Honestly surprised people are still relatively close to the fires, expecting nothing to happen to them.

Personally? If I'm half an hour away from the current fire (3 miles in SoCal traffic), my happy ass is loading up the car and heading to a hotel an hour or two away BEFORE everyone else is waiting for the already inept government to tell them when to leave.
