The DC-10s are actually quite nimble and do a lot of mountain California firefighting, but they are in the southern hemisphere this time of year. It’s not fire season yet, and I didn’t realize they wintered in OZ. Still, there are plenty of tankers and planes out right now, including Super Hercules, just check flight radar 24, you’ll see.Did you miss the part about the high winds in the area that are what making the blaze so bad? Those tanker DC10s have to fly low and slow to dump that water where it needs to go. The winds that are helping fire consume everything on those hills are high enough that the planes can't safely fly where they need to be.
