Live updates: Brush fire burns in Pacific Palisades as Santa Ana winds blast Southern California - Live video at link

Stare into the Abyss long enough and it stares back. Once you start taking joy in others suffering, it is your impulses controlling you and sending you chemicals to feel satisfaction in your depravation. It is only a next step that you'll start lighting the fires yourself to get your kick, after all they aren't really people of value, right?
I don’t disagree with your sentiment right up until this point, but holy shit, this isn’t Reddit. Nobody is going to change their mind and give you upvotes because you moralize with snarky language.

At the very least, I can see Trump holding relief funding hostage unless Newsom's resigns and California immediately kills the environmental laws that caused the fire to happen, combined with FEMA being forced to retroactively provide 1:1 funds to everyone FEMA fucked over during Helene as compensation for how Biden punished them for the sin of being in red states.
It would be interesting to see him try to add conditions to the relief funding. Not sure if he could get away with it -- legally, or if the political capital exists to see him do so (when the media will 100% be playing the "think of the poor rich hollywood elites" card).

I wonder if they'll ram through whatever they can get away with before the 20th.

I see we've entered the "How can we attribute this to direct malice?" portion of the disaster movie. Anyone who's paid any attention is aware that SoCal burns every couple of years in dramatic fashion because of forestry mismanagement and population creep. Nothing about this is unusual except for the severity of the Santa Ana's coupled with the La Nina dry winter causing this year's burning to spiral out of control in more populated areas. Normally, air drops and working Hydrants are enough to keep the hill fires at bay while only losing a handful of structures. I can't say much about the management of city infrastructure, but the actual firefighters are highly skilled at fighting the hill fires at this point. Without the winds and infrastructure failures, this would have been a non-incident.
I just found it oddly suspicious that the fires didn't take out the Hollywood sign.

As for the people in this thread saying nothing will happen here? This shit is a Black Swan because it affected people with a lot of money. Heads will roll here once the fires stop.

Brick buildings are horrific at handling horizontal stress and will collapse. Guess what the US deals with even more than wild fires? Hurricanes, tornados, and earthquakes.
Just try imagining a high stacked pile of bricks and shaking the shit out of the bottom layers, sure the weight and structure might helps for a bit but that stress is going to build up and eventually its coming down.

Of course, I sit here thinking things like routine controlled burns would stop wildfires in CO, CA, Australia, etc. but it's probably not that simple. Still... there are a surprising amount of people who don't know that fire is a typical, expected occurrence in nature's life cycles, yet they profess having the stance of an environmentalist.

But, you know... Grrr, arrrgh. Fire bad.
The shitty part about said mindset, it stems from the borked media and education system. If you've seen an episode of China IL, the lessons the kids learn in schooling isn't far off from the dumb and insane version of what a lesson should be.

As a result, you effectively have a new generation of tards that are no different from religious fanatics. But instead of God, its a faggot in a dress getting blacked while a globohomo asshole beats themselves off on the sight.

Can't help but smile at the timing when my wife's DEI Instructor/Therapist friend from LA was just here visiting last weekend and said, "it's turning out that addressing trauma by causing more trauma might not have been the right thing to do". This fire has made me believe in a righteous force, that city has put forth more evil, hatred, and pain than any other but DC. Possibly more. They say thoughts and prayers are meaningless, so I send them nothing.

Disaster relief funding can be tied to conditions, like what things they may be used for.
For example emergency housing, infrastructure repair, firefighting equipment purchases etc.
As usual the grifter will try to steal as much as possible, as is the norm during any disaster.
It is pretty much a warzone and a free for all, once money is available to be claimed you will see droves of people try to claim money they do not deserve.

Much more important is what happens after this and if the privatized water industry is seized by the state and if they just let the burned down districts remain that way, or if the fed money will flow into rebuilding on the same moronic plots.

The policies that deal with the issue and prevent future repeats are what will be really interesting to see.

[EDIT] Poor grammar.

Did you know that stupid environmental activists are actually one of the leading reason the US has such a problem with invasive species? They're responsible for shit like the Green Crab epidemic, Lionfish epidemic, the ongoing problems with bamboo in New York, Eucalyptus in California, and more. It's specifically the stupid ones, the ones who have a child's understanding of the natural world, who think nature good, kill thing bad, free thing good, even if freed thing fucking ecologically devastates an entire region.

Anyone familiar with invasive species knows that any one of these is like a fucking micro-apocalypse for everything in that ecology, but some of the greatest evils in humanity's history have gone hand-in-hand with good intentions and nothing shows it quite like parts of the environmental movement. I can't for the life of me find them, but I remember one shithead journalist going on about how cool and awesome Lanternflies are, or how the Carp are our friends, and finding myself very disgusted with us a species.
And their retarded cousin-the tree huggers, are why places like fort mcmurray and Jasper saw great proportions of those towns burnt up, and likely why los angeles is an inferno. They get up in arms if a city wants to make a firebreak so it doesn't get burnt to a crisp or get mad when a city or state tries to do forestry management they don't like, and basically hamstrings local efforts to not have their properties not be a tinder-dry bonfire waiting to happen. Thats where brain dead government figures step in.

I learned a couple of interesting things about he LA fires
first off, their vital equipment was sent to ukraine.

Newsom stopped any extra water from coming in from the north that would've made this a non-issue, and used an extinct smelt as an excuse

I am an old school hippy and I love the planet, man. I HATE the modern environmental movements precisely because of this stuff. We focus solely on carbon dioxide and climate change and we pat ourselves on the back becasue we are ‘green’ while we sell off the water companies to massive corporations who then pay their directors millions while pumping raw fucking sewage into the rivers and seas we used to be able to wild swim in. We banned straws in places where everyone could bin or recycle them while Indonesia has entire beaches made of plastic and we allow them to just pollute with impunity. I’ve been on one of those wild Pacific island beaches that’s full of plastic. It made me feel a lot of things. None very good. See also India, and china, and most of the third world

If you have people and wildlife together it needs to be MANAGED and that’s best done with specialist local advice. The current environmental movement seems to see humans as ‘separate’ from the ecosystem. Now if you’ve got a pristine national park then our impact on it should be minimal, but for places people live in, you’ve got to do shit. Over in NZ they are still trying to get a handle on stuff caused by the PETA types deciding furry invasive possums shouldnt be killed. But those possums kill everything, and that kills the forests. There’s now one species of bird left that has a beak big enough to swallow the seeds of one type of tree and that’s how they are germinated . You must kill possums. You have to trap and kill them and the stoats etc. and the cats. I love cats, but there are places cats do a lot of damage.

It’s this weird idea that humans are always a negative, and that instead of the best balance, and different solutions for different places, we preserve one irrelevant type of fish instead of doing Ok by the fish but saving the water too. It drives me nuts. It’s so short sighted, so retarded a f it causes massive damage. We badly need to get environmentalism back to save the whales and ‘act local’ and away from ‘let the government repress you becasue CO2.’
Grr.

I don't think wishing peoples death and destruction of their property is a very good indicator of personality, or state of mind. But that's just an opinion of course not supported by any scientific research whatsoever. I heard somewhere upon the news of death and destruction a common reaction was to feel sorry for the victims rather than glee because they perceived the victims to have a point of view different to them (not that I am aware any KF actually knows a single victim or what they think).

I'm unsure that budgets actually prevent low humidity and whether or not it rains, but I could be wrong on that too. Perhaps budgets could prevent it raining on the coast and stop hurricanes also, I'll have to look into that deeper.

Imagine feeling glee as a neighbor loses their home, pets and possibly their life and livelihood because he didn't think like you. What a lovely neighbor you must be! It makes understanding why we saw some groups dancing with joy as people leapt to their death from the towers - not because they knew them, just because they were certain they mustn't think like them (without even knowing them) , and therefore, death was totally OK.

Stare into the Abyss long enough and it stares back. Once you start taking joy in others suffering, it is your impulses controlling you and sending you chemicals to feel satisfaction in your depravation. Good to see you're still seething at the fact that people on the right side of the political spectrum have begun to learn that turning the other cheek is a losing strategy.

One that went extinct due to invasive species and the fucking Almond Farms.
You know, because fuck common sense.

Your facts on the situation are completely correct, but your analysis is wrong because it fails to account for two things:
1) It is still legal to buy rope in California.
2) The political aparatus that fucks the state still exists.

Don't forget that Californians voted against fag marriage by a good margin, the elected officials said "no fuck that normalize faggotry", and yet not a single lamppost was decorated.

There is in-n-out in Austin. There also also homeless camping and taking over downtown sidewalks & stealing packages. Its a literal california colony.

It's my nature to spare a thought for those who genuinely didn't do anything wrong and still got caught in the crossfire, but lord knows, the retards who helped Newsom get re-elected after his successful recall sorely test that aspect of myself.

You're not wrong.

Have any of the fire maps been updated? I checked before bed last night and looked again this morning and the updates havent been pushed through (can't really blame them). Can someone post a link, instead of posting page after page of YAY CALIFORNIA BURNS or HOW DARE YOU THERE ARE PEOPLE THERE
Been trying to figure out what's going on with Eaton as nothing seemed to be changing - Eaton Fire is being managed by Los Angeles County Fire Department primarily + Pasadena Fire and US Forest Service. Not CalFire. So the numbers and maps for that one aren't being updated with same frequency and seem less reliable. If I had to guess they don't have people on staff whose job it is to update and publicize these figures in the same way that CalFire does.

The shifty fucks the run California will have no problems finding loopholes or other ways to waste that money. FEMA should declare it a disaster zone and seize the burned land and put it under federal control. If California is too retarded to manage their own shit and stop it from causing billion dollars in damages, then they can have it taken away from them. I think eminent domain is one of the most evil things the government can do, but for California I'm willing to make an exception.
