There is more historical evidence that Yasuke was a decorated samurai than there is that a single female ninja existed. So again, DSP is correct and he was being generous when he said there were "maybe 2 if that."

It’s not about assassins creed not being able to be historically accurate, it’s that they clearly are telling fiction within history.
To be fair, people in the fandom have long been asking for some kinda shake up to the formula, and people wanting to actually be able to play as historical figures hasn’t been an uncommon ask. Plus, they still went with making the actual assassin in the game a made up character

I was under the impression you had to play as both characters, you don't just choose one, it swaps back and forth. Yasuke is more of a bruiser and the ninja is all stealth. If I never had to play as Yasuke I would be fine with it, I don't give a fuck about playing as a woman.
I honestly haven't kept up on it since I aint getting it but the last thing I heard on it was you can pick which character you want for the majority of the game. There will surely be forced segments for story purposes, but it sounded like the large chunk of the game will be left up to the player.
yasuke as a character is a little weird, but the bruiser character makes a bit more sense. I think they clearly knew people wanted to play as a samurai in the japan focused game, but wouldn't be able to make it work with the assassin and stealth focus. Two characters who fit the stealth and samurai style is actually a pretty smart way to have your cake and eat it too.
