Yeah, these fires are rolling natural 1s while also running a shitty, environmental-based build. The Delta Smelt isn't a direct cause, but indicative of environmental laws making sure that California can't even try to protect itself from drought or wildfires. Then we happened to have a dry winter with Santa Ana winds making it much worse than usual, but this sort of thing was going to happen during the summer if not today.

To be fair they don't have a choice. One of the richest neighborhoods in the world just burned down because of decades of Democratic stupidity in California -- including outlawing forest management, intentionally leaving the fire hydrants empty, shipping fire trucks to the Ukraine and the DEI mayor to Africa for a photo op. The difference being here is the dumb part imo - you can have zero debt and be doing well and still have a mediocre credit score if you simply don't participate or do arbitrary credit card pay off loops on every little nagging thing before they get any interest as well.

When I bought my first mobile phone, I had no credit history and I had to pay a security deposit equal to 12 months of billing fees. Later that day, Parent Pie and I commented half jokingly and half seriously that they probably wouldn't have required as large a security deposit from someone with poor credit.

This is why I prefer credit unions. You can negotiate with them and they can make exceptions in some cases because they know you. The big banks like BofA, Chase and Citi won't play at all and expect you to die in a bugman pod because you won't do the credit card song and dance like a wagie.

I had a payment to a big credit card company arrive one day late. They didn't care and hit me with with as much fees and interest as they could. It's part of the reason I argue large Corporate America is too impersonal and sees people as little more than dollar signs.

Meanwhile, the relative who goes to a credit union for smaller banking needs is recognized upon arrival and has little issues or drama taking care of business there.

Credit scores are not privacy friendly and are stupid. I use mine like Johnny Bravo but I should have the right to opt out of using credit cards, shun the banking system AND not be punished for it.

It sucks that the system wants to punish people willing and able to pay their expenses in cash and would rather people carry some amount of debt when zero is the true ideal.

It also doesn't help when the government wants to mass forgive debt and benefit those who made poor decisions while punishing those who properly managed their finances to pay down or pay off their debt completely.

This is not entirely true. If you have a lot of money with a major bank and a good credit score, they roll out the red carpet for you.

Can confirm because my bank proudly advertises its premium services for people with six figures in bank assets and it sends mailings out to people who don't even qualify - perhaps to rub it in their face on what they can't/won't have.

Then the FBI backtracked and said it was a terror attack, so I don't really believe them when they say the New Orleans attacker acted alone.

It's hard to trust anything coming from the government when government officials care more about their self image and self preservation than doing the right thing most of the time.

The cheapo eggs at my local stores have basically doubled in price over the last few months. And I don't live in a pricy area.

My part of Kiwiland recently signed a law that all eggs must come from cage-free chickens. In response, the grocery store pulled over half its egg supply in advance of the new rule taking place and what eggs were left after that cost considerably more. Someone is benefiting and its not the average shopper. Grocery prices have jumped so much in the past 2-plus years it's not funny.

My father-in-law died exactly three years ago, so he’s on my mind. But he spent a year or two of his Vietnam Army service in Century City getting certified as a Missileman (I found the cert in his files after he died), so the US has a history in Greenland already.

If I'm doing the math right, at about 60% of the human body consisting of water, an average weight of 150 pounds per illegal, and over 12 million illegals, we'd obtain about 400 acre-feet of water. Not bad at all, California could sure use some.
