self-ruling territory of the country.

“People really don’t even know if Denmark has any legal right to it but if they do, they should give it up because we need it for national security,” Trump said. “That’s for the free world, I’m talking about protecting the free world.”

The remarks came after Trump earlier suggested he’d look to expand US influence in the Western Hemisphere, including by changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, escalating a feud with a major neighboring trading partner and ally.

“We’re going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring that covers a lot of territory,” Trump said. “What a beautiful name and it’s appropriate,” he added.

Trump also said he would use “economic force” to compel Canada to become the 51st state in the US, a development he has repeatedly floated in recent weeks. Trump said the US subsidizes Canada and doesn’t need their products, including cars and milk.

“We basically protect Canada,” Trump said. “We’re spending hundreds of billions a year to take care of Canada. We lose in trade deficits.”

Trump did not detail how he would go about achieving that change or provide more details on his plans.

The incoming president assailed Mexico during the press conference, saying the country was taking advantage of the US in trade and was beset by massive problems, highlighting violence linked to drug gangs.

“We have a massive deficit with Mexico, and we help Mexico a lot. They’re essentially run by the cartels, and we can’t let that happen,” Trump said. “Mexico is really in trouble, a lot of trouble, very dangerous place, and we’re going to be announcing a future date. Pretty soon we’re going to change because we do most of the work there, and it’s ours.”

Trump has vowed to take a tougher stance against Mexico and Canada in his second term, threatening the countries with new tariffs if they do not do more to stem the flow of migrants and illegal drugs across US borders.

Somehow, annexing two foreign nations will help decrease inflation, gas and egg prices, just like he promised!
It sounds like something a dictator would threaten to distract his country from real problems.
Trump's job is to wage culture wars and fuel the media machine with daily dumbass quotes to act offended by, meanwhile Musk, Zuckerberg, Bezos, Ramaswamy and the rest of the silicon valley tech sphere run the country roughshod and make the most profit possible within the next 4 years.

I really, really think that invading Greenland would be extremely stupid and I have no idea why Drumpf keeps going on about it. There are so many issues facing the USA just now and none of them can be solved by annexing part of a sovereign democracy which is 99% frozen wasteland. I know there's minerals and oil under the ice but I'm not convinced that there's an economic case for extracting them at this point in time. I don't doubt that the US military could take Nuuk in an afternoon, but the Greenlanders are morally and legally entitled to self-determination.

I think it's more an attempt to gauge support from other nations. When Trump talked about annexing Canada, there was a significant proportion of Canadians who supported the idea. Remember, in his first term, his "Rocketman Kim" tweets ended up with North and South Korea lead to talks between the two countries. T-Money makes these kinds of loud bloviations all the time to test the waters.

First we had Day of the Rake. Now we have Day of the... Greenland? Anybody here got any good names for this future scenario?
They have by far the highest suicide rate in the world and a below replacement, declining birth rate, in addition to an already low population that is also aging, if you wait long enough the problem will take care of itself because I doubt you could even get the necessary poojeet/Filipino/chink/Muslim/beaner replacement workers to go there when they have so many cushier options to choose from. If they could lure in the most desperate of third world people, at that point Greenland would cease to have any sort of cultural identity anyway and just be an even more depressing resource extraction station full of foreigners with no connection to the place, so it would be ripe for absorption. Day of the...Gas Huffing Eskimo? Day of the Jerry Can? lol

Greenland has been a perpetually unprofitable shithole that Denmark only feigns support in controlling. I say we take it and make those faggot Danes seethe.

Name three differences why he should care about their supposed "differences". I'll be waiting here
1. They speak completely different languages
2. They live in completely different countries with different geographies and climates
3. One has nothing to do with Greenland

1. They speak two different incomprehensible forms of German.
2. Denmark is a flat country with windmills on the north side of Germany, Netherlands is a flat country with windmills on the west side of Germany.
3. One has nothing to do with Greenland.
Not sure I see that much of a difference, beyond the Dutch being taller and taking more than 6 hours to lose to Germans.

I'm liking this timeline.

Trump wants to add shoulders to the US (Canada) and add a second arm (Greenland) to match the existing one (Alaska). He is leaving the colon (Mexico and Central America) alone for now and just wants to add a stent (Panama Canal) above the colostomy bag (South America).

Phase two will involve using the entire US nuclear arsenal to nuke the North Pole and cause a massive volcano to form a giant (YUUUUGE) volcanic mountain (the head). It will be there he sets up his throne to observe the workings of mankind like a modern Olympus. Occasionally he will send out messages through his intermediary (Hermes/Musk) or notice some porn star he descends from New Olympus to grab by the pussy, possibly dressed as a swan.

Greenland isn't important due to being an economic powerhouse, its important due to providing complete coverage to US from all sides. Alaska protects the west and greenland is supposed to protect the east making the US unassailable from all sides.

If a war betwen superpowers breaks out greenland is gonna be extremely important for the US.

Except for a massive and extremely important US base (Thule/Pituffik).
We already have that. Why annex Greenland, thus making the US responsible for its protection and administration when we could simply maintain the decades-old status quo at a discount?

I could see the rationale were it some long-term plan to stake a claim to the arctic, but that's not how it's being presented or understood?

Complete coverage except the South, of course. Inexplicably.
